this vid is great! i recently got a 2000xl and had no idea how to hook it up to my laptop, but after seeing this video i am so happy i found a tutorial like this. The instructions were super easy to follow and i had it connected as soon as i got the adaptor! thanks!

I'd seen this a little while back, and just searched for it again (OCT 2016). I used this to set up my 1000 to use with Pro Tools. Thanks for what you do JFilt!! Ted Twis
Agreed. Don’t need the Akai MPC X or Live...can’t afford new equipment. I appreciate what I have already and make it work for me. Great tips Filt...you’re always on point. Much respect and success.
after years of using my MPC 2000 with Reason, but suffering with the random pads as a controller, but making do with it + I could never find anything on Reason's Forums about how to change that -- you have solved it for me finally. my only issue now is having to assign the pads every time I power it on, that kinda sucks. but still, good lookin' out.
Great video. Just bought an mpc 2000xl and wasn't sure if I made the right choice. you have really good videos. I'd like too see more videos with different sounds used aside from drums. Thanks for all of the information that you provide ...
My pleasure and sir u have made an excellent choice with the XL. If u keep going thru the vids u will come across plenty with "different sounds". I'll be doing more so thanks for watching!
YO!!!!! Excellent Point About Controllers and DAW's my Man. So many people I needed this or that for my interface and run cords here and there. I had no idea it's that simple. Probably Cop One Today. That's what's really good!! Peace.
This was a very informative video! Thanks for sharing you knowledge, I'm going to apply this to my setup as soon as possible. I've had my MPC2000 for 16 years and never hooked it up to my computer! Smh, I know, I know. Question, will I still be able to use my own samples (from my MPC2000) in conjunction with ProTools on the computer? Secondly how would I connect my DJ gear so everything is working together?
+Ian Bailey my pleasure. you can if u turn your samples into midi. (I use the free version of stucture) I hook everything to a line mixer and come out of that into Protools
Not a bad video. That's something completely new to me, and I'm far from an MPC user. However, to say you have the same abilities as a Maschine, can't agree there. But great informational video.
ok I need a little help. I have an mpc 2000xl, a scarlett focusrite 6, and ableton 10 max. I use a midi to usb adapter with the midi in connected to the midi in A port and midi out to the midi out A port on the back of the mpc, and the usb directly into my pc. I open ableton and the mpc displays as a "usb 2.0 device" and I have no idea where to go from there. I believe all I need to do is change some settings on the mpc, but it may be the ableton settings or the type of connection too. Please let me know in as much detail as possible what I need to do so that I can use the mpc as a drumpad for sounds in ableton (as a controller)
Question. One thing I love about the mps2000xl is the quantizing. The way it allows you quantize things early, exactly on time, or late. Is that function something that translates to your DAW when you use the mpc as a controller? Or is the mpc a slave to the quantizing capabilities of the DAW?
I have the cables, can't get to work it with mpc500 and fruity loops, messed around with options in mpc (sync master, pads to sampler off so on), even lights on midi usb cables won't light up when I hit the pads.
MPC 500 can be finicky. Restart it and restart Ableton. Make sure in Ableton preferences that your midi sync is on in settings for your Audio interface.
Great vid. Got a lot of info from it. I have the earlier versions of your equipment being a MPC 2000 ( not xl) and the Ensoniq EPS16 plus . CAN I connect my two machines directly to each other without running through a laptop , only a mixer and with 3/4 plugs or only midi will work?
Appreciate all you’re 2000xl videos JFilt. I’m trying to connect mine with midi but I’m wondering if it will work with the m-audio m-track and midi cables into Ableton? I’ve numbered them in order and switched it to 1A as well as turned the in and outs on in the ableton midi sync.
Always been scared to mess with midi... never can link it up to protools . I do however use a eps to trigger a emu rack synth/sampler from time to time but as fas as being able to run protools with the akai im lost. Hahah.
should work and yes i recommend midi usb cable unless you wanna use old school midi cables to your interface and then out of the interface into computer via usb
What up j I have a quick question! So I did what you explained in the video. And it worked but I can't hear my vst sound module through my speakers but the signal is definitely goin thru! I have the m audio uno like you and a audio interface with two ins and two outs. Do I have it hooked up wrong!?
U may have to check your manual to see how to route the midi signal or try turning computer off and then back on again...im not a tech guy unfortunately LOL
Hey wassup homie! I have the MPC 2000xl and Logic Pro X.. is it possible to record on the MPC only or do I have to record thru Logic Pro X.. I love that mpc feel and the fact that it quantizes a lot easier
Please share what u changed ur Protools settings to talk to MPC. Seen other videos and all are doing different things which do not work for me. Also the MIDI audio set up. Something is not syncing correctly thanks.
What's good my Man? Do you need a midi-uno to accomplish this, or is a regular interface sufficient? Not having any luck getting this tutorial/tip to work. Thanks.
@@Verysickbeats That's what I thought. It is not working with MMC or MTC either and it used to not to long ago. Would you say maybe a cable replacement or what? Open to all suggestions. Thanks for all the great and detailed information on your channel, in addition to your uplifting positive attitude and outlook.
Does it have to be a Midi to USB connection? I have a Focusrite 2i4 interface plugged into my laptop, and I’m trying to connect my MPC to Ableton through it. If I plug the midi input and output into the Focusrite Scarlett shouldnt this do the same thing? I’m having no luck and the MPC won’t show up or isn’t recognized by my DAW.
Happy New Year. I need help I load some samples onto the Mpc 2000xl and one thing bothers me. Some sounds can be selected between poly mono and note off. Why is it like this? I finish the kits on the PC with the 2xl program. The other question is When I start a project and I don't like it. Do I have to turn off the Mpc or can I delete everything?
Yo Jfilt, do I have to re-arrange all of the pad's assigned numbers EVERYTIME I want to use my 2000xl with Ableton, or is there a way to save it onto a zip drive or into the device itself? Merry Christmas

One question, please: just received a similar device like yours, plugged it in, Reason sees it, it is ok: BUT, in Kong Drum Player in Reason, note 35 is a pad higher than the one on the MPC.

did someone experience this "1 note higher", in Reason?

For your info: the Kong Drum Player, if you google it, you will see that it looks like the MPC.
When I play note 35 (first note, at the bottom-left), it does not play in Reason - the second one, after it (note 36, on the MPC) is where I can play the notes in Reason.
NEVERMIND: found the solution! :)
- first lower, bottom-left, note should be 36 on the MPC, not 35.
Hope that this will help others! :)
