As an amateur photographer, I'd be really interested in your recommendations on photography books! Either technical or photography-themed in terms of novels or fiction. :)
It's such a long time since I read anything in those categories (I graduated in 2014) but if I ever think of any particular books, I'll let you know for sure. I read a lot of art theory in college, which honestly isn't something I'm overly interested in anymore. Nowadays I mostly enjoy browsing through photobooks by my favourite photographers (Nan Goldin, Sally Mann, Diane Arbus, Elliott Erwitt, William Eggleston), but also just photobooks in general ☺️
I bought my Dad the first farseer book for his birthday in May, and he’s already finished the three trilogy’s you mentioned! I’m well behind 😂 He absolutely loved them, I’m looking forward to catching up ✨ 💃
I am super excited to hear about your experience with Our Share of Night. This is my goodreads review, no spoilers😊: I adore the author's confident and competent writing, the historical and political themes that this book is based on and the structure of it (different timelines and POV). It discusses class, music, poetry and family dynamics, especially children's experiences in dysfunctional families. Although there is lots of sadness, violence and unhappiness, the tone never gets flippant or dramatic. The characters are fully developed and there is a strong sense of place. In no instance did I feel that the author used horror as a plot device, which I find very positiv. Towards the end of the book, I started reading in smaller sections so that I was able to enjoy it longer.
Thanks for your review. It does make me feel really eager to pick it up. I've been hearing nothing but good things about it. I'm hoping to pick it up in October ☺️
The European cover of Monstrilio is freaking incredible. I love it and i think i need it lol. I hope you love it!! It was one of my faves from last year. Im so intrigued by our share of night. Ive owned it for awhile, but the chunkiness intimidates me so much 🤭
I didn’t really like the cover when I saw it first, but now that I’ve read the book, I get it. It’s perfect 😂 I’m adamant that I’m going to read it in October. People speak so highly of it ☺️💛
ahhh I hope you like A Far Wilder Magic! It's v Fullmetal Alchemist coded and I loved it. I'm intrigued to hear your thoughts on Winter of the Witch as I didn't love how things wrapped up. 💫
I'm absolutely obsessed and they're pretty much all I want to read all the time, but I still have other books on my shelves that need to be read too. I hope you're enjoying them too ☺️
I am really excited to have found your book account here. I have watched a few videos and I'm board with your opinions on books i've read so super pumped to read your recommendations. I have added you to my Goodreads too~! Let's be friends : ' ) Thanks to books for bringing us all in the community together!
Happy (late) birthday! 🎈 funny, I have also gotten 16 books this year 😅 looking forward to hearing about your experience with Monstrilio and Enriquez as I am also intrigued by those 😊
Thank you so much! That is quite funny, isn't it? I hope you're doing a bit better at reading the books you buy than I am. I've already finished Monstrilio which I enjoyed but I think my expectations for it might have been a little too high. I think I'll read Our Share of Night in October ☺️
@@aiscahill I am reading at least 1-2 books from my tbr every month. And whenever I feel like reading something that I don’t own, I borrow it from my library if they have it :) I am a big mood reader and if I don’t follow my reading mood I just don’t read 😅
@@Bonitolibro It sounds like you’re doing really well in that case. I understand your issues with mood reading. I’m very similar. I don’t often speak about books that I don’t finish on here because I don’t like to speak badly about books on a public forum when often our reading experiences are so subjective, but my mood has been responsible for me not finishing or donating quite a few books so far this year 😅
Hi Aisling 😊 I have actually just finished If Beale Street Could talk and started The Ministry of Time (both from the library - we really do have such a brilliant system here). Katherine Arden is one of my favourite writers, if not my favourite. I just love the Winternight Trilogy, and I reread it this year before reading her newest The Warm Hands of Ghosts, which I absolutely loved as well. Yay! The Count of Monte Cristo. Love it so much. If you're into audiobooks, or listening and reading together, there's a free version on an app called Librivox, which is read by a man named David Clarke. That was how I first read it, and I loved that experience so much. I have the same copy as you now, but when I reread it, I will be listening to him as well. I really want to read Hagstone. I'm waiting on a copy from the library. I'm so intrigued by Chess. I've read the Post Office Girl by Zweig, and it was very good. I love how eclectic your reading taste is. Looking forward to your thoughts on your August reads 😊😊😊
Hi Katie ☺️ I hope you enjoyed both Beale Street and Ministry of Time. I have The Warm Hands of Ghosts on my Kindle and only the other day felt very tempted to pick it up but ended up starting a book on my physical TBR instead. Thanks so much for the tip about The Count of Monte Cristo. I struggle to listen to longer books but I think it might be really helpful to read and listen at the same time. I hope you really enjoy Hagstone when you get your hands on it. Fingers crossed the wait isn't too long 🤞🏻 Chess was excellent! I hadn't heard of The Post Office Girl but I'll look it up for sure. I love reading different genres and even dipping my toes into genres I'm largely uncomfortable with. So many great books out there waiting to be read ☺️
@@aiscahill Hi! Beale Street was very good. He's such a good writer. That was my first by him, and definitely want to read more. Finish Winternight and then go to Ghosts. It's not that it's better than Winternight, but there is a sort of leap in her style and ideas. She found it very hard to write, and wrestled with it for a long time, but I think it's a masterpiece. I'll be very interested in your thoughts on it ☺ Cristo was the first audiobook I ever listened to and I couldn't wait to get back to it. Clarke's narration was just so good. He made the story like a friend! Bumping Chess up my TBR pile ☺ The list is pretty long for Hagstone, but I've plenty to be getting on with. I am enjoying Ministry of Time. Getting very intrigued about what's really going on!
@@katie.is.dreaming I read Giovanni’s Room last year and it was one of my favourite reads of the year. He’s an author I’ll happily continue to explore a lot more ☺️ Thanks for the Katherine Arden tip! I really know very little about Ghosts but I feel like anything I’ve heard has been very positive. That’s such an excellent experience to have had as your first time with an audiobook. It took me such a long time to really settle into them. Chess is such a quick read too. I finished it in about a day. I understand why so many people just don’t enjoy Ministry of Time but I was pleased to find that I really enjoyed my time with it. I hope you’re having a similar time with it too ☺️
@@aiscahill I think Giovanni's Room will be the next Baldwin I read. I am really enjoying The Ministry of Time. I haven't got too much left to read. The way it connects the narrator's position as a mixed-race woman with the 'expats' out-of-time-ness is really interesting, and I think there's a lot about needing to feel like she belongs in there. I think maybe people are expecting more of a sci-fi book with it, but it's really much more speculative and literary. Going to look for a copy of Chess soon ☺ I have so many books to read!
Have you ever heard of pat o’ shea’s fantasy books? I bought one second hand but I don’t know anything… anyone knows this author and the works? Would you recommend?
I actually haven't read any Pat O' Shea. I've heard of The Hounds of Morrigan but know next to nothing about it. I'm curious to hear how your book goes for you if you get around to reading it ☺️
