Easiest way to get ascended backpeice, 1 accessory and both rings is to farm winterberries in the bitterfrost frontier. You can farm on average 50 berries a day per charcter with no limit This means if you have 8 characters, you can earn 400 berries a day. Each run takes about 5-8 mins depending if you have mounts etc. The trinkets cost the following amount of berries: Rings - 200 berries each Backpack - 400 berries Accessory - 300 berries Boom thats 4 of the 5 trinkets already done. The amulet can be acquired from almost all of the LW season 3 vendors and i recomend getting the other accessory in Bjora marches using eternal ice shards. If memory serves, you can purchase 1 for 375 shards which takes very little time to farm. Note that by using this method i mentioned, you can choose any stat combination you want for these trinkets, you aren't limited like if you buy them with laurels. Your welcome xD
In Bjora you can get both amulets and accessories and it sure is the way to go about them. If you park 3 alts at 3 big chests you'll get thousands upon thousands of ice shards. Which is very useful since you can buy LS4e6 motes for them and get free selectable starts rings and 2nd accessories to boot. Now all you need is a 2nd ring and a backpack. And that's what I'd spend LS3 currencies such as berries and orrian pearls for. But then again, I was gearing like 20 builds across 9 characters, so if you aren't that mental there's probably no need to optimize it this much.
And if you have access to Bloodstone Fen, you can get the blood ruby ascended trinkets (amulet, backpack, rings), wich are by far superior 'cause you can swap their stats by just spending 100 unbound magic for an item called "bloodstone capacitator":)

Just buy the same ring and then attune it, so you can equip it too. If you want to play T4 fractals where you need to attune and infuse both rings, you can simply buy 1 ring on dragonfall(With Mistborn motes) and the other on sandswept isle(with deflourite crystals). You can earn both map currency’s easy through eternal iceshards(bjora marches) or just farm it on the related map directly.
After you finish HoT, there is a quest to reforge the shattered Caladbolg. It's fairly easy and fast to complete and rewards you with an ascended weapon. (GS, sword, dagger, shield or scepter.. if I am not missing any choice.) With this method I had my first ascended weapon in a few days after I hit 80. I found out a lot of guildmates and people that play the game for a long time missed this, as it's a hidden achievement. It's an amazing alternative for new players who want to get their weapon as fast as possible.
The first POF Raise the Banners ascended backpack is VERY easy to get. I got mine in 2h after finding out about it. After completing the POF story it’s a collection achievement that involves fighting bounties and opening chests.
Since you talked about tanked pvp, you can get an ascended backpack from pvp, just buy all 4 wings and throw them in the mystic toilet and you get your ascended back piece. It also serves as a precursor for The Ascension. Great video nonetheless :)
Wow one of the best videos so far about it! I got a Mace from Fractals a loooong time ago, and never got anything else (never tried anyways), now I know what to do with my 500 Laurels and how to get other ascended weapons easily
learning you could swap trinkets just now made my day. My first character i was going to level was a weaver, but i was getting more or less frustrated that they were the FULL GLASS cannons. I recently swapped to Reaper, and i was about to grind out for the ascended rings again and spend more laurels on basically the same ascended gear. Im glad that i can use those currency's somewhere else!
i would like to point out, you can start raiding in exotic gear, there will only be a small difference in dps/ stats. what matters more is a good rotation so if you are new look up a guide for your class and practice the rotation before entering a group
That is true! I think, for your first set, you want to get Ascended though. Just to get into Raiding and Fractals a bit faster while also making up for some mistakes in DPS you will make early on. I raid in Exotic Gear quite a few times actually
Bloodstone ring amulet and back are stat selectable and resetable for 100 unbound magic. If you have bloodstone fen you should be farming these up as they're significantly cheaper than mist trinkets and the back is the only easily resetable back I know of in the game, possibly the only one period
Great guide that I'm surely gonna link to new players in the future, but I gotta agree with that funny sounding charr about ascended armour and raids. I'm with the RTI - EU based raid training guild that takes in complete newbies and teaches the all the raids and I have to stress that you really, really, REALLY do NOT need ascended armour for raids. We never require it and even actively discourage people for chasing it if they want to raid a lot since it's MUCH better for them to gear additional classes and/or builds with exotic armor and ascended accessories/weapons. Stat difference armor provides is so minuscule that it wouldn't make a difference anyway. Spending tenth of the time needed to get it on training golem will yield immeasurably better results.

People either tell me you DO need Ascended gear, others say you don't. If I don't include it, it will spark a discussion. I think it could be beneficial for pug groups and less experienced groups :)

Ascended is slightly better but I would still recommend to people not to ake ascended gear if you not gonna do fractals. GW2 is much more about being able to dodge and properly execute in combat, better stat won't save you if you don't know the mechanics and can't play properly. The difference in stats is not that noticeable.
multiple accounts allow for more daily crafting too. Also, you can place infinity on wvw rewards hero track and unlock armor and a backpack. Those armor earned can be forged into Legendary armor. Killing 2 birds with one stone.
It takes a week of daily 5-10 minutes run of winterberries to get ascended backpack. Less than an hour total if you're effective. You can also get other trinkets from LW story maps if you are willing to do a little farming.
The easiest and cheapest way is farming the "special" materials on the living story maps. For example it's easy and almost for free(only need the harvest items) to farm fresh winterberries everyday til you can trade them in for an ascended backpiece the icebrood horn backpack. With the living story materials you can get trinkets and backpieces. For armour and weapons you have to do other content
I recommend the PvP route supplemented with Professions For starters, PvP Tickets are not hard to come by. You can easily fill your character's rings, trinkets, amulet, and backpack pretty quickly. It is also beneficial, because you can give your rings another infusion slot for Agony Resist pretty quickly. Now for the supplementary professions. Crafting Marks is huge. Honestly, with the PvP Ascended gear, you get to choose your stats. Technically, you can choose stats on your crafted Ascended gear, but that requires an extra step or two. There are 3 more perks doing PvP. You earn Tomes of Knowlesge while PvPing. Makes it a lot easier to level Alts. You can turn the Ascended gear into Legendary gear. All you would really need is the Reward Track that awards Mystic Clovers. Those are the hardest to get. You can also farm up Gold doing this strategy. 20 gold every time you fill out the last repeatable reward track. Honestly. Some might find it to be painfully boring, but the cool thing is, the worse at pvp you are, the easier it is to get geared. Play an off character to drop rating, then hop back onto your main to get the rating back. If you get stupid good at PvP, nerds will worship you. Again, it will take time. You kill 6 birds with one stone.
@@KyosikaI recently discovered in World v World, that chests Ascended crafting materials drop quite frequently. So rather then having to wait a time Gate out, it's possible to speed the grandmaster mark obtaining process up.
Big point I want to make: If you're a new player who do open world content and think "I do so little damage I need to get Ascended armor", you are wrong. The stat increase is minimal, if you do very low dps it's probably because you are missing runes on your gear, because your choice of stats on the gear makes little sense, or because you just execute your skills poorly. Exotics is more than enough for open world. You should be fine with rare even.
I think I mention this in the end. "You character can survive a little longer with Exotic Gear". I encourage players to get Ascended Gear on the Characters they play end game on.
Thanks for video. I have trinkets and weapon so far for my Mesmer and will be looking into armor next. crafting seems best way to go for me right now. But the thing i don't get is why it's so important to have ascended for raids and open world, I understand for fractals it's needed for AR. I haven't looked at raids yet but seems like your indicating in video that the main reason is for better stats. The thing is the stat bump over exotic armor with jewels just seems minimal, like it barely does anything at all. It feels like it's just a nice little bonus gifted to me for my trouble but real reason i got ascended is for the infused slots. I honestly don't see much of a difference in survivability or dps so far by getting all ascended trinks and weapon. I'm sure there is a different just not night and day,, like probably only 5% more DPS if that (i'm running berserker on a power build). So not sure what big deal is for pushing players to get ascended just for stats. It feels like a situation in which you get bullied or blocked from doing end-game content because you only have exotic when ascended is only 5% better, like the "elitists" find that unacceptable. I don't get it.
I just googled this and found, "On average, exotic gear yields 15,151 DPS, while ascended gear yields 15,994 DPS. That's a difference of 843 DPS. So damage wise, there isn't too huge of a difference, in fact, food and utility gives a higher boost in damage than the upgrade from exotic to ascended gear does, which is already surprising to me". So again unless someone wants to do fractals i see no reason to spend such considerable time and effort for ascended items. Just another reason for "elitists" to complain and make fun of anyone with not best gear in the game that is only 1% more dps, sigh. That's only part of this video that makes no sense, why the need for ascended for the stat bump which is hardly existent at all.
I didn't do extreme math for this video. However, my point is that getting that Ascended Armor for your profession let's you learn your profession a little better. Also, if you are new. That little stat increase can compensate for mistakes you make during a fractal or raid. But you are certainly right. The stat increase is minor

I'm working on my 3rd ascended set atm, and I feel like since the adding of living world ss4 and ice brood saga, getting ascended trinkets are even easier than before except backpack that I still need to farm from living world ss3 but it just takes time not hard. Ps. if you're not working on any ascended set, crafting the certain ascended materials and selling on tp actually gave you a good amount of gold per day.
Very good point! That's why I suggest to always craft your Ectoplasm refinements you can turn those into Ascended crafting materials any time you want! :)
I know this video is almost a year old, but I have a question. Let's say I have some laurels and also access to farm winterberries and bloodrubies. Should I save my laurels and just farm more of the other mats? Is Laurels good for anything other than buying those accessories? I don't want to waste laurels (if they are valuable) if I can just spend a few more days grinding berries or whatever.
I would be careful with laurels. You can also buy T6 materials with those which you can use in crafting or for gold if you really need it. Also, I don't what End of Dragons brings and what you can do with Laurels there. You can spend your Laurels, don't be afraid to do so. But don't spend all of them is what I'm saying. If you ask me, I'd farm Winterberries for a bit :)

I can't see if anyone said this but the repeatable ranked pvp chest will not continue to give you gm marks, so you can only get 3, I think, per season making completing a set much longer than stated here (by pvp alone)
And how do i get Ascended Trinkets with HoT and PoF stats such as Trailblazer, Marauder and Viper's? You can't buy them for laurels. For laurels you only get ascended trinkets with useless stats, with Berserker being an exception. But i don't want to play a glass cannon: i need Marauder stats for Power builds and Trailblazers for condi and i just can't find them.
Trailblazers can be found in Season 3 maps I believe. I found a list of all the trailblazer trinkets. So far I've only played my ele to 80, and my warrior is ~60, I really like how simple warrior is and I'm planning on using a lvl 80 boost on a warrior - should I main my warrior to get ascended first like you said then? Or should I just dive into learning how to play ele at end game since I've played it lvl 1-80? Any advice from anyone would be really great ty 😁
First, grats! Personally, I would gear up that Warrior first. You have the easiest roles in end game content to start with. But that is entirely up to you. The comment section is divided on this but I stick to my opinion!
You can actually get the Ascended back piece within less than a month by playing ranked pvp twice or thrice a day. If you reach Byzantium reward tier you will have eventually reached 100 pvp tickets. That would be enough to buy the recruit's, veteran, elite and champion's wings of glory to craft in the mystic forge a Wings of Ascension. I tend to play pvp thrice a day and didn't notice I already had enough for the backpiece after less than a month playing pvp. It's also a fun way to get it if you like pvp a lot.
Many maps have ascended back take bitterfrost for instance u can get back there in 8-10 days max if have only one hero but u can take it even in 1-2h if u have enough heroes to farm.
I main a Elementalist as I just enjoy it, i came back recently after 5 year break so starting again. im a casual PVE player, so should i change from elementalist to another class when i want to start on ascended gear?
Hmmm, maybe in the long run! You could swap it with another character. If you want to play Fractals, don't change it. Just grind Agony Resitance on your ele :)

If you’ve learned a few raids and know your class/rotation, ascended armor isn’t at all necessary. The way I’m doing it is grinding strike missions and raids and it’s been really easy thus far.
Honestly the boost you get from ascended armor hardly improves you in raids and usually your health is dependent on your healer. Most people probably don’t even try raids if they don’t know their rotation and exotics do just fine.
It depends on the trinkets you want. For example, if you want Trailblazer stats you need to farm Living World Season 3 maps. Exchange unbound magic or volatile magic at vendors. I chose the Laurel vendor in this video because it's very easy to get for berserker and other basic stats ;)

As far as I understood, one reason going for the WvW/PvP Ascended Armor is, that this armor is a precursor for legendary armor. So, if you aim for legendary armor in the future, maybe it is worth to go through the painful way of farming/crafting grandmaster shards and farming WvW/PvP Currencies. Ascended armor from fractals do not qualify as precursor for legendary armor as far as I know. Cheers, Coldy

Ascended gear is NOT a must. It is ONLY a MUST in FRACTALS. It is only because of the AR slots (Agony resist) You can complete all endgame content in full exotics, excluding T2 fractals+. You can honestly raid in full exotics. It requires near perfect rotation of that class, but is completely possible. Having full Ascended vs full exotic berserker gear is only a DPS difference by about 5%. A player who knows how to play their class in full exotics, will always have higher DPS than a player who is "Eh" with their class in full ascended . ALWAYS. Good informative video though! It's just not mandatory! NEVER put your endgame on pause JUST cause you don't have full ascended gear. It doesn't really matter. (Other than fractals)
You are correct! In Fractals this is a must! However, I feel like Ascended gear could be beneficial in raids. Especially for new players. I assume that people who do not have Ascended Gear might not have the proper skill level to do raids. Ascended armor is not that hard to get, you just need to play imo! Backpiece is the easiest and most obvious one if you have the expansions. Banners backpiece is got just aside of my gameplay as my 1st ascended item. but yes, stat wise it is not this big of a deal.
This where the game makes me not want to play. One way or another you're going to need a ton of gold and this game is so fixed to make you so miserable trying to grind for just little bits of gold an hour that I lost all my joy for it.
I agree... also the end game is really just farming skins and crafting new items. I convinced myself that that’s why I play this game so when I went to craft the item I wanted, it required 10 charged quartz which you can only make 1 a day. I’m so sick of this time gated crap and only being able to make one resource a day. What the hell is the point then? Log on; make your time gated material, log off... repeat until you have it, then choose another skin to be time gated on...?? So stupid..
There are ways to get ascended backpacks without luck. Back when I was playing in 2015 you could use Mystic Forge recipes like these to get them: wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/There_with_Yakkington:_A_Traveler%27s_Tale These are by no means cheap but they aren't hard to get either.

For example it's easy and almost for free(only need the harvest items) to farm fresh winterberries everyday til you can trade them in for an ascended backpiece the icebrood horn backpack. With the living story materials you can get trinkets and backpieces. For armour and weapons you have to do other content

I recommend the PvP route supplemented with Professions
For starters, PvP Tickets are not hard to come by. You can easily fill your character's rings, trinkets, amulet, and backpack pretty quickly.
It is also beneficial, because you can give your rings another infusion slot for Agony Resist pretty quickly.
Now for the supplementary professions. Crafting Marks is huge. Honestly, with the PvP Ascended gear, you get to choose your stats. Technically, you can choose stats on your crafted Ascended gear, but that requires an extra step or two.
There are 3 more perks doing PvP.
You earn Tomes of Knowlesge while PvPing. Makes it a lot easier to level Alts.
You can turn the Ascended gear into Legendary gear. All you would really need is the Reward Track that awards Mystic Clovers. Those are the hardest to get.
You can also farm up Gold doing this strategy. 20 gold every time you fill out the last repeatable reward track.
Honestly. Some might find it to be painfully boring, but the cool thing is, the worse at pvp you are, the easier it is to get geared.
Play an off character to drop rating, then hop back onto your main to get the rating back.
If you get stupid good at PvP, nerds will worship you.
Again, it will take time. You kill 6 birds with one stone.

So rather then having to wait a time Gate out, it's possible to speed the grandmaster mark obtaining process up.
Big point I want to make: If you're a new player who do open world content and think "I do so little damage I need to get Ascended armor", you are wrong. The stat increase is minimal, if you do very low dps it's probably because you are missing runes on your gear, because your choice of stats on the gear makes little sense, or because you just execute your skills poorly. Exotics is more than enough for open world. You should be fine with rare even.
I think I mention this in the end. "You character can survive a little longer with Exotic Gear". I encourage players to get Ascended Gear on the Characters they play end game on.
about backpacks, I got the Sclerite Karka Shell many years ago and is ascended

Thanks for video. I have trinkets and weapon so far for my Mesmer and will be looking into armor next. crafting seems best way to go for me right now. But the thing i don't get is why it's so important to have ascended for raids and open world, I understand for fractals it's needed for AR. I haven't looked at raids yet but seems like your indicating in video that the main reason is for better stats. The thing is the stat bump over exotic armor with jewels just seems minimal, like it barely does anything at all. It feels like it's just a nice little bonus gifted to me for my trouble but real reason i got ascended is for the infused slots. I honestly don't see much of a difference in survivability or dps so far by getting all ascended trinks and weapon. I'm sure there is a different just not night and day,, like probably only 5% more DPS if that (i'm running berserker on a power build). So not sure what big deal is for pushing players to get ascended just for stats. It feels like a situation in which you get bullied or blocked from doing end-game content because you only have exotic when ascended is only 5% better, like the "elitists" find that unacceptable. I don't get it.
I just googled this and found, "On average, exotic gear yields 15,151 DPS, while ascended gear yields 15,994 DPS. That's a difference of 843 DPS. So damage wise, there isn't too huge of a difference, in fact, food and utility gives a higher boost in damage than the upgrade from exotic to ascended gear does, which is already surprising to me". So again unless someone wants to do fractals i see no reason to spend such considerable time and effort for ascended items. Just another reason for "elitists" to complain and make fun of anyone with not best gear in the game that is only 1% more dps, sigh. That's only part of this video that makes no sense, why the need for ascended for the stat bump which is hardly existent at all.
I didn't do extreme math for this video. However, my point is that getting that Ascended Armor for your profession let's you learn your profession a little better. Also, if you are new. That little stat increase can compensate for mistakes you make during a fractal or raid. But you are certainly right. The stat increase is minor

I'm working on my 3rd ascended set atm, and I feel like since the adding of living world ss4 and ice brood saga, getting ascended trinkets are even easier than before except backpack that I still need to farm from living world ss3 but it just takes time not hard.
Ps. if you're not working on any ascended set, crafting the certain ascended materials and selling on tp actually gave you a good amount of gold per day.
Very good point! That's why I suggest to always craft your Ectoplasm refinements you can turn those into Ascended crafting materials any time you want! :)
I know this video is almost a year old, but I have a question. Let's say I have some laurels and also access to farm winterberries and bloodrubies. Should I save my laurels and just farm more of the other mats? Is Laurels good for anything other than buying those accessories? I don't want to waste laurels (if they are valuable) if I can just spend a few more days grinding berries or whatever.
I would be careful with laurels. You can also buy T6 materials with those which you can use in crafting or for gold if you really need it. Also, I don't what End of Dragons brings and what you can do with Laurels there. You can spend your Laurels, don't be afraid to do so. But don't spend all of them is what I'm saying. If you ask me, I'd farm Winterberries for a bit :)

You are talking about PvP right? In PvP you use custom gear so it is equal for everyone. It does not matter whether your axe is green or Legendary ;)
I can't see if anyone said this but the repeatable ranked pvp chest will not continue to give you gm marks, so you can only get 3, I think, per season making completing a set much longer than stated here (by pvp alone)

And how do i get Ascended Trinkets with HoT and PoF stats such as Trailblazer, Marauder and Viper's? You can't buy them for laurels. For laurels you only get ascended trinkets with useless stats, with Berserker being an exception. But i don't want to play a glass cannon: i need Marauder stats for Power builds and Trailblazers for condi and i just can't find them.
Trailblazers can be found in Season 3 maps I believe. I found a list of all the trailblazer trinkets. I think crafting is a decent way to get them. Usually you can get them when you play through the story or by completing achievements.

Thanks for a great video! So I actually JUST hit lvl 80 with my Ele tonight - so that last segment you had really helped me...
So far I've only played my ele to 80, and my warrior is ~60, I really like how simple warrior is and I'm planning on using a lvl 80 boost on a warrior - should I main my warrior to get ascended first like you said then? Or should I just dive into learning how to play ele at end game since I've played it lvl 1-80?

First, grats! Personally, I would gear up that Warrior first. You have the easiest roles in end game content to start with. But that is entirely up to you.
The comment section is divided on this but I stick to my opinion!
You can actually get the Ascended back piece within less than a month by playing ranked pvp twice or thrice a day.
If you reach Byzantium reward tier you will have eventually reached 100 pvp tickets.
That would be enough to buy the recruit's, veteran, elite and champion's wings of glory to craft in the mystic forge a Wings of Ascension.
I tend to play pvp thrice a day and didn't notice I already had enough for the backpiece after less than a month playing pvp. It's also a fun way to get it if you like pvp a lot.
Many maps have ascended back take bitterfrost for instance u can get back there in 8-10 days max if have only one hero but u can take it even in 1-2h if u have enough heroes to farm.

Hmmm, maybe in the long run! You could swap it with another character. If you want to play Fractals, don't change it. Just grind Agony Resitance on your ele :)

If you’ve learned a few raids and know your class/rotation, ascended armor isn’t at all necessary. The way I’m doing it is grinding strike missions and raids and it’s been really easy thus far.

Honestly the boost you get from ascended armor hardly improves you in raids and usually your health is dependent on your healer. Most people probably don’t even try raids if they don’t know their rotation and exotics do just fine.

It depends on the trinkets you want. For example, if you want Trailblazer stats you need to farm Living World Season 3 maps. Exchange unbound magic or volatile magic at vendors.
I chose the Laurel vendor in this video because it's very easy to get for berserker and other basic stats ;)

Just one note on this. As far as I understood, one reason going for the WvW/PvP Ascended Armor is, that this armor is a precursor for legendary armor. So, if you aim for legendary armor in the future, maybe it is worth to go through the painful way of farming/crafting grandmaster shards and farming WvW/PvP Currencies. Ascended armor from fractals do not qualify as precursor for legendary armor as far as I know.

There is a specific Ascended Armor set that is a precursor for legendary armor. This has a PvE and a PvP equivalent as far as I've understood. I got the PvE variant. So yes, you are correct but that is the same for PvE! :)

That is true!
Ascended gear is NOT a must. It is ONLY a MUST in FRACTALS. It is only because of the AR slots (Agony resist) You can complete all endgame content in full exotics, excluding T2 fractals+. You can honestly raid in full exotics. It requires near perfect rotation of that class, but is completely possible. Having full Ascended vs full exotic berserker gear is only a DPS difference by about 5%. A player who knows how to play their class in full exotics, will always have higher DPS than a player who is "Eh" with their class in full ascended . ALWAYS. Good informative video though! It's just not mandatory! NEVER put your endgame on pause JUST cause you don't have full ascended gear. It doesn't really matter. (Other than fractals)

I assume that people who do not have Ascended Gear might not have the proper skill level to do raids. Ascended armor is not that hard to get, you just need to play imo!

Backpiece is the easiest and most obvious one if you have the expansions. Banners backpiece is got just aside of my gameplay as my 1st ascended item. but yes, stat wise it is not this big of a deal.

This where the game makes me not want to play. One way or another you're going to need a ton of gold and this game is so fixed to make you so miserable trying to grind for just little bits of gold an hour that I lost all my joy for it.
I agree... also the end game is really just farming skins and crafting new items. I convinced myself that that’s why I play this game so when I went to craft the item I wanted, it required 10 charged quartz which you can only make 1 a day. I’m so sick of this time gated crap and only being able to make one resource a day. What the hell is the point then? Log on; make your time gated material, log off... repeat until you have it, then choose another skin to be time gated on...?? So stupid..

These are by no means cheap but they aren't hard to get either.

Wiki: Assuming the maximum amount of tickets per week, it will take 4 weeks to purchase a full set of armor or 1 week per weapon.

@@Kyosika it also assumes players already have the grandmaster marks. Wvw is the worst place to grind grandmaster marks as u can only get a max of 1 per month and have to reach a certain ammount of pips to attain just 1 mark.
