"And I don't remember the rest of the conversation because my brain turned to soup." So relatable. This is why this channel is so good.
The arthropod joke has a huge Bill Nye The Science Guy vibe. I love it.
Please tell me I'm not the only one to go back at the arthropod part over and over agin
You're not.
+Astro Gobo hahaha I know, I know, I'm there stuck at the moment XD
Cailean Morrison Actually...I was just gonna ask the same thing^^
Thank god, I am not alone.
arthroPOOOOD
I literally said, "It should be farther," out loud to myself as I was editing this, but that was how the question got asked...
Important question: Would you star in a Night at the Museum spin-off set at the Field Museum?
HighKingTurgon I think they made that a while back and called it "The Relic."
typacsk but The Relic is scary....
HighKingTurgon I'm teasing :)
she's so incredibly smart, beautuful and talented. definitely a personal role model of mine
My question is why beauty if so frequently mentioned in female role models?
I'd never once consider the appearance of WEB DuBois or Henry Flagler in considering them role models- it'd be an asinine thing to do.
Ian Mitchell While it is true that people usually use the word 'beautiful' to describe females, I assume that (and correct me if I am wrong, Elizabeth Elizondo)Elizabeth Elizondo uses the word not to only describe Emily's physical appearance. Real beauty extends beyond what you look like; it is shown in your character. I believe that Emily is a beautiful person because she does wonderful things, has a strong passion for what she does, and has such a sweet and charming personality.
I want to be more like Emily. You are an inspiration!
Amazing;
This girl is teaching us about a bunch of amazing things in a very well compiled short video and some guys can only comment on her appearance.
She is smart, there for knows she is beautiful.
Pay more attention to what is being though so you can leave a better comment than "u r hot".
Constructive and knowledgeable comments are much better welcome I bet.
this is the mkst important comment! so many women working in STEM face problems of feeling their work will never be fully and truly appreciated due to their gender. thanks for commenting that!
I'm 22 and I never realized that museums were places of research. I just always thought of them in more of the 'warehouse' style where whatever they get they just put on display for people to come look at. Thanks Brain Scoop for enlightening me about all the hard work and research that goes on behind the scenes!
I love the way you give your answers to questions. I can really see your enthusiasm coming out and it's seriously awesome :)
I plan on going to grad school for scientific illustration, or prosthetics design. Taxidermy does sound very appealing after watching this, especially since I already make sculptures with animal remains.
The plants of the world exhibit looks intense! Definitely on my too do list. I need to find out what the orchid you showed is. I saw some live specimens at ABG last week, and they're huge!
"To get as many people as possible excited about the incredible unlikelihood of our collective existence." A nobler cause could not be more eloquently spoken. I'm so happy the internet has The Brain Scoop. Never stop doing what you do so amazingly Emily!
Emily is just such a cutie pie!
The show has not only retained it's charm, but it is even better. Keep up all the hard work! What you guys are doing is the future is education and I fully support it.
New subscriber here. Thanks for calling me a scientist and promoting such friendly attitudes towards science - "we are all scientists" - love it!
Arthopooood!
Thanks for answering my question, Emily! I've been lured by cookies before too, but never has it gotten me a cool job at a prestigious museum.
As someone from Chicago, I love seeing you at the Field Museum! That arthropod scared the crap out of me when I was a little kid!
Anyone think that Emily seems a lot more happy and excited now that she's working at the Field Museum? I mean, yeah, there was a lot of sentimental value tied to the university museum, but here she's surrounded by so much more and it really shows that she's in her element.
I still get stupidly happy when I see a new video from The Brain Scoop!
So glad to see your enthusiasm. I hope my daughters find something that makes them as happy as science makes you. Maybe one of them will even find science.
You also make me feel like I am worth something and that there is exiting things left in this world to live for. Thank you!
Your channel has been one of my favorites since I stumbled upon the skinning of the wolf. Every Time I see a new video from you guys I get all sorts of excited. It's fun to learn new stuff about animals, even being a little older
. And even more so fun to learn about the anatomy and habits of animals.
Love the enthusiasm!
I am so happy we still have this channel. Thanks for the great questions and answers.
Emily the world is a better place for having you in it and I hope you are proud of yourself
I always look forward to The Brain Scoop. Whenever a video is posted it just makes my day.
I love that you got lured into this job by cookies. :D
Also I can't believe they did all that artwork and sculpting by hand...that is completely crazy
I miss regular episodes! Our whole family misses you.
Emily is legit one of my favourite humans. I got to have a chat with her at VidCon this year, and she was so lovely and excited and wonderful.
DFTBA Emily and Michael!
She's so graceful
no, all i commented on in this particular episode was her legs, the beauty of which stood out for not being seen previously amidst all the amazing things this amazing woman talks about is every other episode. just because when given a limited amount of character space to type in a response people choose to make shortened remarks regarding something they've observed it doesn't necessarily mean that is the only thing that they took note of.
Emily, I loved your answer to the question of whether you consider yourself a scientist. Very enlightened. :) Your responses are always so well thought through, and I greatly appreciate you sharing the wisdom and knowledge you garner from your experiences with us all. We can never have enough people like you in the world, eager to learn and teach.
And congrats on the job, you deserve it. :)
Oh, and trilobites rock!
Also, totally agree with the notion that we're all scientists. Human society consists of information being relayed between individuals, and the way I see it, we can be creative by deviating each piece of information further from reality, or more scientific by preserving it's accuracy. We can all learn by both understanding what is closer to the truth, or by hypothesising that which we do not yet comprehend. It's important to recognise that even if people are wrong, they help others learn why.
Emily is perfect. She's clever, smart, and cute. Most importantly, she has an excitement for learning about, sharing, and preserving the natural sciences that makes the subject matter all the more interesting. Thanks Emily!! :D
Came here for Emily stayed for the ANTHROPOD!!
Arthropod*
Recently, I visited the Houston Museum of Natural Science's new paleontology wing and was blown away at how many different kinds of trilobites there were. I had no idea scientists have found thousands of the little suckers at all stages of their life cycles. The HMNS's paleontology wing is amazing. I think it took me 4 hours to get through all of it. If you're ever around the Houston area, it's definitely worth a look. I think it might be the most up to date too.
Another great vid! Literally, every one I watch, I learn something awesome. Thanks Brain Scoop, I love you all.
Hooray! Glad that everything is going SO WELL for you! :) Makes me happy to see UA-camrs getting picked up by companies that WANT you to continue doing your Channel!
just watched this for the 1st time. this lovely young woman has a way about her that is really compelling. and what a mind! excellent communication skills and knowledge makes for excellent videos. Emily, if you read this, know that i'm a fan for life. love you, darlin'!
ive been to the field museum many many times, but i never knew how impressive it was until these videos. i never knew they had hidden collections or a rich history.
"To get as many people as possible excited about the incredible unlikelihood of our collective existence"
That was beautiful.
I have a membership to the Field Museum and take the kids there as often as possible. They think it's for them but really it's because I find the whole place so fascinating. Every time I go I find something new, like the New Zealand meeting house we discovered last week. I'm very excited about the China exhibit! Now I have the added excitement of possibly meeting you, Emily. I hope that happens, so that I can tell you in person how much I appreciate your quest for Awesome :)
I've been inspired to check out my university's biodiversity and anthropology museums thanks to the Brain Scoop! Thanks Emily! :)
0:53 - a plaque in Polish, wtf?
btw, it says: Trylobites, fossilized aquatic arthropod - about 400 million years, Atlas Mountains in Morocco
i really cant get enough of these videos
I love the Arthropod singers.
I NEED an arthropod 0:13 gif !
Justin Briand I NEED an arthropod ringtone!

God bless you, walkswithdragons. I'd shake your hand if I could.
+ddawn23 👊 fistbump
Michael is so great at what he does
Smiled at 0:50 seeing Polish caption under the trilobite fossils :) Anyone wondering, it says TRILOBITES - fossil marine arthropod, about 400 million years ago. Atlas Mountains - Morocco.
the outfit, and the first sentence... my favorite! love you Emily!
The Brain Scoop is awesome! Congrats on the job and welcome to Chicago!
So happy for your success, thank you for the good work!
I am so envious of you. You have the best freaking job in the world.
Awesome! Best episode since the move to Chicago!
You are my hero, okay? Emily, you really are.
ty hank green for bringing her into our lives. i lyke this format dont change.
I totally agree... but I do like the mix of both.
You're the best, Emily! Could you do some work on the artifacts conservation department at the museum? I think that's a part of the museum system that a lot of people don't get to see.
Donations. They have donation boxes usually at the entrance and exits, and you can donate online. Also people sometimes fund them, giving large amounts of money, and some are council or lottery funded.
Thats why I love living in England, all the museums are FREE!!
Great videos, thank you!
As someone that was never interested in any of the sciences and now I'm avid about expanding what I know about science and biology I'd say the hit their goal getting people interested
My favourite Brain Scoop in a while, informatively, visually/aesthetically and Emily-ly. She looks especially gorgeous in this one, wooh legs.
ARTHROPODS!!
My geology prof in college was out collecting things and found a beautiful little trilobite just sitting on a little outcrop. Then she lost her footing. She had the choice of either falling 10 feet, or dropping the fossil to grab for a handhold. She took the fall (and broke her wrist), but the trilobite was awesome!
Thanks, Emily! (And Mike and everybody else!) These videos are really fun. Now I want to visit the Field Museum!
Awesome. I just saw these exhibits this afternoon.
emily, you're the best.
Welcome to Chicago, that's awesome! I've been away too long.
looking forward to behind the scenes of a field museum
You’re brilliant!
Yay! I love everything you guys do, regardless, but I'm happy to hear this. I respect and love your awesome, informative work!
its always with the promise of cookies. that's how they get you.
but seriously welcome to Chicago!
and as for people questioning the $15, its actually kinda a great deal considering how big the field museum is and how much there is to see. I remember going when I was in high school (and getting a student discount) and spending an entire day walking around and still not seeing it all
Sweet channel! I'm so glad I found it! Yay for (natural) science!
--a social scientist
Art conservation is a good combo for art history and chemistry
wow, i really love this channel! I'm SOO glad this exists :)
Dude, someone should make a blasting techno jam with Arthropod remixed.
ARTHROPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD! -camera zooming infinities-
Come to London!! All our museums are freeee!!! I always end up donating whatever i can spare on the day though, they're that cool.
I've seen the biggest trilobite specimen in the world! It was awesome!
You're my hero. Period.
Emily is officially a role model of mine. I mean, how can she not be? She's super smart and super pretty, with just the right amount of adorkable nerdiness. :3
Emily, you and the brain scoop team are super awesome and inspiring!
We are indeed all scientists! Great and interesting answers to interesting questions. Thank you
Okay, do an entire episode on arthropods!
Those were all great questions and you are a gem.
Hello. ;)
When you said 'because my brain turned to soup' that put a big smile on my face. Also, Chil-ay!
Excellent job .answering a lot of good questions, but my favorite was the lost conversation because "my brain turned to soup".
It's been awhile since I've seen the show (oops!) and I LOVE the new opening!
Also I was giggling like a little kid at the "arthropoooood" bit. Nicely done.
I loved your answers, even though some of the questions seemed baited or illogical you answered very professionally and kept thing light and fun but to the point.
Also in the top three episodes ever
I understand that the Field museum is the main contributor to the Brian Scoop now, but I would still love to see episodes like "Horns vs. Antlers" and "De-Extinction" part one and two. Not that learning about the museum is not interesting, but I would love to see some of the raw, factual intelligence and curiosity like in those early episodes.
Youth Design Team at The Field Museum is one of those courses. 10th -12th graders, apply now! Deadline- Sep 20th. Head over to The Field Museum's website and check out what's happening at The Field for teens.
00:52 the label is in Polish!!!
Holy Moly! I've been in that exhibit! Is it weird that I nerd out just because I've been in the same place as Emily? I really wanna meet her. She's so cool!
I still watch to the end every time
Is there a possibility that you could do a series on the different positions of work available in a museum similar to the field museum and tell us about how to become that position and what that position entails? I think that would be really interesting, and helpful to people that are still trying to figure out exactly what they want to do. Thanks!
I'm an artist who has always been interested in science, or a scientist who happen to do art.
I now have a clearer idea of what I should do.
I love this channel ... just stumbled on via upworthy what a find
