"I want to play retro games on it!" (walks away with a modern gaming rig) Mission failed successfully
that thing will be an emulation powerhouse
It'll be all right. It'll play retro games just fine, and there are a lot of modern games with a retro feel that actually have a ton of graphical features that can be unlocked. I was really surprised at how much new detail and animation was added to Hades when I got my 3060 (ty newegg shuffle), and while I haven't played it yet, the Diablo II remake is another obvious case.
I'm pretty sure he meant retro PC games, which are actually really hard to get compatible with modern devices. My Sims 1 cannot run whatsoever on my Windows 10, and other games like Fallout 1&2 and some others have messed up colors when running on modern video cards.
@@ZombieRonSwanson yeah, just needs a CRT...
maybe a hdmi to vga adaptor and bam, perfect retro emu station.
@@mintagenart Ah, that's unfortunate. In case where compatibility mode fails, you'll probably have to install an older Windows into a virtual machine, which could take a little work to get going just right. Or you could give DosBox a try, some (most?) of the Win95/98 era games could simply be launched from the DOS command line.
Imagine, you're working on a school project and you go to your local micro center to find the perfect Windows 2000 - XP era machine to do your project on, and then LTT comes along and ruins this amazing find. How awful, I feel so bad for them, being tricked like that. :(
yeah. I wish I was in their position instead so that they don't have to suffer.
@@bassagent97 😂
hopefully that doesnt happen to me
You know what? I'll buy that PC from them for 50$, and -use- I mean dispose of it...

"I have a won but at what cost"
(Maybe 20$)
"You don't always wanna build your own PC."
Yes, especially in times when one RTX3070 costs as much as pre-build setup with RTX3070. This is insane...
Pre-build RTX3070 uses the worst components in the card. so it will overheat, loud fan noise and short life span.
@@kelvinkms3671 buy a warranty pretty simple
I had to buy a pre-built pc with rtx 3060 for 1200 euros cuz there were none in my country at the time and it would cost over 1k to get it here. I've used my pc for 5 months now I think. It works great and doesn't overheat cuz lenovo built it. If you buy pre-built, buy Lenovo pcs, I tried Acer's one and the cpu overheated to 100 degrees even on simple tasks.
@@kelvinkms3671 They use the same cards. Other distributors like MSI, Asus, Gigabyte, EVGA, etc. usually put better cooling on them which allows for better overclocking and performance overall.
But the core of the card is the same if you buy Alienware desktop, get it directly from Nvidia or from EVGA. It's just that lower temperature = longer lifespan.
It's not like a card in HP desktop will last two years instead of five if bought separately. It might just perform slightly worse because of the cooling and temps it's running on (which also depends on how well you build your PC yourself), it may get slightly shorter lifespan but not that much shorter that it's worth paying double for the same specs. I'll gladly sacrifice 3 months out of 72 if I save 1000+ euros. Plus there's the option of extended warranty.
@@Daniel-ss5tg I have had an Acer pre-built PC since December of last year and I have never had a single problem with it.
On another note. Whoever is in charge of marketing at Microcenter / be it at a senior level or entry level... They need acknowledgement here. THIS type of content is going to keep them ahead and not fall to extinction like Circuit City. They clearly had a vision that they needed to have a broader spectrum in terms of audience /customer reach vs the emails and ad papers they send out.
So if you're seeing this...good job. (Seriously)
the free ssd thing is dope too lol
The employees there are also pretty knowledgeable, at least much more than say Best Buy employees lol.
Micro Center basically never advertised before and this is the smart way to do it.

His excitement was just through the roof because he realized how much money he could make off of it.
I had one of those compaqs and always absolutely loved the weird design, they´re built pretty though too, easily double the thickness of the sheet metal of any modern case.
I always dreamed with making a sick Sleeper inside one of these. This was the weirdest drive through memory lane.
You guys are absolutely amazing.
This is insane. I just picked up a Compaq Presario case and was looking into doing the same exact sleeper build. So funny that you guys did the exact same thing. I have only seen one other modern build in this case before. Glad you guys did this video!
It's nice to see that at least one company is still able to make it with a physical store. I always liked being able to see a product in front of me and get a sense of size, weight, functionality, etc.
Currently, I do (nearly) all my tech buying online and I miss the hand-on pre-buy experience.
Plus, it’s harder to scalp irl items… the first time I went to a microcenter I bought a 30 series card, after like 6 months trying to get one online
If you genuinely like physical stores, then it's very unfair to use them as a showroom so that you just end up buying on Amazon. If you go there you should also buy your parts there.
@@AlohaBiatchI think you implied something that I didn't say. I don't use a physical store as just a way to decide what I'm going to buy online. The reason I do most of my buying online is because there's only 1 physical store in my geographical area and they don't carry most of what I buy. When I do go there for what they do carry, I buy it there.
@@ALaModePi I'm not accusing you at all. I'm just saying a lot of people seem to have no qualms with using stores as a showroom just to end up buying online.
Good on you if you actually buy at the stores when you visit!

That guy totally knew what was going on though.
Idk if he was told to pick that one by LTT for the video; or if he managed to see the LTT crew and knew what was going on, so he waited for them to put it on the shelf.
But he 100% knew what was going on.
@@TheTechAdmin That's the question, what if they did not put it on the shelf and took it home?
@@TheTechAdmin na, somebody working on that shop told a family member or friend this would be happening and went to buy it dirty cheap, hopefully they do use it and not resell it
I work at an electronics store in Iceland and we have a sample of all of our 3d printers set up in store and they're usually all printing something (often just something for our nerdy staff) and the customers love it! It's a great conversation starter for us to any customer who might be interested in buying one.
The best PC case I owned from a prebuilt back in the day was from a Gateway GM-5420. I still think that case is dope. It also had a hidden compartment under the front bottom panel if you moved a lockarm over also hidden on the bottom underneath. It came with an Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86GHz and 2GB RAM. and a Bazooka style cpu cooler. Straight out the side panel. That pc was actually really good with the upgraded 8GB RAM and GTX 560ti 2GB
I had that exact same compaq - good memories - putting the "Speed Hole" in the CD Holder was a great touch.
same here. I used to play quake and unreal on that thing lmao.
For real, this was my first PC back in the day. Still remember upgrading the GPU and RAM in that thing.

Sadly, for me, this is just a dream. I'll never have a micro center near me. So, not really an ad for me. The new store looks pretty sweet, though.
@@Zdman2001 Imagine being from Europe lol
And they all lap it up. Being in the UK be like *cricket noises*
I was planning to return into the shop manager simulator or how the game is called. This is actaully a good reference video if I want to "relieve" the experience on my own.
imagine thinking this is an 11 minute commercial for micro center and not a cool sleeper build video that was sponsored by micro center
The 3d printer section is great they are always printing stuff, and have color sample prints with the filaments so you can also see how it looks printed.
This makes the kid in me happy. We had that same type of Compaq PC when I was younger...lots of memories of Diablo, RCT, Starcraft, and more made with that baby. Now it has returned to game once more
This is a nice transition for Micro Center, making sure they carry somewhat niche items like 3d printer supplies (and actual printers I assume) and Rasberry Pi parts. I wonder if they also let you bring in your own 3d design and 3d print things in the store. Good way to compete with online stores.
I like that idea for 3d printing. Would be a good way for newbies to pick up good advice before blowing a stack of cash on their own printer.
Would have to limit it to simpler designs, 3d printing can take hours/days. But really neat idea.
They don’t do that for the prints, it’s a pretty hands off display. Too many customers running the 3D printers with sticky fingers
This video gives me so much nostalgia. I live in a 1000 souls village in Germany and somehow the biggest computer store chain had it's warehouse just a few kilometers away from my house and it looked exactly like Micro Center. I remember going there with my father to build my first PC for 300€ in 2008 or something, which could barely run Half Life 2. Unfortunately they went bankrupt and now there is no alternative in all Germany except for some retailers in big cities.
I hope Micro Center goes international in the future!
Fühl ich
Schöne Geschichte! Hoffe in ca. 10 Jahren kann ich mit meinem Kurzen auch den ersten PC zusammenstellen :D
yea, their sales would skyrocket if they go international.
Yes! I have a microcenter kinda local to me and it's come in clutch so many times. I try to buy any hardware there and they price match!
Brick and mortar store with PC components is actually huge. You can check first, no need to wait for delivery/returns and you can see things with your own eyes and touch first.
Pretty cool place!
One of these days, I'd like to see a sleeper build that keeps the optical and floppy drive usable. You should still be able to connect a SATA optical drive, and if you want to use an older one, you can use IDE/Floppy-to-USB adapters and connect them to internal USB headers.
I wouldn't mind tossing a sleeper PC into something like the old Dell Optiplex small form factor cases that open like a car hood. AKA one of those Old Optiplex NX1 cases for example. Or if you need more room theres always the larger/taller GX1
yeah I'm not a massive fan of them chopping up old cases
Yeah, for some reason that really bugged me how they didn't keep the drives in there or at least replace the old optical drive with a blu-ray drive.
I have this exact case. Although still with the original hardware and windows 98 inside of it. Was really sad to see they took away the built in CD holder for a speed hole. Though it might have been necessary, still sad to see it
Would it then be called a half asleep pc
Could you imagine someone looking at that thinking they've found the perfect retro PC to install DOS or W95 on for some vintage games
Lol maybe with dosbox or sumn
"Why is glQuake running at 2000 FPS?"
The first sleeper PC I built was in one of these cases! I think I still have it somewhere. It had an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ @3.0ghz with 8GB of screamin fast DDR2. It may not sound impressive now but was and is light years ahead in usability compared to the late 90s Celeron the case came with. Also toped out at 256MB RAM! lol If you're concerned about what happened to the Celly it became a file server attached to a wall. Waste not want not
Seeing the 1st PC I ever had become something great, my childhood heart couldn't be happier to see it all grown up

You people should do way more of this! Thanks for doing it at least this one time. Computers will raise the intellect of our human race, after all.
I was upgrading Athlon XP CPUs in a case like this. I worked for Compaq repair. They no joke would put tape above the CPU cooler. That way after the warranty ran out, the tape would fall off and overheat the AMD. That was back before they used CPU Protection on motherboards. I probably worked on thousands of that same computer case case model. It was a junk case back then.
I love how the GPU cases are always stocked for the videos and then when you go there... gone. Not Micro Center's fault, but I'd like a more realistic idea of what to expect. You know... empty shelves with a few $2,000 cards stuck in there for good measure.

Huh, thanks, nice tip
Lemtil tech tips, I am a fan of that.
Wow, that case is of an era when Compaq computers were actually really good, before they were destroyed by HP.
Yeah I haven't found any nice compaqs yet, but i did get a really rusty one with a 775 pentium 4 that ran XP. That was an interesting pc but it was cool.
I don't recall Compaq ever really being good but much like Gateway they offered decent bang for the buck if you were just buying a cheap PC to get on the web and do general desktop publishing/office work. The ones near the end before they were bought out were well entwined in the race to the bottom in price/performance at the cost of upgradability and quality.
That's an HP era case actually.

That is a cool idea that they just did. This would be a cool random thing to do every now and then and try to better the whole idea every time they do it! Like instead of the handwritten paper make it look like a real thing or sale tag to hide it better! It could be the LTT Lottery game! =)
they often work with micocenter.
They did that once and I think it sold for $20 or something. The girl who bought it was shoppinh for a birthday gift for her little brother.
@@user-ex9ti7ds3m Yeah but it wasn't a sleeper, it was literally a $20 gaming pc with RGB and everything
This case brings back so many memories. My first home PC was this exact PC, a Compaq Presario 5000.
Freaking amazing! That was the first PC we got at home 👍🏻 God damn! Thanks for the memories.
That guy was about ready to do a magical girl transformation out of excitement, but held his cool. Props to him!
My dad used to frequent the first Microcenter in Columbus and even had the opportunity to invest. The founders were such good guys, no idea if they're still around.
This brought back fond memories. Back in the day, I had one of the turquoise Presarios. Was a great machine for the time.
I loved my Presarios - I hope this doesnt push the price up because I have been wanting to get another one.
Man I wish I had a micro center that looks amazing!!!
Omg that store looks like heaven! Here we cant even try out mouse, keyboards, headsetts watever. A store like that where u can see the cases and monitors and everything. Omg. Could walk around there a whole day.
All of my future PC builds are now going to require a "speed hole" in their design. Want to play a hot game? Engage the SPEED HOLE! 😎
As Craig Ferguson would say, "Sounds like a party at Elton John's house."
69 likes............. *NICE*
@@jewhittamore "Awkward pause." 😉
This is a Simpsons reference to homer adding speed holes to his hood.
@@Intentful Oh, thanks for pointing that out! 😎
Watching this has made me really sad that we don't have anything like that in the UK. A store like that is heaven and I want in.
I can confirm lol
I wish we have ANYTHING even a quarter the size of this.
Curry's PC World still burdens me with that distrusted name, claiming its a PC World only to end up being another generic electronic store.
@@acoolrocket they sell fridges more than anything 😂
Yeah the closest we have is probably the Scan store in Bolton. OCUK might have one somewhere too.
That Micro Center is a paradise place for me, so sad that there is no such place here in Belgium, again a very good and funny video, keep going guys you're doing a great job!
What a throw-back! That Compaq was my first PC, running Windows ME 🤢
Wish I had kept the case to do a similar stealth build.
Ugh, Windows ME brings back nightmares! That was the least stable & least reliable OS Microsoft ever released; would barely run 24 hours before locking up, freezing, BSoD, or crashing. Reformatted many friends' and colleagues' PCs to Windows 2000 (some of them having problems straight out of the box) before XP thankfully came along.
Standing in front of bathroom: This is one area that I'm *super* stoked about and that I've never seen in a physical store before
Same thoughts.
Those zalman copper flower coolers used to be some of the best you could get. I'll bet it's still pretty decent.
Pure copper. I was hoping he would pick it
I wanna build the dream build I never go to do back in the day with one. Core ii duo, 7800gtx, max out the 32 bit ram limit.
i have a few of those from when they where first introduced.
you do have to be careful with them them, the fins are rather sharp.
they are still really good, I use one every day in my new build
End of march 2024 and I am using a Zelman cnps9700 super flower cooler in my retro build. It works surprisingly well.
My first ever computer when I was a kid was in that case... this brings back AOL dial up memories....
Well, thanks for the flashback!! Got a chill the second I saw that Compaq case in the thumbnail.... first week of my second IT job I had back in 02 a customer brought a rig with that case design.... took it off the rack to start work on it, placed it on the workbench then went to retrieve the paperwork. The bottom of the front bezel is sloped... the ends of the workbenches were sloped. I grabbed the paperwork and turned around in time to see the client's computer do a front flip off the table... replaced the case and everything worked but it was an awkward phone call to the client.
Don't leave that case near a ledge :)
Entire sponsored video: "Look how awesome Micro Center is!"
Me, "tech capital of the world" SF Bay area, having just lost Fry's and now having nothing but Best Buy and Central Computers: *cries*
Yeah, my hometown had two Fry's within a reasonable distance, and now the nearest Micro Center is a good 6 hour drive away.
To add insult to injury the Bay Area used to have a Micro Center as well
Thankfully here in Dallas we have a Micro Center right down the road... We lost 2 or 3 Frys locations as well. Used to love going into Frys, but I could see how downhill it was going.
That old Compaq case brings back memories as my first computer was an Intel Celeron in that exact case.
I love seeing stuff like this ! Yeeeee! I wonder how long the pump will last on the aio like that. The pump should always be lower or equal to to the rad.
the pump is in the rad
Person: (literally just joins microcenter)
Microcenter: "can i offer you a free SSD in this trying time?"
that free ssd is better than what i currently have :(
there SSD's are pretty good. no cache or dram but if you just need to upgrade a platter... they are better than any other brand out there for price and performance. ive been very happy with them in work stations
I have their store brand nvme 1tb, works great, haven't had any issues out of it
What's hilarious is I showed my local microcenter this stores pricing in videos like yours and they argued with me that the MSRP priced GPUs on the shelf at that store were not real and that their heavily inflated "MSRP" pricing was real.
Weird how two stores owned by the same company can sell a 3080Ti for $1199 in one store, in a state known for being overpriced, and then in the other stores that exact same card is $1799. Exact same sku. Then they wonder why they can't actually sell any of them. Wild.
Call corporate about that
@@the_retag For sure, I've been to both of the IL locations and they're definitely not scalping anything, it sounds like that store is doing some... extra curricular activities.
Ha, ha, $1799 for 3080Ti?
You are lucky. In my country the cheapest 3080Ti is $2400, and it's the cheapest.
The usual price is $2600 and up to $2900.
I'm just turned myself into a waiting mode until end of 2023, some say it's only then the gpu prices will start normalizing.
@@pkolomiy Just because your prices are worse does not mean his inflated ones are good. These Cards should be msrp and everything else is people making money off scarcity.
That doesn't smell right. All chains have uniform pricing because they buy their wares in bulk and then distribute them to the store locations. Thats the entire point behind it, be present everywhere and give customers reliable pricing across the board. This can't be legit.
Another awesome video! I know most people including myself have been heavily socialized/programmed to not trust something that's too good to be true. Sometimes a crazy good deal is simply that. I appreciate the guy in the blue shirt getting excited and doing a little jump dance with his friend. Good will is magical!
he was prepared to buy it without knowing its secrets
10:57 I haven't seen the hand slap with the fist bump follow up in 15-20 years. Those guys were legit legit👍
5800X in that case paired with a 1200W PSU. The sheer brilliance.
The PSU fan is going to cool the CPU
@@lorenzocampolucci4464 the psu fan won't ever turn on since it will be at 40% usage Max it's whole life
The graphics card outputs a lot of heat, and the psu is used as exhaust in this case. A higher wattage psu would handle the heat better.
What's the reason for 1200w psu in that case? 🤔 Seems like a huge overkill for a build with not a lot cooling capacity if you do oc.
Indeed. 750W would've been fine. EVGA also has physically smaller PSU's so they could've still fit the dvd drive.
The 1200w psu should be cooler than a lower spec
maybe GPU upgrade cuz u know rtx 4000 series can consume 650w on load, maybe total consumption could be 900w at that point, in the future 1000w+
@@DarkTyrantTenebria that is true. Future proofing since they didn't fit a 3080 and had to go for a 3070
@@lukasg4807 True but I doubt a EVGA G6 1000W would run too hot either. It would be smaller leaving more space inside.
thats not just a store it's a techno playground! Awesome!
Awww seeing its soon to be owners all pumped at the end makes me feel all warm and fuzzy
As a former Compaq employee, I appreciate the choice of the case :)
I've still got my HP Pavilion 8904 case sitting around for this exact reasons it wass my first pc and i want to do a sleeper build in it someday
My first computer was a Compaq from 1999 lol
Amen to that..
Wonder where my one is? Might be LTT Promotion Valuable Now? 🤪
In the garage somewhere?
I wish there were computer stores in my area. That had any kind of stock.
99% of people wish that
The closest thing to a computer store in my area is Best Buy🤮
@@zeroturn7091 Basically the same thing here and yeah it sucks. I would need to drive all day and stay over night if I wanted to visit the closest Micro Center
Love the x570M Pro 4. Certified for 3000, worked out of the box for 5000
"speed hole engaged"...that needs to be on a T shirt. Also digging the Craigslist-esque shady parking lot exchange.
