Even these slower songs are technically very advanced.
They make it look so easy, one tends to overlook how difficult the compositions are.

I think Time is the best from them, but i respect others opinions ❤️🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴👌🏼 The vocalist is a multi talented musician. He produces, writes and can play every instrument for his band, eccept for drums , and sings like a unicorn 🙈😃👌🏼🇳🇴🇳🇴
Some truly great songs from Wintersun are Starchild, Death and the healing and Loneliness. You guys should check those out aswell !!
The singer is doing everything, composes every note(except drums?) and i think I read somewhere that he did all the mixing on these too...
I think he does both mixing and drums, or at least a basic blueprint that the drummer can work off of. Jari is a genius!

For an interesting different take on this song, check out the cover by Xanthochroid. It's a haunting acoustic version done as a folk song. The Wintersun guys really liked it.

The lead singer is good with guitar, and with many other instruments - because the whole Wintersun was first just his private project. So he has the sense how to orchestrate the instruments as we hear them - I'd guess then the it's the same with vocals. Whoever mixes them when they play, has to get his approval then :) His project nudged forward to a band formation when he showed his material to Kai the drummer, and he liked it. So I guess Kai has himself to blame for the drum parts in The Sons of Winter and Stars, hah! Early years there were short time members in the band, now the others have been along quite a long time. Well, except now since 2015 Kai has been drumming more with Nightwish - don't know how often he meets Wintersun. But Wiki page about them is nicely informative.
Swallow the Sun is an amazing band as well, Kai Hahto used to drum for them too btw :D From their new album, Firelights is one of my favorites!
Just imagine that all of the instruments and Lyrics besides the drums are composed and written by Jari himself :) On the Albums all instruments besides the drums are played by Jari!
And yes..even the mastering of this rehearsels are made by Jari himself xD

Yeah, the singer can play some guitar too. He fasically made the songs ready on his own before showing the tape too the drummer.
About the compositions: they are full of surprises, yet so much familiarity also (most phrases doubled for one ... and two), that you get many satisfactory moments from both.

Hey Wolf Hunterz. I'm curious, when you see musicians and singers who are much better than you, does it discourage you, or does it make you work harder to reach the next level? One of my band mates once tossed his guitars across the room after seeing the guitarist in a rival band play. I didn't stay in that band for long. I'm not a fan of egos. Personally I love watching players who's better than me. I learn what i can from them and try to work what I learned into my own playing style. Much luv and respect. Love the channel.

Just an excellent group of real musicians making excellent music in the studio, but they are great LIVE. Wonder why Nightwish went after this drummer?? Try any of the 4 season songs next to get the total Wintersun impact. Nice reaction as always.

Guys, does the term " answer to a young maiden's prayers" mean anything to you? Because this is so full of over the top drama and despair. Like Time. It's gut wrenching. It's down right EMO!!! And Kai just smiles cheerfully through it all. I don't think he's actually heard the lyrics.
In case you're wondering, like the other Pump Station work, it gets a HELL YEAH from me.
Well, they are from Finland and we do have a long, some might say even ancient, singing tradition that leans heavily into melancholic subjects. Partly for that reason, I think, I don't personally feel that the song is overly dramatic nor do I feel that it's representing despair. It's more of a song about longing, and especially in the Time, some sens acceptance that some things are just, not ours to decide.
