- It's episode 370, welcome to our book report! Tune in this week to hear if either of us is psychic. We also have some stories for you: First Em takes us through the lore of the Rougarou and the origins of the werewolf as we know them today. Then Christine covers the wild and unsettling case of the murderer Malcolm Naden, one of Australia's most wanted men. And is Clifford the Big Red Dog just a dirty sinner who refused to tithe? ...and that's why we drink!
We're almost to the end of our On the Rocks tour! Don't miss our last few shows ever of this very special location. Only a few shows have tickets left! andthatswhywedrink.com/live
Since we “spring forward” today, it’s kinda like we get this week’s episode an hour earlier! 🎉
"I would like it make it gay" same Em, same
In the UK we have a show called the Repair Shop - where they (you guessed it) repair sentimental pieces whilst keeping the integrity of the original. And on an episode recently a bereaved family brought in their dining table which has all of the markings and memories with their late husband/father on it. So your sentiments are very much shared!
Love that show!!
Omg Em's growl was impressive 😂 29:24 in case anyone is interested
I also have “weird” things I want to save, I think the door thing and the table thing make sense and are very cool and awesome
Favorite podcast ❤ Love that whenever I have a question, Em or Christine asks that question *chef’s kiss*
According to my closed captioning Em’s computer was holding a sausage?! 😂
Which sausage we talkin about
About to do a 3 hour drive and I cant wait to listen to this! 🎉
I am from the south Mississippi region and grew up hearing about the rougarou in the midst of bigfoot and other cryptid-esque creatures... Not much to add other than there's a cajun restaurant in Birmingham, AL named The Rougaroux that serves incredibly good poboys and gumbo. :-D
Hi! I am one of your older listeners. I had a Kreskin’s ESP games. I had forgotten about that but I spent hours playing that. It was one of my favorites. Learned to use a pendulum from it.
When Em was talking about the baron all I was thinking about was the baron of creme
Baron of Creme? Is that the berries & creme lad? 😂
2 hour episode 🎉🖤🫶
Man, we sprang forward, so it's only an hour long for me. 😮💨
"Is his humanity in his pants" 😂😂
the childhood door idea is sooo cute !! but i don’t think my future husband would like two huge old white metal doors or an other metal door that’s spray painted red in our living room 🤣
The Untethered Soul changed my family’s life - sending 💗
Clifford grew because of all the love from Emily Elizabeth!!! Look up pictures of baby Clifford, you will not regret it. He’s so tiny 🥹
Rougarou is also a roller coaster at cedar point!
There is a song about the rougarou, that came out sorta recently! ROUGAROU (i've become the monster) by DUCKBOY. Its a sorta pop punky vibe! Christine would totally dig it! Also such a fun episode:)
Good therapy means hard work..ugh big love Christine
I just need to point this out for no one other than myself, Em covered a folklore originated in France the same Sunday I was visiting France😮
The Christine joke of "Good News..." takes me out every time. And by every time, I mean 2x but still.
Not em and Christine getting into lore about a child's show
For all my Louisiana peeps, Rougarou Festival is in Houma 😊
Civet coffee is probably too literal for the Poop Cafe concept...
we studied the werewolf poem in one of my college classes and yeah, basically, “the humanity is in his pants” was a BIG discussion point LMAO
43:16 with the harry potter thing, I don't remember anything with werewolves but I do know that Serious Black could transform into a black dog
Em! Bisclavret! I love Marie de France ❤
I reference piggy dipping way more often than I should
It infuriates me that both women could have been spared if the letters had been reported to the police and he was already in jail for the molestation
Wait by photo album is 15k and I thought that was the worst 😂😂😂
56K photos is insane, I have a little under 3K and it stresses me out bc it’s so much
So happy (:
What if people were leaving food and supplies outside their homes in hopes that they wouldn’t become victims because he didn’t need to break in
My parents took my childhood door and put it on the curb for the garbage men lol
The poop Cafe would have ended weaker friendships, but not yall 😂
Arugula with a roux?
1:47:32
Me watching this episode in two parts
Christine: Imagine she has no nose 👃🏼
Me: Voldemort ?! 👀
😂 ”is there a diarama involved?" and "poop cafe." 😂
I still have my copy of ecce romani ii 😂
So according to Em... voltermort is the descendant of some lady who cheated on a werewolf??
A love triangle with a werewolf?! 👀
cant remember exactly but i think the word lycanthropy came from a Greek king lycan who was punished for eating a person at a feast and was punished by Zeus to become a wolf.
I have 12,000 photos 😂
Ye
I forgot I lost an hour today 😭
I have 4k photos 😂😂😂
y'all are salty today LOL
Hey, it's worth keeping in mind that werewolf and lougarou stories come from indiginous and slave cultures, so citing colonialism in these stories is kind of a misattribution. It could be a componant of those cultures lost to thim that simply sits well with colonialism.
problem with this is that similar stories appear all over the world at different times. you know like the notorious slave tale Beauty and the Beast.... or the cave paintings that show human wolf hybrids being clearly colonial.... viking berserkers are simply misattributed skinwalkers. grow up and look around.
A font is not the font you spoke of. Not a type of lettering. It is sometimes called the baptismal font. Looks different in different churches. A bowl on a pedestal for example
It would be good to look up the various words before presenting the story
