Wow.Just Wow.I saw Maurice André play masterfully at a Trumpet Symposium hosted by The University of Denver in 1973+-. There was a rumor going around that he did session work and played 'jazz' under a different name, but I had no idea he has this kind of range.
Interesting theory, because Mr Andre said himself that he wished he knew how to improvise, since he knew had good chops he figured he could have done some interesting work. So I really do not expect to find him playing any real jazz under a pseudonym. He did burlesque shows and the like early on, but that is not the same. You don't sail through the Brandenburg concertos without having serious range, ability and endurance.
Can't agree more...add Arturo Sandoval to that list and you have my 3 idols! I am not sure how well Maynard and Andre would have "meshed" though. Andre is all about control and finesse, Maynard is all about sheer power. Andre pretty much only played classical music, that Maynard never touched...I wish Arturo would have connected with the two of them though, as he'd been able to fit with both easier.
Arturo and Maurice were friends.. I spoke to Arturo years ago. Arturo was playing in some club in Paris when he still lived in Cuba. Maurice came to see him, saw the hotel the Cuban govt had checked Arturo into and brought him Back to his house. They played duets together and Maurice gave him one of his Selmer Piccolo trumpets and showed him a few things.. Also everyone knows the story Maynard was also a great friend of Arturo. He gave him one of his old Holton’s when Arturo was in Irakere. Arturo cherishes it to this day.
why sounds the sound so different between "normal" register and ultra high register ? I mean with headphone they seem to come frome another direction maybe he recorded separetely
There were some lower register parts that he played on a 1 1/2 C trumpet mouthpiece. The cadenza was all on a Bach 7DW trumpet mouthpiece, though, which isn't super shallow, just shallow relative to the 1 1/2 C trumpet mouthpiece he plays on for most of his classical B-flat trumpet playing.
It is only shallow relative to what he normally plays on B-flat trumpet. It is a Bach 7DW, which is a little bit shallower than a Bach 7C. It isn't super shallow like Schilke A cups or Bach E or F cups. He normally plays a Bach 1-1/2 C for classical B-flat trumpet stuff.
@@gregghurst4285 "So ??????" Don't get me wrong. This is quite amazing. But a shallow mouthpiece goes a VERY long way. BTW, I had a friend at university who tried out a Bill Chase Schilke mouthpiece I was selling for my brother. He went up to super C and just kept going. He then took the mouthpiece out and said "get this the fuck away from me." He could scream high A's on a 1 and a half C that would fill the room. He does a lot of legit playing now. I think his talent is wasted.
All irrelevant to a large extent. Faddis plays a fairly shallow cup. Arturo played a 3C for years now plays a 1 1/4C!! Always wondered why he switched later in life he played a Mt Vernon 3C for about 40 years.
une performance que seul maurice était capable de faire .RIP maurice andré

Did anybody ever figure out his jazz pseudonym?
@@DallasCrane I've been looking, with no success so far.

Maurice and Dizzy got along like life long friends. I saw them yuk it up at a Trumpet Symposium in Denver (mid 70's). What a treat.

@@chrispettus2532 so i'm right ?
You can hear he is playing a shallow mouthpiece. Down low the response isn't quite there.
So ??????
It is only shallow relative to what he normally plays on B-flat trumpet. It is a Bach 7DW, which is a little bit shallower than a Bach 7C. It isn't super shallow like Schilke A cups or Bach E or F cups. He normally plays a Bach 1-1/2 C for classical B-flat trumpet stuff.

Horst Fischer plays 8va higher!
But that’s all does in that version. It’s good, but just an effect (a brilliant one) rather than the full works as here.
