Here is what J Rockett Audio Design says about this awesome little tone machine.
The A I r c h I l d Six Sixty Compressor is our sonic interpretation of the famous vintage 660 studio compressor. Consistently regarded as the best compressor ever made. For years we have used the original 660 and 670 (Stereo) compressors in the studio and decided to try and make that sonic signature available to the guitar community without the $10-$100k price tag.
The typical iconic guitar compressor has created very recognizable tones throughout the history of music, especially Country music. That being said we felt that there were already too many clones of that legendary circuit with few other variants available.
The typical Iconic circuit tends to crush the sound more like a limiter but has also cemented that sound into certain genres of music which is a great sound if so desired. We wanted to make available a compressor that works like a studio compressor which enhances harmonic richness and evens out transients without crushing the entire spectrum. The A I R C H I L D Six Sixty simply makes you want to play more, it increases sustain without crushing your output, it imparts richness to your overall tone and adds feel to your playing. Our target tones were the slide tones of Lowell George and the singing lead/rhythm tones of Mark Knopfler.
The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.
Nice pedal. Sounds nice. Great job on the demo, compressors are really hard to showcase on UA-cam. Well done as always.
Cheers Vinny
Great review with tasty licks and good explanation, too. Thank you 😊 and the wonderful color of your Strat makes me looking forward to get my Suhr JM Pro HH stoptail back at the end of April 😱🤩 it had Sonic Blue finish but after an accident it now gets a nice refinish in Daphne Blue like your strat 🤩 Greetings from Germany 😊
Really enjoy your demos!
Cheers Joe!
@@TheStudioRats Tx. You too!
beautiful demo! What pickups are in this strat?
I will never be happy until someone makes a pedal that precisely recreates the guitar intro tone of Shine On YCD.
Was that a Compressor and something to do with a mixing desk?
Straight into the desk if I’m not mistaken! Amazing clean tones from DG on that one, but a set of vintage low output pickups like Fender CS69 will more than likely give you the most authentic 1974-77 tones! Second to my personal favorite which is the Seymour Duncan Antiquities :)
@@jonbarwick5946 Thanks for the info John. I have an Xotic ‘strat’ with Raw Vintage ‘60s in the neck and middle and a Duncan SSL5 in the bridge and it’s a versatile combination.
Great Demo, Just Wondering, Where In Your Chain Would You Place This Compressor?
I like it at the front
Sounds like a very natural compressor. Very Nice
Great video!!! I was going to buy an Origineffects CALI76….but now I am in trouble!! Which one to choose???have you tried both? cheers!!
Great video! How is it compared to the UA Max?
It’s completely analog, I really like it, it’s got a great snap to the compression.
How’s the noise level? Some compressors have a high noise floor
Great demo! Have you ever tried the Boss CP1X compressor?! I’d be so curious how that compares/stacks up to these other comps you have reviewed and tried.
I have not Im afraid.
@@TheStudioRatsthanks for your response. I really enjoyed your demo!
@@TheStudioRatswhy scared?
@@TheStudioRatsdo not be afraid brother
popping knob 2:32 😳
I want one lol
Like that strat rosewood with truss rod nut missing 🤔must be a custom shop .Still not got a compressor lol will catch the podcast tomorrow night
vintage style strats have the truss rod adjustment at the bottom of the neck. You have to take the neck off to adjust it.
What's with all the reverb & distortion?
Sorry Hank!
Ugh!
Great playing .
Forget the grumpy comments 🙂
Reminds me of my Thorpy Fat General!
What Amp/Cab IR were you using for this m8?
It was an amplified national Overdrive reverb and a two notes torpedo studio
Hey Siri, show me Paul Drew in his happy place.
“Here’s a video from The Studio Rats about a J Rockett compressor pedal”
Thanks Siri, nailed it.
Not really. 😂
The bottom just fell out of the Fairchild market
I can’t stand reverb or delay
40 K? Thats fantasy money for an compressor Paul.
Sure if youre a producer for Pink Floyd and a 100d more high selling bands.
You already sound better than the rest (almost) and dont need this.
Dunno if i missed what this box cost?
The pedal doesn't cost 40k, that's just what the rack units can go for
@@TheDanielGuy23
I did understod that.
It costs around 225 ish and tax
