In the animation industry, tools are never used to make the workers' lives easier, but to pile more work on fewer individuals. If this tool actually works, 70% of the animators will go home permanently, and the 30% left will work even more to output six times the quota.
As a person who gets lost and stuck sometimes in detail (basically, I'm an ocd slowpoke), if this can help with inbetweens based on my own work, that can be useful. I think even with it's limitations, there wonky frames can be used as somewhat decent reference to be redrawn. For me the main issue is that it may use the frames we make to train/use our developed style. I do get that a lot of people aren't willing to spend hours/years understanding technical drawing/lighting/shading/physics of movement and much more. I understand that they get excited about prompting to get something made for them if their technical skills don't match up with their visions. I just think that there has to be a manner in which artists' work can remain respected just as much as that desire to be able to visually say something for those who aren't visual story makers. Anyway, thanks for sharing about ToonCrafter! Appreciated. I'm curious about how the software was modeled... Hmm! :)
Thanks for your comment. I think the artists skill will always reign over any AI, but I think as this sort of software gets better then it can be a very useful tools for professionals.
I tried ToonCrafter with high hopes but it's useless for anything serious. Even when your start and end frame are very similar too much warping occurs, and too many strange artifacts appear, especially around the mouth. Since it has a habit of stretching and warping limbs, it requires more redrawing than simply tweaking your original frame.
At the moment...yes. It's nowhere near studio quality, but I can see it helping out animators with speeding up their workflow. I'm just trying to see the potential of what it can become.
This is going in a real awesome direction for people who cant draw but want to animate. I think the art of storytelling is actually going to become the key differentiator as creating content is becoming easier for all. Also subtle movements, highly engaging expressions are still missing in these tools so far.
How can you conceivably argue that this is theft or have you just so given yourself away to the anti AI mindset that you have lost all ability to reason@@ISavant
@@virgilxavier1 because that is the definition of art thefts. that's why you can't just copy van goghs and sell them as if he did them, and that's what this hack, lazy bullshit does. all while wasting water and energy. you want to be creative so bad? pick up a fucking pencil. or krita's free. do it yourself.
One Day People will no longer understand the basic of animation and everything will look ugly. Remember Disney is not able to reproduce the old animation 2D with Painting Brackground they was making long time ago. Because they lost everyting using 3D.

as an animator, this news does not please me, i already know a few undeserving individuals who use google stock images and ai to make their videos in the form of "animation", and its affecting the quality control in my country real bad. I hope all the nations in the world start realizing that this is the beginning of a probable economic depression, where individuals will eventually stop earning and will run into poverty, while the rich and powerful continue to grow. The governments really need to act on this, training ai with other people's work without their consent and then stealing their artstyle through ai is not fair, and it needs to be curbed. actual artists need a creative outlet to express their emotions or streamline their own ambitions. I know so many people aspiring to become professionals in this field and to see that ai will take their jobs away even before they actually graduate is just concerning. really want to go back when ai wasnt a thing.
I totally understand, it is a tough time to be an artist right now. I actually trained as an illustrator...and now everyone has become one with a click of a button. But I do believe there will still be a place for traditional art, people still buy paintings and I think as humans we appreciate when something has been created with passion and not by a machine.
It is more a proof of concept, I would never use these in any professional work. Hopefully people can use tools like this to help their workflow and not replace jobs entirely.
All it'll do is piss off actual animators, whose work has been stolen to train these models in order to create soulless facsimiles of their stolen work.
This tool is first of all going to help/replace people who draw in-between frames in animation. I think it's one of the most soul-draining jobs, or at least can be such. Very tedious, from what I understand and know, very high amount of work for little pay and little perceived value per "piece" of effort, since there must be many frames and the change between them is small.
1.The narrative surrounding the alleged art theft by AI is becoming repetitive. It is important to gain a deeper understanding of the functioning of LLMS and general AI models. 2. This AI tool, despite being in its early stages, has the potential to greatly benefit animators in countries where production is crucial and they face unfair treatment. 3. As these tools continue to improve, the animation industry will witness a significant boost in quality and efficiency. Projects that used to require months or even years of work will now be completed in a matter of days or weeks. 4. Independent animators, whether working alone or in small teams, can utilize these tools to create animations efficiently and with exceptional quality.
@@theriddleman7648 it's not "alleged", every AI company admits to stealing art to train their models. the system is BUILT on STEALING the work of others for the benefit of lazy grifters to church out soulless garbage. You are not making art.
Mappa animators can finally see their family once a year

I hope it doesn't lead to more work being put on individuals. They are probably working overtime already.

This is amazing , hope it will stay open source🎉
Thanks for watching! Yes, hopefully they keep it open source.
Amazing - they should have layers to descibe areas in the image. This is the plane cockpit layer mask. This is person x, person y
That would be great, hopefully they add that in future updates. Thanks for watching!

Is the tool great for pixar style animation??
It works best with 2d animation. But it's worth experimenting.
Please I have a problem on the alternative website 6:20 , when I press run it doesn’t work it says : no output , even with the exemple
Please help
Sorry to hear you had a problem, did you change any of the settings?
Nice
Thanks for watching.

Things are definitely changing, but I believe many forms of animation will go on. People will get tired of it if its all the same.
I feel we need non premade examples.
I'll try some in an upcoming video. Thanks for watching.
0:50 you know what anime? i've been to heathrow airport
I'm not sure what anime it is sorry.
what if i need more than 2 frames
You can use the alternative website to add more than 2 frames. The link to it should be in the video description box below the video.
It's definitely NOT going to change the Animation industry. Playing with it at home maybe

Maybe we should just ban computers and force everyone to use paint brushes heck typewriters in photocopiers also take away precious work from artists

During the Industrial Revolution, farmers and laborers protested against the government because their jobs were threatened. There is nothing new.
But the video quality is very weak i can up scale the vid with free tools
Yes you can upscale them, I usually do that for most of my videos.
not free anymore
No animation director worth their salt would accept any of these results.
Doesn't mean careers are safe though.
