  • No title. "Modern machinery has not taken this old hunter from his odd job" (there is a location on this intertitle but unreadable on this neg. Probably somewhere in New Hampshire.) M/S of a man in the open air using a small hand axe to shape a piece of wood. C/U of the wood being shaped. "Making decoy ducks entirely by hand power." M/S of a man at work shaping the ducks, they are lined up behind him. C/U of him shaping the wood. C/U of him hand carving a smaller bird. C/U of him using a hand drill to make holes for eyes in one of the wooden ducks. C/U of the duck. The craftsman pushes some glass eyes into the duck model. "And they do the job!" M/S of group of ducks on a lake. L/S of birds flying above the lake.
    Note: This is one of the"Walter Futter's Curiosities" in the Eve Pic collection - American films which it appears Pathe bought then retitled for use in the U.K. This might also be an extract from the Walter Futter film "Back Home".

    Cool little piece of history that made its way down to us.
    Its amazing what he did with hand tools. Back then his birds couldnt have been mpre than a few bucks a piece. Now one in original paint could buy you a house!

    I can help with this! This man was no other than Joe Lincoln. He is a very famous duck decoy carver from Massachusetts. His decoys have gone at auction for as much as $200,000! Here is a link to his picture: www.flickr.com/photos/boston_public_library/6153568257/
