I appreciate videos like this a lot. Cleaning up and fixing older electronics of mine has been a relaxing escape lately, but some things like stickboxes I'm not very confident at disassembling so it's great to see a demonstration up close

I just tried this but when I reassembled the controller I noticed I couldn’t move vertically. Do you know why? Edit: It was because I reassembled the stick box incorrectly. It works now.
Thanks i fixed my huge joystick drift to the right. However it's a bit late responding to the directions now. Maybe I used to much grease. Hope it will be over in some time.
nice work, Savestate when you release a spring in a stickbox, please be careful to the direction of parts. Upside of spring-holder jumps into your face. That was R E A L L Y D A N G E R You should hold downside horizontally and spread sideways. It is a little safer.
You mentioned greasing the stickbox, in the past I've just popped the cap off the stick and sprayed silicone lubricant in while moving the stick around. Do you think that's good enough or even does anything? I always feel like it helps but it could just be placebo or something.
I have a type 1 stickbox and definitely dont have the tools for soldering and desoldering. Is there a way to just clean the inside of the stickbox without taking it out ie spraying some cleaning solution is there? Im hoping this will fix my gummy left analog stick which doesnt seem to register more than one up directional input

i have T1 mechanisms and i accidentally snapped a potentiometer case in half in the upper part, it reached the brown part. is there a way i can fix that?

nah sounds like you have an old t1. cleaning it wouldn't do much for it you should replace the stickbox with a t2 from a new, old-packaging style nunchuck i go over that in my "replacing a t1/t2 stickbox" video here: ua-cam.com/video/cYSvnG0sSBk/v-deo.html
i recently purchased a GC controller from ebay and everything works great except for vertically up on the stick. it just doesn't seem to have the full range that the other directions do and so sometimes Link (playing OoT) walks when i want him to run. Down, left-right work fine. is this something i can fix without complete disassembly? i don't want to desolder the box from the mobo so that i don't screw anything up. i already did a basic cleaning of the entire controller using isopropyl alcohol when i first got it. thanks edit: i did some fiddling around and tried it with the controller shell off and it works fine. it seems that the problem is the joy stick itself not being able to go fully forward as it hits the controller shell. not a problem with anything electronic or with the stick box. not sure how to fix this
don't need to desolder the stickbox if it's a T3 as shown in this video. otherwise there's probably some physical junk in there you need to clean out or maybe the potentiometers need replacement (which would require a solder job unfortunately). best bet for a first thing to do is follow this video if it's a T3 though
if you have pode that currently prevents snapback , replacing them will reintroduce snapback. in that case i would recommend installing a snapback capacitor after the new pots

umm I don't really know the exact details to the lube, but yeah they definitely were not good for these I guess why the stick wiggles around left and right too much is just be resembling it badly?

its fine if the stickbox is brand new

Just wondering, why kind of grease did you use since I heard some greases are conductive, or does it not really matter since the stickbox is plastic?

Do other greases/grades work? I have lots of grease for keyboards and some silicone lube for some 3d printed stuff
silicone based works but too thick and it can really mess with it

sounds like some gunk might have gotten loose in the area, try cleaning the area with a brush or toothpick

you’ll need to resolder on a new pot. either from another controller or wii mote nunchuck or from a wii classic controller

any fix for a stickbox with a large deadzone? gotta get a smaller screwdriver b4 i can see if cleaning it helps.
it won’t help unfortunately, the deadzone is due to overuse and is not reversible

oh yeah, just taking them out can temporarily do so as well but it will go back to normal fairly quickly, like within a week or two

What happens if you don't apply grease?
Without grease, the parts will wear down quickly since it'll be dry parts rubbing against each other.
is it possible to use vaseline instead of silicone grease?
