My dog finally felt brave enough to go outside yesterday afternoon. When he didn't come back for the longest time I went outside to look for him. At first I saw nothing but white and then I saw a black blob slowly emerging which looked a lot like this weatherman coming into focus.

Not to shit on you or anything, but until this is over you really shouldn't leave your animal unintended outside. My dog loves winter and he made it like three minutes before he was over it and we turned back to the house.

Could just as easily be in a front yard that they think the dog knows & doesn't venture beyond or whatever. I mean you might be right, but in those conditions, even a fenced in yard is way too dangerous imo!

Why dont we send a reporter in the middle of that storm so that he or she van freeze his of het nose or ears off? Not that uncommon to have a random day of light snow (that melts as soon as the sun comes out), but this year there's been weeks of it! The ski resorts are all blanketed with it, looking like it's winter, despite being the middle of summer!
To be fair, it started warming up about 3 days ago, so stopped snowing & I think it's all probably melted now, but yeh, it was snowing repeatedly the first few weeks of December in 3 states of Australia

Welcome to Wyoming! It gets like that along I-25 and I-80 multiple times every winter but no major news agency covers it because of the low population. And the interstate highways often stay open with 65 to 75 mph wind gusts.

If it's like that every year, you really shouldn't need to close it, just put permanent signs on it warning of the dangers & maybe a wind thingy too. There's a bridge not that far from me that has one of those wind thingies with the hoop & then the tail that flies when winds are really strong & also shows what direction the wind is coming from, cause that bridge gets bad winds, while obviously that would be hard to see in your current conditions, that alone should alert people to the danger so they can drive safely without a need to close the road to everyone when it's not needed

Seriously, if it's regular, people should be capable of using common sense & understanding if & when it's safe to drive or not & if they have to for whatever reason, to know how to do it safely. If they've run out of supplies or something, presumably it's better for them to drive than walk to help & they should be able to crawl along at walking speed in their vehicle, so if they hit another, it doesn't really do damage, or at least not more damage than would happen to their body trying to walk unprotected in that

I love winter, but this isn't it. There is no driving. Because we've been under a travel ban since yesterday morning. We got buried under several feet of snow, which is whatever. But the wind whips jt painfully into your face if you have to go out in it, leaving you soaked when you walk indoors and it instantly melts. My dog can't have walks. We could barely get the door open to go outside. Unfortunately, my animals also don't have food. Because the driving ban stopped it from being dropped off. So now, as prepared as I thought I was, my food is feeding three mouths instead of one. I literally can't walk to the store to get anything for any of us, because there are several feet of snow covering the city streets and sidewalks.
Don't make this blizzard sound fun. It's not.

That 3 weeks should include water too, cause food's bad, but if the pipes freeze, you'll be in even more of a mess! You might want to address the water storage now, while you look for things to do instead of going to the store. Find containers & fill them with water & find space where you can make that a permenent thing, along with the food

Left the house here in Colorado yesterday around 3pm for a 10 minute errand- to get booze (just in case)- and the temp was 40 so I had a light jacket. When I got home the temp was 10 freaking degrees! Thirty degrees in 10 minutes! Talk about bad timing, I froze my tookus off. Good thing I had booze...new record for the state btw. For temp drop over time, not the booze thing.
