For those who didn't try it out, voice leading power chords sounds also great! For example, c5( cgc) to f5 (CFC)

And I realize he”s keeping it simple in the video. But plenty of options with power chords. If you think of M and m 7th chords as 2 power chords. You can try a CG or C#G# over A in the bass. Partial Am7,AM7 or even EB (A9 or sus2)or AD(Asus4) over E in the bass. Also DG ,

Heh... as someone who has sung bass and tenor (I'm a baritone), I never thought about how much the bass jumps around. Octave leaps, no big whoop... oh, who snuck that 10th interval leap in there? No sweat. I might pay more attention to that in choral works.

keep going you're on the good way.
you'll grow out of it eventually, I hate that clunky software now. just a 15 months ago now things improve quickly you will see.
every step is a needed step to get where you will end up going. or also in your style maybe that is more than enough for what you need and you can be satisfied with that forever, i dont know.
I use 3 composition software in addition to ableton, they all have their uses & their major limitations / problems. I am still not proficient enough theorywise in a DAW alone like avicii was. The only proper software for composition to get there would be MuseScore but i'm not there yet (sight reading ability lacking) & most people don't get there. otherwise it's best to do it in the DAW or record manually from an instrument input.
Software isn't the solution tough, learning structure & mastering the basics in real depth is where it's at. people brush over too quickly when they learn something basic thinking there is not more that can be learned by digging deep into a topic. we liv in the fast food age of information. but anything you learn quickly, there are probably a few 500 pages books written extensively about this subject.
most of the great music of history was written with pen & paper.
people may not do music you like simply because they don't have YOUR unique tastemaking ability. if you learn the proper knowledge & apply it with your own taste it will be 100x better than any artificial intelligence.
Learning theory on a piano is very useful, but it's a long marathon & not as "sexy" & kind of boring but it is PROVEN. but you can get there with small improvements every few weeks. start with learning 1 scale melodically, then scales then 5 then 7 then 12, then learn the modes, etc. Learn on a piano with enough keys to play voicing spreads & double octave bass.
What's boring to learn or do is an hidden opportunity because it's an obstacle majority of people will abandon so when you do it it separates you from the rest. Look at what the best schools teach (composition, songwriting) & find the ressources to learn it yourself. you'll be more creative than the students who take these "ready to eat" classes" and you will develop signature techniques you like doing.
in 5 days it's incredible how much you can learn, then overtime in 2 years you will have done 30 times 5 day sprints with rest in between to practice & apply your knowledge and one day you will laugh at these "software solution".

Interesting! I had assumed that the bass would typically play the same bass notes as the guitar, so if the guitar plays C followed by F/C, the bass would play C under it both times.

jacob collier.. but personnally I don't find this appealing at all. unless you are a rare cognitively gifted genius or music elite snob that pretends to love music that others don't like.
historically we had rhythms for millions of years for our brains to adapt. harmony has only been introduced in the last thousand years.
rhythmic complexity is much more visceral & has a simplistic appeal to it for the general population.
harmonic complexity happens fast & most people don't process it fully. in the charts you will see people try successfully some rhythm complexity to a certain degree, but harmonically it's often more simple.
Because when it gets complex it takes away from the melody & muddy the water of the music experience (in my musically cognitively limited opinion).

Nice. I'd recommend Absolute Fretboard Trainer Pro, as a learning tool I've found useful. Also 'PAD' Guitar chord charts, which shows guitar dot patterns as measures of the actual notes. www.virtuar.com/guitar/book_0_1.htm
Those two have really helped me tackle the fretboard, and help with writing.

I'm only commenting because I'm a huge fan of this channel so I should give my feedback... this video should have been titled (basic) or (for beginners) because to be honest I feel like I wasted 10 mins of my time and this rarely happens when watching you guys. So next time plz point out the level of the content so I can skip instead of wasting time, which if that happens frequent, people stop watching your content.

@@Holistic-songwriting also I waited around 2 months for this, because the part 1 was pretty good and gave me great insight on focusing on the melody and the bass, simplifying things. I kept checking part 2 and 3 and it was more technical and things I find very basic, so they were not unique like the first one.
What I mean is this format of separating the video in 3 parts with 2 months in between releases raised a lot my expectations, then noticing they're not as great as I thought (to me) really bummed me as a viewer and makes me not anticipate your videos that much anymore.
Just telling my experience as a "customer", I appreciate your work and learned a lot from the "How ____ Writes a Melody" series.
