Yet another example of a UA-camr making excellent video essays and not getting enough views! Keep up the great work. Thank you for this informative and enjoyable video :)

I love Preston Sturges. My favorite film is unfaithfully yours what is very underrated compared to his other films. But the entire concept and idea behind that movie is so genius. And to my amazement never tried ever since. To base a script entirely on a piece of music. And it is amazingly executed.

I love his movies, films nowadays need Preston Sturges' premise of dialogue and language more than ever.

hello to the whole equation. thanks for the great write-up and all the research on my father, his writing and film making. you are absolutely correct about the hook system, which he used with much success. and there are many moments in coen bros films that honor him as well, as you correctly note. i think he would have greatly enjoyed knowing that his art has continued to connect with generations that arrived long after he passed. thanks again. ts

Thanks Tom, this comment means a lot to me. This video, more than any other I have made, was a labour of love. The ideas in this video were ones that I'd had in my head for years and it was nice to get them down. I think your father is comfortably the greatest comedy director and writer of the period, as well as one of the most original screenwriters of all time. I hope I've played a small part in getting a few people to rediscover his films.

@@TheWholeEquation there's a new book coming out on ps. it's called CROOKED BUT NEVER COMMON - THE FILMS OF PS. written by a pal Stuart Klawans, will be pub'd by columbia press. you can start talking about it and be the first one on your block to do so. i've read it and it's kinda brilliant, and the 27th book about ps, which in itself must be some kind of record. btw i have no connection or ownership, just a great book and i thought i would mention.

@@tomsturges8034 I'll definitely check that out, Klawans is a smart writer. My fave book aside from the autobiography is the Pirolini book which I read for the first time while making the video. I guess you know but it also has a nice interview with Sandy in the appenix.

The Ratziwatzi-Kockkkk-nlockkker wedding scene dialogue in The Miracle of Morgan’s Creek is probably the funniest of all Sturges movies 🍿 ( to me). Betty Hutton is so fab. ❤️❤️❤️

Who is this by? Some speech patterns remind me of a brilliant English author, poet, and art critic whose name is on the tip of my tongue. I hope it pops back into my head, @mxp5525.

love the content and the subject but pwease work hawdew to wooze the awistocwatic Bwitish pwonunciation of your "R"s which, to these 'merkin ears, distracts from your worthy insights. Ironically Mr. Sturges would likely have had a field day with this diction pitfall (he might well have dug Michael Palin's Monty Python comic take had he lived longer), but you'll hear no trace of this affectation emanating from the memorable mouths of Eric Bloore or Robert Greig 85 years ago, even when the Windsors had only relatively recently changed the family name. Then again, if we preserve the royal kowtow imperative, there's Barthelonan Ethpañol fwiw...just sayin'!

Thanks. Delightful. Will someone today make films in the Sturgis style, with wit and humor and playfulness? Doubtful. Not in this age of political correctness. Every special-interest group poked fun at would howl their objections. Unless of course, someone would make a film set in a faculty lounge and cut their pretensions and theories to shreds. And of course, with a little sex -).
