    Most of the time they didn't have sheet music..they learned from each other, and passed the different types down through their heritage; ie Celtic, Appalachian, Old Time hoedowns, etc. Most of us classical players must have the sheet music, for symphonies, concertos, etc. But, learning to play by "ear" is very rewarding and oh, so fun!

    Now friends and neighbors, that's music. and I don't care who you are. If you can keep still during all of this, then they'd better call the coroner, because you have left this earth.

    I worked today, for 3 hours of overtime, and while I sat with a co-worker we got into the conversation of how woman can walk with high heels. How they balance, ect... Then to see this beautiful woman Sierra do the red river jig in them.. I'm just like.. wow.

    Black Mountain Rag is an example of a cross-tuned fiddle. Most of the time, both types of music are tuned conventionally. They are 5ths, lowest string is G next up is D, next up is A next up is E. Both types of music is awesome, in my books. There are also a lot more fiddle players who have learned their tunes by "ear", as many old time fiddlers didn't read music.

      In my opinion there's no such thing as the best fiddle player ever there's so many great players out there, guys like Marco Connor Calvin Vollrath
      Michael Cleveland, the list goes on and on and on their outstanding, getting back to the players here they're fantastic too.

    Not exactly,. The style is the difference between a fiddle and a violin. I play both classical violin and fiddle. The only time the fiddle is tuned different is when it is "cross-tuned", one or more strings are tuned down or up, depending on the song.

    @texexpatriate - 'DELIVERANCE'
    TWAS ORIGINALLY A BANJO AND GUITAR TUNE THEN THESE DANG FIDDLE RAPPERS TOOK IT, TWISTED IT, BOWED IT, DOUBLE STOPPED IT, SLURRED IT...AND...AND...DONE REAL GOOD!
    IF THIS HELPED PLEASE SEND ME A DOLLAR, I NEED SOME NEW FIDDLE STRINGS.
    :^)

    No, he broke some of the horse hair in his bow. We need to have our bows "re-haired" often.

  • @Jiibay7796

    I don't believe so? The only difference that I myself ever noticed was how they were tuned? They sure looked like the same instrument to me.
