Only came across these guys as I searched for “Jazz trio” for something different to listen to while I work, now I’m hooked. This is insanely good. Breathtaking skill all round but musical feel by the bucket load too👏
I love this fast version of the way you look tonight it’s a great one especially using the “of salt peanuts Bella Charlotte has to be one of my favorite jazz pianist I even really love his faster versions of songs like written in the stars and also my shining hour.
Did you notice there was minimal applause ( with only one guy yelling 'Yeah!') after Bill Charlap's amazing solo. Amazing solo! Did I say that right? Amazing solo!! But after the drummer's acceptable solo there was a mound of applause! What is wrong with people? Don't they recognize true exceptionalism?
You are right on with your comment. The technique displayed by Charlap is incredible - you nailed it........this is exceptional......a higher level than you will hear - Tatum, Jarrett, Jamal, Corea, Barron, Shearing, Brubeck, Peterson, Evans (who did I miss, ) and a load of newcomers in the last 25 years most of who will not make it big time. I am an advanced pianist, and I know what it takes to achieve what the aforementioned can do, but Charlap is a cut above.
I love jazz. And you can’t have a jazz trio without a drummer. But the drummer and bassist, for all their skill and all that they add, are really secondary to the piano. That’s why it’s the Bill Charlap Trio. But they do make a noise and that’s what some people respond to. Especially in jazz there should be room for everyone.
@@tanicus11 It's not majestic, it's just silly jazz by a hyper-active guy who studies and practices a lot. It's not gelling organically, he's just throwing fragments together that he has drilled incessently. In other words, it has no soul in which to make it majestic, it is ego masterbation.
Love the moment of 1:40 when Bill looks at his watch and decides that the others may join in. 😄

"The drummer" is the one and only Kenny Washington. He deserves a mound of applause and isn't any less exceptional than Bill Charlap
no unfortunately....but you shouldn't be surprised
These 3 fine musicians are playing and the two at the table are doing anything but listen to them.

Awesome piano solo, Bill!!
Excellent version!! Amazing....Could do without the couple having dinner not caring for the music at all....
Should they be up dancing?
Then along came Bill.
What a dorky version. Unswing.
dorky are the folks who are conformatly eating at such a majestic performance
