    What is your favorite practice amp?

    • @thiscorrosion900
      @thiscorrosion900 Рік тому

      I ended up like a small amp madman over here, since I just play at home and don't need a 500 watt head and cab. I have a Vox VX50 GTV modeling amp, which is
      my favorite amp I own, not totally practice, it's got an absurd amount of power at 50 tube watts. Next faves are my Blackstar 10 watt IDCORE, I bought that
      just for the Crunch Channels, it's great, and then my Roland Cube portable amp is third fave. but honestly I love the Roland just as much as the others,
      because the power and sounds you can get out of it are amazing esp. for the price. I almost bought one of the Yamahas at Sam Ash a few years ago,
      I may still get one just for portable reasons if I can find one used, maybe. I know the Yamaha is great, everyone has told me for years that it's excellent
      and I can see why. You can also get it in various power permutations too. I also own a Line6, and a Fender Mustang II that I got about 9 years ago, both
      also darned good.

    The best practice amp I ever played! I bought one today! Great sound quality and very portable. It works with batteries too.

    I have le Thr5, 10, 10C and 10x ! The 5 is juste smaller than the 10 and the equalisation is just a "tone" button. But it sound so good for a small amp, and you can plug a tube screamer on it to boost the 3 first amp mods. The tuner is one of the best because you see each note A,B E.... so good amps. The reverb is very good too maybe because of the stereo

    I had one of these for a long time and then I got a new Fender GTX100 and I ended up giving mine to my Dad. They are awesome. Sound great, look great. One of the best practice amps out there.

      @@Gaslight.Guitar Thanks man! My Dad paved the way for me. He was in bands up until just a year ago, starting well before I was born. The Yamaha was actually his to begin with but there was a short time when I did not have an amp so he gave it to me as a birthday present one year.

    It definitely sounds good. I'll still use my THR10X a good bit, but I always go through my daw . I use it as the usb audio interface.

    Interesting video, thanks. I've had the THR 10C for a long time and use it a lot. If anything, I've grown to like it even more than when I bought it. It's very responsive to the tone controls, so it's worth twiddling to get the tone you want. For a clean tone, a secret is that the bass setting is great. The Bad Monkey and ProCo Rat pedals work well with it. I tried all three versions, but with hindsight should have given the standard version a chance with more tone control twiddling as I might have stayed with that. A small issue with the 10C colour is that the control labels are hard to read. I tried a few tube amps but struggled to get a decent tone at low volumes; the THR is designed for exactly this purpose. I also have a Cube 80GX which is also good with pedals. I wish the THR had an effects loop, so I'm considering a Katana 100 as that has an effects loop and is switchable down to 0.5W. That will be interesting to compare with the THR and Cube.

    Is it enough wattage for an apartment? How loud can it get?

    • @Gaslight.Guitar
      @Gaslight.Guitar  Рік тому +2

      it is made for apartment use which is not being too loud. it can get too loud to play at night if you turn it up.

      @@TheFeelButton Yeah I got a Fly and it's neat, but I dunno my Telecaster I couldn't get a lot of power out of it, not sure why. Others raved about it. The Roland Cube I use constantly, it really projects over backing tracks for practice, no sweat, and the versatility and quality are amazing. But my Vox VX50 is the monster here....that thing is scary.

    Mine sounds small and buzzy. It doesn't take pedals well at all. I can't understand what the positive reviews are about. I've owned many amps over 30 years. This sounds like a cheap buzzy solid state amp of days past. The clean is pretty good.

    • @jordieg-us4ee
      @jordieg-us4ee 4 місяці тому +1

      What would you recommend for a similar price and size?

    • @James-Deep
      @James-Deep 4 місяці тому

      @@jordieg-us4ee That is a good question. Close in price, you could do a lot worse then a used, but nice condition bugera V5. Get some joyo overdrive and distrotion pedals. That would be a good start. Add a nice delay with a looper when you get more cash. The V5 has an attenuator, so with the pedals you can really get a rocking sound at low volume. Is it a Mesa Boodie Mark 5? nope. Is the clean as nice on the V5 as on the Thr5, nope. The clean is pretty good on the V5, though. But you'd have an amp that you could hang with a drummer with, practice and record at home with. But yes, it is a good question. I'm sure there are other good answers.
      I've really liked a fender Super champ XD, around $240 used, but you really don't need any pedals with those because they have it. Overdrive and distortion sound good. effects are nice. That catch with that one is it has a slightly higher noise floor at quite levels.

    Hello, Great video thanks for posting. My THR5 just arrived today, I’ve noticed if the volume, gain and master are around 9 o’clock there’s no sound. It seems to want to be turned up closer to noon to operate, is that normal? I thought I’d ask because I’m not finding any information online

    • @Gaslight.Guitar
      @Gaslight.Guitar  2 роки тому

      Im not sure but as far as I remember, the clean channel is definitely less loud than the other channels. and as far as I remember both settings at noon make no sound (but only in clean channel?) havent tried it now but I believe thats normal.

    You're playing a thr10 I think the 5 is physically smaller then that. I've had them both...I wouldn't waste my time with the thr5 because it's simply not loud enough but the thr10 is. I personally think it's the best Amp I've ever played. It's hard too describe until you've played one. The tone is so warm and full...
