For some reason this video made me cry. Losing your dog, in any instance, is so hard. If you have to rehome your animal, please do it responsibly like Hannah. Rescuing has made me see the worst in humans and seeing how horrible it can be seeing dogs abused and mistreated. It has broken a lot of faith in me, and my first response to hearing you were rehoming Ollie was to lash out, even though I didn't. It's probably because she reminds me so much of my dog. I support your decision because you truly realize that you shouldn't have done something and you were fully responsible with solving it in the best way possible. Thank you Hannah for being a good role model.

That's really awesome, Hannah. You did a really amazing and selfless thing for the dog that you love. That's cool. You go, girl!! That's great to hear that Ollie is in a wonderful place.

I have so much respect for you because of this. I work at an animal rescue and I know how hard this is for people, and many people she put in your situation end up not really thinking about who ends up getting their animal when they can't have them any longer and I'm just so happy that you found a loving family for her and show that you really care about her and that she wasn't just some mistake that you wanted to go away. I am just so happy you show such love and respect for not only human life but the life of other non-human sentient animal beings. I know this has been such a rant you may never read but I hope you do because I really do support you and love everything you do.

I think it's really great that Hannah went through the grueling and emotional process of re-homing Ollie. It was the most considerate option for both parties, especially Ollie.
Dogs acclimate really well to new families when they're as loving as Hannah descried. It was absolute emotional HELL to re-home my dog when I went to college, but I took the time to find the best and most loving fit -I regret nothing.
Best of luck to Hannah and Ollie!

I completely respect your decision and think what you did for Ollie was the best decision for you both. The UA-cam community tends to forget that you and all the other UA-camrs; you're human. Glad to hear that the situation worked out well for you both. You're a wonderful person. 😊

Holy cow, this could almost be an update from someone who got divorced and decided to allow full custody of a child to the other parent. I think Hannah is still struggling a little with misplaced guilt/uncertainty. Those of us who are parents or pet parents need to understand her feelings and her struggle and continue to shower her with support. Sometimes a relationship needs to be altered or ended for the benefit of everyone involved. Love and hugs to you Hannah.

Yay for Ollie and everyone involved! You are such a great person for really finding what was right in your heart and following through in the way you did. I have had to re-home a dog and it was so hard, many hours of worry and tears in the end it worked out. I got updates a stuff for a while but then lost contact with the family. I still think about him often and miss him but It was the right thing. I'm so glad you will be in touch. Thanks for the Ollie update!

I recently had to give up my 14 year old pug because I can't have dogs in my apartment and my mom moved and refused to care for him anymore. Finding him a good home was one of the most stressful and hardest things to do. Luckily, after a lot of work, I found a wonderful co-worker that agreed to take him and now he has a different, but still great life and I get to see him all the time.

making a new normal is always bumpy (sometimes the bumps are actually horrifying spike monsters spewing poisonous gas at you even after getting past them, they're jerks).
but it is important and good to find a new normal that fits you when you need. and important and good to recognize that a new normal is necessary.
hugs to you for following through with the process. it sounds like the right thing you needed. it sounds like ollie provided the step you needed for lots of things. i'm glad that you feel the feelings and acknowledge that. you care. and caring is a good thing. there wouldn't be the community there is now without the caring and feeling.
good luck with your next step!

Being able to recognise the failings of any given situation and take positive steps to rectify it is a sign of maturity. I believe Hannah was sincere in her adopting a dog and dedicating her time to looking after and loving a pet. I also believe that Hannah placed her pet's need before her own when considering rehoming Ollie. As Hannah said, she got really busy and realised that whilst she loves Ollie and wished they could stay together, maybe refusing to place the dog in a more stable environment than the one she was offering would be a selfish decision and not in Ollie's interest, and in consequence not in Hannah's interest. I applaud her for being such a responsible pet lover. I wish her and Ollie and her new family many happy returns. xx

I don't know why people are being shits about this. You made a split second decision , but you came to the realization that you would no longer be able to give Ollie the proper care and attention she needed and made a difficult choice to rehome her (obviously to a great home). That is an incredibly mature and responsible move, as you recognized that it would not be right to just shove her off to a shelter or continuously travel and leave her at home.
I volunteered at a shelter for 5 years and it's so unbelievably upsetting to see people just dump their pets off at the shelter (especially older pets who have severely decreased chances of being adopted out - particularly during puppy/kitten season).

It makes me so happy that you have put Ollie's needs before your own and I think you are an amazing person for doing so. I truly wish more people could see things the way you do and you have truly inspired me in the past year, through all of my struggles to try to be a more positive person. I've had my bouts of depression brought on by horrible and crippling anxiety and I think I'm starting to take on some of your mentality of 'if you can't change it, then there's no use in worrying about it.'
My 5 month old human daughter and my year and a half old canine son thank you very much for being such a beautiful inspiration in all our lives.
    We love you very much!

Hannah I really have so much respect for you for the way you handled everything. It's relieving to see you so happy with the outcome of this situation. The best thing your can do for your (doggy) children is to make sure they live in a stable, happy, loving environment. Although I have absolutely no doubts that you were great at providing the happiness and love, major props to you for realizing that your lifestyle wasn't ideal for Ollie and not being selfish enough to deprive her of maybe a more suitable living situation. Much love and hugs to you and Ollie

I have nothing but respect for people who are mature and compassionate enough to re-home pets. It is terribly difficult to make such a decision, but it is necessary to give the animal the best life possible. I'd much rather see a dog re-homed than to see one ignored by its owner(s).

I totally understand you 100% . My whole family have had pets, cats and dogs.
My gran would search and search for a good home for her dog when they travelled .
My mother would look for the best care to keep our cat when we travelled once a year back home.
I totally understand the decision you made, I know it's hard to have to say goodbye you put Ollie first. you weren't selfish, you thought long and hard and didn't want that kind of life for Ollie.
To be honest I applaud you for doing this because it was hard but I know a lot of people who would just put they're pets in any care home for dogs when they travelled, regardless of how well the pets are looked after.
I understand and support your choice (it's non of my Business but I know you've been getting a hard time over it, so hope this helps.)
Keep smiling and it doesn't mean you can't have a pet in the future.

I'm so glad you put so much effort and work into giving Ollie a new home. You're right, it is easy (and too often done) to drop dogs off at shelters; but if someone cares about their pet as much as we all know you care about Ollie, it should be a no-brainer to go through all the emotions, and the work to find something that is just right. I was so sad for the negativity you initially received regarding your decision, but we know you've done well for Ollie and yourself by finding the family she's with now. Thank you for the update, I was actually just thinking about you and this situation earlier today! I am happy that this isn't goodbye for you and Ollie as well!

Sweet Hannah. I'm not sure if you'll ever see this comment because its an older video and I don't really know how any of that works, but I wanted to take a minute to tell you that I've been in your situation before, but on the receiving end with a cat that I now proudly call my best friend. His original mom is a wonderful woman with a huge heart who adopted him after her girlfriend left her. It wasn't long, though, before she realized that though she loved the animal, she wasn't able to give him what he needed. She worked from home, went to college, and generally wasn't home a lot. I work from home, and since have adopted a second feral cat who showed up on my door step, and they've both made my life exponentially better. So thank you for being honest with how you feel, doing what you felt was right, and taking the time to find Ollie a stable and loving home. I'm sure her new family is just as over the moon with her as you have been.

I had to give up a puppy myself after spending time considering circumstances I was in. Going back and forth Canada and Japan, still going to college, not settling down just yet then..etc.. I didn't just give up on my Tippy, which was his name, but found that my friend's family was planning to get a puppy, they have had a dog before, so it was a perfect place for Tippy too. It was tough to let go of Tippy but I just had to at that moment of my life. Yes, I could be irresponsible to have a puppy at the first place but we learn from our mistakes right? Your self-awareness is inspiring, Hannah. I think it's important to try to really be self-aware of your own weaknesses/capabilities etc and to let yourself make the right decision with no judgment toward yourself. And also your strengths! You made the right decision despite the selflessness of it and without letting outside voices influence you and that's something to be proud of! You seem to live your life with the very best balance of realism/optimism. The world needs more people with this mindset. I feel like applying this outlook to any sort of other decision or problem-solving situation would make the world a better place for all of us.

I'm so glad that you were able to find something that works great for not only Ollie but for you as well. The fact that you'll still be around, even though it's less, whilst giving Ollie a loving home is so sweet. Some animals get really sick when someone they're attatched to fully disappears from their life so the fact that you can stiil visit her, is in my opinion, a safe and healthy way on both ends for you to do this. There is no perfect solution to this issue, but I think you did a good one and I'm happy knowing Ollie will get the love she deserves and you get the peace of mind and heart that you deserve knowing she'll be safe, happy, and still be apart of your life and you apart of hers. You seem much happier than you were last year and I'm just so glad because you have such a big heart in your small Hart body. This decision was truly hartfelt. :)

It sounds like you did make a poor decision initially on the dog's behalf, although it ended up being a really positive experience for you (and Ollie too, I'm sure!) but recognizing that and deciding to re-home her now that you're too busy to look after her properly is absolutely the right and responsible thing to do. So fantastic that you've been able to find such a great solution.
The first dog that my family got within my lifetime (they'd had plenty before me!) was a young rescue dog who turned out to just really hate cats (well, and everything that wasn't human, basically - really sweet and gentle to people, but would literally try to take down a tractor or a cow). We already had two cats and we basically had to keep him on a lead in the house at all times. In the end, although it was heartbreaking to say goodbye to him, it wasn't fair to keep him like that, and it wasn't fair on our cats, who had been part of our family for several years and now felt terrorized within their own home.

So strong Hannah! Pets are often the best friends and it is very hard to put their needs before your own emotions. That's such a big thing and that's incredibly amazing that you did that Hannah. Super happy for both you and Ollie :)

I have happy tears! It's so good to hear you made this decision for you and Ollie. She is a little sweetheart who deserves all the best love. I'm so glad you get to still be a small part of her happy full new life.

Hannah, total respect to you for sharing this with us - I think you've made a really responsible and selfless choice, you really thought about what was best for Ollie. It's clear from this that you would never have parted with her unless you knew that she would be going to the right home. Well done and wish you and Ollie all the best! :)

glad to hear she's in a happy home with a sort of open-adoption atmosphere. I still update the Rescue my pup came from on her progress because...anyone who has ever had a dog in their lives for any length of time will always love that animal. If I was a foster mom or had to (God forbid) give up one of my babies, I'd want to know they were ok.

Hannah, I am so happy you were strong enough to push through and find a home that can be everything you ever hoped she would have. It is definitely a hard choice to make to do that and anyone who puts the needs of someone else (canine or human) above the easy way of doing things is absolutely incredible.
Maybe I'm just overly emotional but I'm nearly in tears seeing how much you truly love Ollie and the fact that you can still have her in your life in some way.
That said, I am so so so sorry for the back lash you received about all of this and I truly hope others can see that you found her a new home because of how much you desperately love her.
I hope we still get to see her appear in videos from time to time too so we can keep watching her grow (but if that's not possible I/we totally understand).
    Best wishes.

You're so strong! Deciding what's best for Ollie, and follow through, not just doing it the easy way. I got a puppy this march after waiting many years for my life to settle down a bit, enough to be a single puppy mum. Love him to bits, it would break my heart to give him up.

Gotta LOVE IT when that happens! You got Ollie when you needed her. Ollie's new parents are getting her now because THEY need her.
...And dogs are pack animals, so she's got to be happy having doggy siblings. :-)

Glad to know Ollie is doing great! I had a similar experience with our family dog, Bandit. He now lives with a friend and has been spoiled rotten with his dog sister and is so happy! Wish you the best, Hannah! Keep on keepin' on...and other cheesy farewells.

So impressed with how you handled all of this because you are 100% right, sometimes you have to do what is best for everyone and it is your responsibility to make sure it is done right. Ollie came into your life and did what she had to do and you have done right by her now - I am glad to hear you are feeling better now and you and Ollie can look forward to an awesome future

You already had my respect for all that you do and the wonderful person you are but the way you handled this difficult decision just further validates that respect.
I had to re-home my cat about 6 months ago. It was a very tough decision and there were a lot of tears throughout the whole process. But in the end it was worth it, and I know he is in a happy and loving home. I was even updated the next day after bringing him to his new home that he had sat in his new owner's lap already. It had taken me two years before he became a lap-cat. I was bit jealous, but so happy for him. :)

I'm happy Ollie has a good home, and that you still get to have a place in her life. You had a hard decision to make in giving her up, but you handled the situation with a lot of maturity. You didn't take the easy way out and drop her in a shelter and wash your hands of the situation, and you didn't cause further stress in trying to force things to work. You did the right thing given the circumstances, and I'm so happy things worked out and that you're so upbeat and excited about it. :)

I used to foster dogs and it was always so bittersweet when they found their forever home! Fostering is a great option if you still want some puppy loving but travel a lot because shelter dogs are just the happiest to be out and about even for a little while
