In my personal opinion Timothy Leary was one of the absolute worst influences on the psychedelic community, to this day society misunderstands these substances and I think part of it roots back to the Tune in, drop out life style he promoted, Making LSD seem like the pinnacle psychedelic experience when in reality it’s piddly winks compared to DMT… I’m not surprised a great deceiver like Leary wasn’t fond of the substance we call the God Molecule, for good reason
i think you're too harsh on both Leary and LSD here. LSD is one of the most profound and powerful psychedelic experiences known to us, and the trip itself lasts all day & night...we feel permanently affected by it in some way. Sure, DMT is a different beast altogether...a Supernova to acid's forming of star systems...both are heavy. And Leary added cultural significance to acid. Most of the now-legendary rock music of the late-60's and early-70's was directly or indirectly influenced by his acid-promoting. If it wasn't for Leary, we may never have had recreational LSD being a thing at all. No Goa Trance/Psy Trance scene either.
Did Douglas Rushkoff ever take DMT?
