- What is the real difference between lithium and lead acid batteries? Today we talk about which I use personally on my boat every day and the key differences I think you should know when picking a battery for your trolling motor/ boat.

Maybe I'm just not all that smart but your the only person who has explained the differences in a way tha I can understand. I have 2 questions if you can answer then. I have a % gauge for my lead acid will this work on lithium and I am looking at some new inexpensive trolling motors that have battery light gauges. Would these work with lithium. Thanks.
But, lead acid can be drained and put new fluid for many years.
That’s what I’ll be doing with mine. But for the same price, I’d rather not have to do that.
"many" years is sort of subjective.
Ive had $300 Trojen batteries last 5 years and ive had one last 1 year.
Thats with keeping a gallon of distilled water in the boat always.
The lithiums i got for one of my boats is guaranteed for 10 years. So call it only twice as long.
My group 31 batteries were 76 pounds each x 2.
The 100 ah lithiums are 21 each. I shaved 110 pounds off the back of my boat which translated into 3 seconds faster on plane time, and more level ride.
Usable run time is roughly double or more and recharge time is less than half.
Cost me a grand even for 2 100ah lithiums and a charger.
I was going to spend $600 on new trojan lead acid batteries anyway so it was a no brainer for me even if life expectancy was the only bonus.
