Watching your videos makes me want to leave the Midwest so I can plant a epic garden too 😫 Love how the garden is looking! Going to use your advice to get a little bed built here once the weather gets better
Oh my goodness your new bench! Love, love, love it! Family is everything and comes first! It shows in your new book video with your grandma and your golden beet video with your Mom. I can just imagine they are both so proud of you! Yes I am a Mom too. ;o)
We just got a steal...local landscaping company was cleaning out last years mulch piles. Got five dumps for $20 🤩 The garden looks soooo clean and beautiful
Love so much about this brief video!! The load of compost, the straw hat, the huge bed, the bench, and the bloom 🥰 Good luck to you in the garden! And thank you for showing us all how you keep on growing ❤️
Amazing garden! Love your progress. Motivates me to keep learning and improving mine. I am starting 6 new beds this year! 😲 May have bitten off more than I can chew but will learn a lot I am sure.
Love seeing the work on your homestead man! My girl and I are doing the same thing up in the IE (zone 9B). Just getting started and have a construction project going on so we are growing in pots currently. How have your plants been handling the swing in weather and temp? On the 24 when you dropped this video it was a beautiful 72 degrees and sunny, last two days have been rainy and cold up here reaching down in the 30s some nights. I know it doesnt get as cold at your place but its been cooler, how have your plants been doing?
Tomatoes galore! The progress is exciting and i would totally love a video on your seedling table, im super curious about it cuz i havent seen a table with this style before!
Looking awesome! Excited to see at the start of summer how much has grown. Then midsummer, and then end of summer. I’m sure the transformation will be phenomenal!
I'd like to see a video on the seedling table please. Also, I don't know if you've decided on the peppers you're growing yet, but can I suggest you plant extra jalapeño and wait for them to ripen (takes a while). They taste so much nicer than the green jalapeños everyone is used to.
It's all coming together. We used to have flowering plums and when they flowered that was an indicator the last frost was over and it was time to plant the spring crop. It'll be nice to kick back and relax on the bench and look at everything you've done.
Dude so freaking awesome. Not to go Dad again but shoes young man when using tools. Hey did you ever contact the utility company about that old pole? Quite jealous here in Pittsburgh......
Lol, think I saw that truck being loaded. Hubby and I have been hand loading bins the last couple week or so out at Miramar. Wish we had a truck, but our bins work without much mess just a lot of work. Compost looks and feels great. Wow everything looks amazing on your homestead!
Great work with the Epic Homestead Kevin. Hope you are good, since you have worked a ton on the homestead. Keep on with the Epic work and keep on growing.
Can you grow directly in the compost? It looks like you mixed the native soil into the compost, what ratio would you say it was mixed? How long are you letting it age before planting? Can you mix compost with native soil and use in a grow bag? What else would you need to add to use in grow bags or is it not a good application? I live 2 miles away from Miramar greenery. Thanks in advance.
The Epic Homestead is really taking shape. You can produce so much in that area. Have you found chickens yet? If you raise chickens for meat, I recommend Cornish X. There are other meat birds; but, when you calculate the cost of feed to market weight, Cornish X really can't be beat. If you just want the chickens for egg laying, there are many good breeds from which you can choose. What's your favorite way to preserve what you produce?
That back garden is starting to look lovely! Personally I love a wooden framed garden bed look to the completely open look - but since I currently have a courtyard.... I don’t get to have either 😩! Keep up the progress!!
Speaking of peppers, i finally got some jalapeños, purple maui and carolina reaper germinated. Guess the fall weather where i am suits them better than summer. You can also make wheat beer when your crop's bigger.
love it! i love to grow tomatoes and peppers! it will be awesome to see a lot of them in the garden. you have such a huge space! its hard work but so worth it! 🪴🪴😊
Thanks for sharing this with us! You are so lucky to find compost so easily! And good luck with the Bermuda, unfortunately if you do not watch it as a hawk it will always come back
Kevin, you look like a summer super star with your shorts, hat and shades!!! Love your new beds and plantings. Makes me wish I lived in Ca instead of in CO at 8600' with a winter storm warning for the next three days....
You should also pepper in some carrots next to those tomatoes just to see if they do good in that bed. Besides, "carrots love tomatoes" so they would be good companions👍
Can watch your videos over and over again..love your new place but feel somewhat homesick from your previous epic garden 🤭 when you get time could you please do a video on hose fittings and your opinions on them? I assume you have come across many.
It is now 12:49am. started watching this then pause it and went out to my new garden expansion and started moving compost by the light of the moon. Shift work and garden passion will have your neighbors quite suspicious.....hahahaha I hope they are used to me by now, they should be. My grandparents bought the 3/4 acre property and house in 1968 for around $17,000.....(I know Right!!!!!! What is Life?!!!!!) that info on price is irrelevant but I just thought it was shocking),...... so I have been up to my shenanigans around here for a bit. Anyway. Keep up the good work! And remember.... anytime is a good time to do what you feel. Just be mindful of your decibels. Take care.
Looks awesome. Wondering about water basin project is going to be located. Also, Oregon doesn’t have free compost- but municipal compost can be had for 25$ a yard AND it seasoned, so direct use is ok.
Oh, this one makes me super excited! I can't wait to see how your Sweetheart Cherry Tomatoes do. I'm going lower and lean with my tomatoes this year. First time trying it.
One of the squirrels stole a habanero from someone elses yard and took a few bites of it and left it....I cant imagine it was pleasant kinda felt like karma tho since they ate all my cosmos recently.
@@locusttreegarden1560 lol I wish there was just one squirrel, no a whole family of squirrels or maybe multiple families live in my backyard and prefer to eat anything I'm trying to grow. They won't eat the neighbor's acorns but they'll eat 6 whole cosmos, flowers, leaves, and even most of the stem. I hate these squirrels
The epic homestead is coming together beautifully!! I can’t wait to see the different style trellises for the tomatoes, here in Northern California, I have put my tomatoes in, early girl, better boy, sweet 100’s and sun gold cherry tomatoes. I haven’t stacked any yet for they are still very young and small so I will see what you do and hopefully get some ideas! Happy gardening!
Can't wait to hear how the wheat turns out, its oat planting time here in oz but i don't know if i will bother planting any this year. Still trying to clear grass and trees so I would probably walk all over them when i habve more room next year maybe
Looking really good!!!!! I just got a chipdrop delivery on Monday. There's a huge pile in front of my house. Yayy. Now I need to hunt for free compost.
Here in Calgary canada we only get fee compost once a year and it's always two weekends in May when most of our summer gardens are going in. I wish we could get all year round and as much as we want. Your homestead is looking good keep up the good work.
Homestead is looking great, I bit jealous im in Illinois and am just about to start my seedlings indoors. Keep up the great work. You are an inspiration to us all
So nice that you're planting the tomatoes and peppers already. Here it's waaay too cold yet, but I can't wait to get them out of the seed pots. I do think you probably should have don 2 narrower beds to not disturb it in the middle when walking through... but it will probably be fine as is. Good luck Kevin it looks amazing! Can't wait for my garden to get that green :)
Everything we grow starts with good soil. I paid way too much money for my organic soil from a nursery when we bought a new home. I was afraid to use the municipal landfill sources because of my fear of contaminants that people may have used. Do they have strict laws in California so that you can be sure it is actually organic soil free of contaminants?
I see those in-ground beds and wonder where in San Diego you are that you DON’T have a massive gopher problem to deal with. We are infested in my Clairemint neighborhood, and had 2 of my new citrus trees destroyed by them (tops completely chewed off!) and tomato plants disappear overnight. Buggers Won’t fall for traps and smoke bombs seem to not phase them.
Yes do a vid on the seedling table!
Will do!
"If you want the video". No thank you Kevin, we're not interested in gardening 😄
Looking forward to it :-)
Please do make a video on the seedling table! Everything looks fantastic. It’s really starting to come together back there.
Seconded!
Of course we want that video. Do you have to ask ? 😆☺️
Seedling table looks great, would love to know the plans/dimensions so I could build one myself.
Agreed!
Hope you take some time to rest on that bench and SAVOR the gorgeous view! Thanks for including us all on this Epic journey. 💚
Where did you get the bench?
I never did research on free compost in my area and the Homestead is coming along nicely 🪴Happy Gardening!!🪴

You're such a fortunate man to have found that home :) The yard is wonderful.
The bench looks relaxing and your big bed looks great

Amazing garden! Love your progress. Motivates me to keep learning and improving mine. I am starting 6 new beds this year! 😲 May have bitten off more than I can chew but will learn a lot I am sure.
I love your garden set up! Inspiring!!
Looks great! Would love to see a video on the new seed starting area!
Coming soon!

I have contacted, but they're SLOW
What a fantastic job you guys did! I bet you slept well that night! Nothing better than an accomplished day in the garden😊.
I'd like to see a version of the three sisters bed
I am so happy for you. A load of black gold. Every gardene's dream.
I’m so jealous of all this beautiful compost 😍

My god the view at 5:56! It's all coming along so nicely
Great work with the Epic Homestead Kevin. Hope you are good, since you have worked a ton on the homestead. Keep on with the Epic work and keep on growing.
Consider using a trench to stop the spread of the weeds. Clean the trench every few weeks.
Yes, want a seedling table vid! The new bed looks gorgeous- cant wait to see it growing
Have been waiting on this one for a while, I saw your garden on Instagram, looking so good Kevin!
Thanks 👍
The 'plant daddy' T-shirt though! Haha awesome

id be a cute idea to have a little perennial or seasonal flower garden to bring in a lot of the pollinators and have some nice colors c:

Working on the chickens...coming in maybe 2 months or so! I typically do quick pickles on my produce

Omg it looks so good! I am so enjoying watching your property transform. Keep ‘em coming! 😃
UMMMM DUH‼ Yes Please on the seedling table video .😊
“Take a look...at just how tidy that looks”. You’re the Charles Phoenix of gardening! Just add an “I knowwww” at the end. Looks fabulous!
Have you met your neighbors? Are they interested in what you're doing? Your yard/garden is awesome! I'd love to be your neighbor.
Most are, yes!
love it! i love to grow tomatoes and peppers! it will be awesome to see a lot of them in the garden. you have such a huge space! its hard work but so worth it! 🪴🪴😊
Can’t wait to see how your wheat turns out. I’d love to grow my own bread someday too.
I’m so happy you’re growing wheat to make bread I’ve always wanted to do that
Thanks for sharing this with us! You are so lucky to find compost so easily! And good luck with the Bermuda, unfortunately if you do not watch it as a hawk it will always come back
It's looking so good! Don't forget sunflowers, they're great for detoxing soil, pollination, seeds and just look epic! 🌻
Have some in the front yard!
Kevin, you look like a summer super star with your shorts, hat and shades!!! Love your new beds and plantings. Makes me wish I lived in Ca instead of in CO at 8600' with a winter storm warning for the next three days....
The homestead is coming together real nice! I get a bit jealous each video haha
This garden is looking so good! The little peppers and tomatoes look so healthy :)
You should also pepper in some carrots next to those tomatoes just to see if they do good in that bed. Besides, "carrots love tomatoes" so they would be good companions👍
Thanks for the tips!
Shout-out to the new shed making a cameo!
I've been working on a trench since like a week ago and it's in the back of my garden!!!
Can watch your videos over and over again..love your new place but feel somewhat homesick from your previous epic garden 🤭 when you get time could you please do a video on hose fittings and your opinions on them? I assume you have come across many.
I’d love it if you linked to Garden Answer’s video on how to build the table! Share the love and share the community!
backyard is looking so good already after such a short amount of time!

Having a free source of good compost is so awesome for you. I will have to look again. Last year I couldn’t find any free compost.
Your garden has come a long way! Looks great.
Looks awesome. Wondering about water basin project is going to be located. Also, Oregon doesn’t have free compost- but municipal compost can be had for 25$ a yard AND it seasoned, so direct use is ok.
I see you rocking the tried and true tsinelas! respect. congrats on the new expansion!
Love your beautiful gardens, so tidy. The new bed is so wide I’m wanting to split it down the middle with a pathway so you don’t have to step on it.
Oh, this one makes me super excited! I can't wait to see how your Sweetheart Cherry Tomatoes do. I'm going lower and lean with my tomatoes this year. First time trying it.
I would’ve rented a mini dozer from Home Depot to move that much mulch. It’s totally worth it.

Those are some persistent squurels, what if you olant an abhndance of Cosmis? Maybe they will get tired of eating it 🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼
@@locusttreegarden1560 lmao i doubt it, ill be trying a hot sauce spray on various plants to hopefully keep them from eating them
Im so glad you have a cameraman! I wish we had organic compost delivery. I pd $14 a 1.5 cu.yd. from espoma....not the optimal choice!
I can't wait til my local compost facility opens next month! Nothing like free!!
April 1 here!!

That's nice FREE compost!
Looking really good! I super excited to see the progress you're making.
dear universe. please bless me with my garden
I'm wondering what you're going to do with all those tomatoes once they all mature, sauce? Preserves? Give away? Thanks Kevin!
Everything
ALLLLLL THE THINGSSSS
Achacha tree is what you need
Omg looking awesome. So exciting new beginnings
It's looking amazing! Kudos!
That is a crisp bed!
Bermuda is the bane of my existence! Have you done a video on how you deal with it?
Looking really good!!!!! I just got a chipdrop delivery on Monday. There's a huge pile in front of my house. Yayy. Now I need to hunt for free compost.
Nice pickup!
I bought your grow bag gardening book and it came today. Very excited to read it!
Hope you enjoy it!

In my community in the netherlands its the same, except last year and this year the free compost day is cancelled due to c19 😒
I enjoyed that.
Your town's compost is much better than my town's. My town's compost is full of glass and plastic.

It looks great Kevin! I feel so inspired with gardening this year but it’s my first year so I only have tomatoes and some herbs. But it’s only spring!
You can do it!
I love Momotaro for its flavor. Wonder how the Momotaro gold tastes.
I grew Amethyst Cream last year. Very productive, and quite tasty.
