    For the price to features ratio, it's one of the best QRP money can buy.

    Great camera work and excelent audio sir. This LDG looks like a nice little tuner. I might consider it for my FT-818. Thanks for the demonstration video. 73

    Great video, I love it, it is well explained. This tuner does a great job, I tried it with an open wire line 450 ohms
    to an very long inverted vee,and I was able to use all bands from 160 up to 6 meters, with swr 1 to 1 , except it never worked on 30 meters.
    I investigate with numerous tests, and it was because my 42 feet 450 ohms line was interfering because it resonnate
    on 30 meters, So I added a couple of feet of line with a joint, and Bingo 30 meters was loading flawlessly. and the fact
    the added piece of 450 ohms did nmot interfere all the other bands.
    It is a real keeper, Thanks again for the nice demo.

    Hi Denis. Great sounding station there. And WOW, the station on the other end sounds amazing. He must be running a good station there to be able to hear you with the low power. LoL Your portable setup sounded great. I see in the comments below that you were actually running on the low power output setting. Less than 1 watt, so they say. Cheers and 73 from Bob VY2NX in Prince Edward Island.

    Great video- but it would have been nice had you provided links to all your equipment such as tripod, whip extension, etc. your video is not only educational but it gets a ham radio individual interested in replicating your setup. Hard to do that when the information is not readily available. Great video though.

    In regards to the finals, it's suggested that you turn the power down to minimum or at least mid power, when using the auto tuner with the FT-817. I've also heard that the tuner does it automatically ? Manual tuners are safer for the 817's finals.

    I recently picked up the LDG IT-100 for my portable setup. Seems to work well.
    I've used the telescopic vertical for a few years, MFJ-2286 with tapped coil. Mounted at ground level with only eight radials it does a surprisingly good job, even on 40 and 60m, no tuner.
    Good job Denis. Keep having fun!

    Yet another excellent review video. Question...does the tuner get power from the radio or does it have internal batteries? If it gets power from the radio do you know the consumption? It will only take power during the tune function but if you are on a battery for the weekend......

    • @VE3BF
      @VE3BF  6 років тому

      Hi Barry, I did forget to mention that in the video. The tuner has 4 AA batteries inside, LDG says that they will last about 1 year in regular usage. 73 Denis

    Nice demo with the QRP TxRx and tuner. I am surprised that your telescopic mast plus the earthing to the truck gives you the necessary grounding for a match. Well done though. 73 de John - G0WXU.

    i bought one of those stands from a music web site. now they will not leave me alone, trying to get me to buy music stuff. great stand modded it to hold more weight on the bottom. just in-case a wind wants to blow it over.

    Pardon my ignorance, but what is the purpose of the den plug wire? I have the tuner but no wire connection like yours. Can you purchase the wire separately? Thank you for your kindness and patience.

      In most portable set ups yes it is daisy chained not the best but better than none.

    I know that your screen is not flashing HISWR but how do you know that it is a 1:1 match , you do not have the SWR meter feature in the menu enabled ? thanks , nice video ..

    • @buckeye5704
      @buckeye5704 5 років тому +2

      SWR displayed as "SWR" with bars lower left of the display while the tuner was tuning. When the tuner went green the match was done and the SWR display went away. If it ended up higher than 1:1 it would have still showed a bar or so.

    In the video you state that you are operating at 5W, but the FT-817 power icon wasn't blinking, so I think you were really running at the next lowest power setting (2W?). Does that sound right? Thanks for this.

      L III on the display is less than 1 watt I believe... Not sure if the operator is aware he is lowest power possible.

    • @daveve9cb396
      @daveve9cb396 4 роки тому

      I also have an FT-817. When the supply voltage drops below 12Vdc, the transceiver automatically reduces power to 2.5w. That is what the "L" on the display means. It's a way of extending battery life.

    Id rather stick with manual tuners. You will blow your finals someday, you can clearly see that during the tuning phase the SWR peaks out to the max on the input of the station.. Thats not good.
