Hey Clive, this was a really entertaining review of a Lithuanian Dry Food Ration. They are affordable, relatively easy to get, and quite delicious! My favorite menu is #4 - Pork with groats. The chocolate is amazing, good coffee, and the biscuits are hardy with a nice caraway seed flavor. For a single meal, they contain approx 1,400-1,500 calories.. quite filling! 10 different menus. You mention the Flameless Ration Heater looking like it was going to blow up. I had this happen one time with a Lithuanian Ration.. didn't leave a small opening on a corner of the FRH. So it blew up.. and of all places at a gun show. That was exciting. Thanks for the shoutout! And I'd love to see you explore some more military rations! This was awesome.
Hi Steve, I've ended up watching so many of your videos since discovering MREs. They're strangely fascinating and to my blue-collar taste buds quite enjoyable to eat.
"1year ago" "in case the pandemic gets real bad" .. dude.. my man.. jesus fucking christ, I mean the technical term for this is "retarded" as in "delayed". But holy fuckballs the pandemic peaked like 2 years ago already and quite frankly, it's still fucking going on, just people lost interest amongst other new shiny things.
Crazy Russian Hacker earned my disfavour when he DMCA'ed people for pointing out that suffocating yourself with dry ice is a sub-optimal way to cool your bedroom. Safety, and where you can stick it, is number one priority indeed.
He earned my disfavour when he started looking on UA-cam for popular videos and blatantly just copying them a week later. The dry ice cooler was just the cherry on the top.
Since it takes the video down , and since youtube is fucking stupid and does NOT give you strikes for abusing it . The same strikes system should work for the DMCA claim as well as the hit. But then pretty much any major publisher would get there account banned every 3 hours or so :P.
Andrew, there's a huge error in your suggestion. When you're filed against, it's your channel that gets a strike. However when you file against someone... you don't have to use the same account as the one you post content from - you don't even have to be a UA-camr, you could be someone who publishes his videos elsewhere. Also since protecting your copyright, such as by filing a DMCA is your legal right, they can't restrict it by disabling your account or preventing you from sending further DMCA requests. Having established that you can't revoke DMCA rights, say you revoke video hosting privilege for someone who has been seen DMCA abusing... but then you have a near impossibility of reliably establishing which accounts actually belong to the same person or organisation or entity, with all the ambiguity that it entails.
Reminds me of the time I misplaced my hammer while hanging a painting, thankfully I had just been handed a chunk of Dundee cake and that did the job nicely.
Watch out for Steve1989MREInfo, I find he's like the big clive of MRE tasting.. As in you look at one, then you look at the clock and find you are 8 videos and 3 hours later.. :)
I'd like to make a note for the reason the drink mix tastes "watered down," when being drunk during hiking or other long periods of exercise the high quantities of sodium and electrolytes, in particular in those drink mixes (gatorade, Powerade, and other instant "energy" powder mixes) can lead to vomiting, if mixed at "full strength" in the case of that packet 300 ml of water. Which when in the field or on a trail is never a good thing cause that leads to dehydration and other nasty things.
This is one of the things that I love so much about Clive's channel - not only is he great with the electronics but he sometimes diversifies into something totally different.
Lithuanian here. Kiaulienos troškinys su daržovėmis is "Pork stew with vegetables". About the heating pack - we dont fold and close it, so steam can escape without any problems, then there is no "explosion risk" :)
At least in the U.S. Military; MRE does mean, Meal Ready to Eat. Have eaten many, and the cases say "Meals Ready to Eat". The Flame-less Ration Heater, contains: powdered magnesium metal, alloyed with a small amount of iron, and table salt. Clive it also releases large amounts of Hydrogen! I was scared when you were lighting the match! U.S. Patent 5,611,329 uses a powdered magnesium-iron alloy, consisting of 95 % magnesium and 5 % iron by weight, and discloses a heater consisting of 7.5 grams of this alloy, and 0.5 grams of salt. Upon adding 30 milliliters of water, this mixture can heat a 230 gram meal packet by 100 °F in about 10 minutes, releasing approximately 50 kilojoules of heat energy at about 80 watts.
Timothy Sherratt Yeah, apparently the small amount of iron, and the salt (water), accelerate the oxidation. It was described, in the patent, as creating a micro-battery.
This is so good, I came to your channel from watching MRE reviewers as you were unboxing electronics rather than MREs but now you're doing both and I love it. Keep it up Clive!
I saw the thumbnail and thought it was a new video from Steve1989 and then realized it was Big Clive. I love trying out MREs from various countries, it's kinda like an international food festival in your own home. Everyone should keep a few MRE's on hand for emergency use.
At 15:10, Big Clive declares "a hint of sausageness", I then promptly spit out my beer laughing at his superb dry sense of humour! Keep them coming Clive, you brighten up my day!
Glad to see you doing these Clive. Very interesting! I have been watching Steve for about a year and a half. It's amazing how much that guy knows about MRE's.
Interestingly in Australia, creamer is not a thing, we just use milk and when I visited California, they only use creamer and people told me that using milk was strange.
The "Cooking with Big Clive" ones are the best! For example - ua-cam.com/video/hbD-65UfnrQ/v-deo.html - Instant blue-collar trash chocolate cake. (In four minutes.)
A US Army Infantry Colonel told me MRE = Meals Rejected by Ethiopians.... a direct reference to the Ethiopian famine and the lack of palatability. Clive, you have the *best* meal ration reviews of all those I've encountered.
Dammit Clive! I was screaming at the screen "Turn that bag full of boiling water and steam away from your body!!!" But you didn't hear me! And the cable tie is for sealing your lips together after you've eaten it so that you don't vomit it straight back up again. Obviously.
If they are not too expensive, it would be handy to have a few packed for camping as a backup when all else fails. This makes me curious to open the sealed can of "Lifeboat Rations" I have from the RMS Queen Mary, which is likely 60 to 80 years old.
Since Clive's UK based, he'll be able to buy this sort of thing from most "serious" Outdoor / Camping shops (such as the Scout Shop chain). Their range of self-heating tins was pretty good (20 years ago when I lived there!)
There were lifeboat rations that contained benzedrine tablets - maybe you've got one! Apparently quite rare these days, intact at least. They were to be distributed by the officer in charge to keep spirits up in dire times. Can't think of much worse than being amped up on benzedrine trapped on a lifeboat but I suppose it'd keep you busy.
Now I am going to have to dig through my Queen Mary stuff and find the brass(?) rectangular can and see if has any details of the contents on the outside. Someone told me years ago they had opened one and it contained bland biscuits, but not all were the same from all years.

It is interesting to see that there isn't much difference in the ones from different geographic locations as well as how little they have changed over these last twenty years.

Food tasting, survivalism (except when he goes into BigBoom territory), React videos (Trademarked the brothers), electronics (old school), gaming videos (PUBG), make up how to videos, make up removal how to videos, shaving videos and news. I am sure the Big brand can handle such a broad range of videos. A joint venture with Mr. May, the Mazon Gear nob, could go down in history.
We get cases of MREs just about every year when a hurricane shuts off our electricity and water for weeks at a time. Maybe it's just because we get them so often, but I kind of like them. Simple, easy to prepare, and with a decent amount of variety. Still got a few cases from last year. Saving them for the zombie apocalypse...
steve1989mreinfo here in youtube is one of the best mre reviewers, past and present rations and their contents! also in the military we call them Mr.E's ( or mysterys )
In the german MRE (there called EPA, Einmannpackung literally single-man package) you've got two hot meals, instant coffee, tea, cold drinks, dark chocolate, chewing gum, some paper towel, hard biscuits, bread, jam, cheese, sausage, sugar, salt, pepper, water treatment tablets, matches and a snack like semolina pudding or a fruit salad. We've called the hard biscuits "Panzerplatten" (armor plates). The instant coffee was so bad it was called the "german neutronbomb": Human dies, the cup remains intact.
It's not best it's actually the worst instant coffee. And the german neutron bomb thing is common speech here. The Bundeswehr was a conscription army so a lot of people tried this. Nescafe is much better than this dishwater. I've never tried the tea, but the cold drinks weren't that bad.
My grandfather emigrated to New Zealand after WW2, from Lithuania. From what little he told us of the war, I'll bet that MRE would have been one hell of a treat.
When I was a lorry driver, I used to collect / deliver these types of ration packs. for UK and other nations Army's from a packing factory in Kent :) and one place i used to deliver to they had a mini museum of ration packs from different era's. it was quite interesting.
Little stirring tip, when you're stirring, stirring side to side while moving your hand in a perpendicular direction back and forth is more effective generally than the swirling motion, because it doesn't product a vortex.
Noticed on my phone that BC had a new video out, but went to the computer for a bigger screen and speakers. Sees Lithuanian NRE ... and immediately files a Steve video away to look at after BC. Can't find BC's new video, curses YT for not getting into Subscriptions, and goes to BC's channel page and finds "Steve's" video. Hopelessly confused... :-/
The plastic bag you used to heat the meal is called a FRH, or Flame-less Ration Heater. As for the long handled spoons from £land, I use them as teaspoons, because I have a tall mug.
I would use the energy escaping from the heating pack. Set it up in such a way that the LED turns off when the meal gets down to a temperature allowing safe ingestion.
If you have access to a heat-sealer it is pretty simple (and highly cost-effective) to pack your own. That way you can chose what you like, and even go for seasonal variations.
Ashens tested one which had some astonishingly good quality food in it. Possibly the first video of his I've seen where he was not revolted by the food he was testing. Your pack looked excellent. Nice one.
In Norway we call them RSP. That stands for "Reservestridsproviant", translated to English it means "Reserve Combat Provisioning", but we also have another more fun name for them in Norwegian "Rester av Sprengt Personell" that translates to "remnants of blasted personnel" and was more describing on how the old RSP in Norway was. :) Today we have a more modern company that makes dried freezed meals where you just add hot water, stir and let it sit for a few minutes. You can also buy the same type of meals in sports outlets where those meals are made for hikers. I like them a lot. And they come in several different flavors.
MREs usually have dark chocolate in them. This is because dark chocolate is very nutritious and has several health benefits. So, yeah, if you want to keep your soldiers going as good as possible, you better put in dark chocolate rather then milk chocolate, which is mostly just sugar.
Only the older ones were white(and a bit short).. They switched over to the brown ones, which were also longer, which made it easier to get to the bottom of the packets. And they are indeed very strong.
So, who is used to watching ration reviews and when Clive put the FRH in the box and pointed it at himself, thought to themselves "You sir have 45seconds till you become extremely alarmed...." and then when it really gets going, Clives reaction. I friggin lost it!!! HAHAHAHAH!!! I laughed so friggin hard!!! This is awesome!! :-D I really needed this video tonight too.
6:55 My heart skipped a beat... HE IS LIGHTING MATCHES NEXT TO A HYDROGEN VENT. I play with MRE heaters to make exploding balloons and stuff, in a controlled environment... not like this.
Just as I finally quit my @Steve1989MREInfo video addiction you go and put out a damn MRE-review video of your own. Now I have to go spend a few hours watching people eat MREs...
Best big C video ever. When I was in Somalia got my hands on a Italian module e label white the Italians have the best combat rations. Came with a brandy liquor shot! Was Damon good.
The heating pads are usually domething like iron oxide (iron III?). Not usually something terrible. I keep 30 days worth of MRE's as a emergency food store.
Great video Clive ,I'm lucky to live near Kidderminster military and they stock loads of odd MREs I deff recommend the French kits they taste fantastic

WoW, Big Clive doing MREs it just keeps getting better all the time.
I thought I was on Steve's channel when I clicked on this, then I heard your voice. :P
If you have access to a heat-sealer it is pretty simple (and highly cost-effective) to pack your own. That way you can chose what you like, and even go for seasonal variations.
now the my youtube subscription inbox has come full circle
i've been watching this channel for over a year now and i'm lithuanian, i did not expect this video.
I heard that as lithium army MRE
Fits well with what happens to the main course
Wow, must be such a bipolar army... then again, it's Lithuanian, right? I wouldn't be surprised, depression runs in their blood.
That must be why the magnesium heater thing swelled up like a battery
When you follow the instructions, you are actually shorting out a lithium battery pack to heat your meal
Ashens tested one which had some astonishingly good quality food in it. Possibly the first video of his I've seen where he was not revolted by the food he was testing. Your pack looked excellent. Nice one.
Shout out to Steve.
Get it out on a tray......
Nice
In Norway we call them RSP. That stands for "Reservestridsproviant", translated to English it means "Reserve Combat Provisioning", but we also have another more fun name for them in Norwegian "Rester av Sprengt Personell" that translates to "remnants of blasted personnel" and was more describing on how the old RSP in Norway was. :)
Today we have a more modern company that makes dried freezed meals where you just add hot water, stir and let it sit for a few minutes.
Also, yeah, you should do more of these.
Also, dark chocolate holds up better in a MRE.
Melts less easily, less fat, so they don't go bad as quickly.
M. K. True, forgot to add that xP
That mug is brilliant. Those specific biscuits you have there, are commonly referred to by members of the community as: "tank treads".
Us military mre brown spoons are best mre spoons
Proper MRE spoons are brown.
Only the older ones were white(and a bit short)..
They switched over to the brown ones, which were also longer, which made it easier to get to the bottom of the packets.
And they are indeed very strong.
They are heavy duty.
I *LOVE* MRE's. I've had them in my backyard, on hikes, and at work. I might have one this week at work as well. I hope you do more of them!
A bachelor bowl. Nice :)
You're such a trooper Clive, you'd make a great prepper.
The pie dish would have been perfect
Seeing how hot that package was getting, "explosion containment" might have been a wise choice!
Awesome review - make sure to try more from around the world
Lets get it on a tray, nice 😊
So, who is used to watching ration reviews and when Clive put the FRH in the box and pointed it at himself, thought to themselves "You sir have 45seconds till you become extremely alarmed...." and then when it really gets going, Clives reaction. I friggin lost it!!! HAHAHAHAH!!! I laughed so friggin hard!!! This is awesome!! :-D I really needed this video tonight too.
I LOVE that mug! 😂
When your use to the heating element puffing up like that because you watch way to many MRE and Ration reviews lol
6:55 My heart skipped a beat... HE IS LIGHTING MATCHES NEXT TO A HYDROGEN VENT. I play with MRE heaters to make exploding balloons and stuff, in a controlled environment... not like this.
I'f I'd known it was liberating hydrogen I'd have tried lighting it at the risk of a hot food explosion.
OMG the .006 PPM of hydrogen next the vent could have put out his match! A frightful ordeal indeed!
Yawn.
Clive I can tell you enjoyed making this video! Like you doing MRE reviews, very good
the almondy smell is cyanide lol
The Lithuanian ration is a good choice to review. You can't go wrong with the Lithuanian mre. New subscriber here.
Labas
Sveiki
Labas vakaras. Matau, kad nemiegat.
sul sul er Sveiki! 😊
Sveiki.
Labą, vakarą ;)
Just as I finally quit my @Steve1989MREInfo video addiction you go and put out a damn MRE-review video of your own.
Now I have to go spend a few hours watching people eat MREs...
Nom Nom Nom!
The plutonium radiation ration heater is clearly the safer alternative.
One disciple snorting cocaine off the table makes the Concept of the WHOLE BOOK a bit more *plausible*
Nooo...Even less plausible! Cocaine is from the Americas :p
Kew Akl
I need to find that mug
Gotta be honest here, I didn't look at who made the video and though I was gonna watch a Steve1989MREinfo video. Boy was I surprised when you spoke xD
Whats next. Bigclive playing Overwatch.
No hiss btw
Ventus ... This needs to happen now. I wonder what his Reinhardt impression would sound like
Best big C video ever. When I was in Somalia got my hands on a Italian module e label white the Italians have the best combat rations. Came with a brandy liquor shot! Was Damon good.
Not sure if buying MREs out Ebay is a good idea, but then again steve eats stuff 50-70 years old and he is still fine.
The heating pads are usually domething like iron oxide (iron III?).
Not usually something terrible.
I keep 30 days worth of MRE's as a emergency food store.
MRE: Meal Rejected by the Enemy.
Great video Clive ,I'm lucky to live near Kidderminster military and they stock loads of odd MREs I deff recommend the French kits they taste fantastic
in the really old packets you get cigarettes and amphetamine 😌
Actually, you would not find Amphetamines in a MRE, at least in most countries-more likely in a survival ration...
M. K. yes, i think it’s the vietnam airforce packs, not certain.
Wow, mharris1270, tell us how you really feel.
72 pitchforks up a small hole, how big are these pitchforks? They would have to be very small.
bigclive mre info is my favorite channel
