It was a review unit, but the new one has the 7840hs That’s a HUGE win. I’m in love with the 7840hs. So it’s a no brainer. I almost bought this last week… I’m still tempted
I loved the 2022 model but the fans always turned on when watching UA-cam so I sent it back. Ended up with a Surface Laptop which has no fan noise during web/office/video and the keyboard is even better in my opinion.
I just bought it with matte screen. It is really nice model...but the fan is midly running all the time, starts in about half minute after power-up. It reminds me the sound of classic HDD. It is the same in idle doing nothing, web browsing, YT watching etc. It is only slightly increasing with mild tasks, but it does quite a lot with heavy loads (as expected). I tried to get rid of the low load fan noise: updated BIOS, drivers, limited max CPU clock down to 50%, experimented with Lenovo fan modes and Windows power/battery modes. My CPU temperature in Idle is around 38-40°C (quite low for fan to continue running IMO). Nothing helped...it looks like it is inherent to the laptop design and how Lenovo controls fan here. Looks like there is no solution. So I will probably return it. I wouldn't buy it if I knew it cannot do anything without fan being on.
@@maquark Do you remember the exacts specs, CPU, RAM, display versions? It's weird how most tests agree on low noise, also good battery life, yet many users (not everyone though) complain about 3-4 hours only with basic tasks, and fan almost always on...
@@maquarkthis is very much done deliberately by Lenovo. I don’t own a Lenovo laptop that doesn’t have its fans run all the time. My Ideapad gaming 3 (i5-12500H, 3050 Ti), Legion 7 gen 7 AMD Advantage, and Yoga Pro 7 (3K 120hz, 3050 6GB) all have the same thing going on. However it never crossed me as being that much of a nuisance, simply because the fans sound very pleasant unlike literally every ASUS laptop I’ve bought (and returned).
I can't decide between this and legion 7😅 Wanted a 16 inch screen for more real estate but don't really need that much power as I don't see myself gaming too much Edit: only turn off for me is the numeric keypad on the legions prefer the minimalist layout on this one.

Very different. This is much slimmer, and the 3050 is a bit weaker. The loq has a better cpu too. The loq has an inferior screen to this and is bulkier, in my option get the slim
This is why I don't pay attention to reviews! Battery is not good! I bought this computer and it is going back! This guy must be getting paid for this review.
Ah yes… the unpaid shill. I show battery use. You probably have loads of bloat and crap running. Sounds like atomistic fallacy to me. I’m using this laptop as my potable option (which I paid for), and I get 8+ hours. You can’t just buy a laptop and then assuming everything will work. You have to debloat all the windows crap, stop startup programs. To me it seems like you need to do a little more research about windows 11 before pointing fingers my dude 😅
Not even an OLED, why would i pick it over my asus. Don't care about the metal body. In fact, don't like the weight that comes with it. And super slim, so what? Not clear what price it would come at.
Because it’s more powerful and has more expansion, with better cooling. Very difference devices. Asus oleds are nice, but inferior in raw performance and cooling. (And build) I like asus OLED but they are also massively overpriced. If they drop their price by 30-40% it’s a good buy.

Hello, i just bought the laptop, i believe i havw the same version of you but i cannot get any of the battery life estimates anywhere bear what your getting, when testing were you on 60hz ot 90hz? Max i see for me is like 4.5 hours at max charge just browsing and UA-cam.
Slim pro 7 is this years. Better gpu (3050 6gb), and better cpu (7845hs). Slim pro x is last years (3050 4gb, and 6800h). This years model is a big jump in performance
Do you remember if the laptop hade a charges battery when unboxing or did you have to connect power cord? ….mine was dead, needed power cord. I am worried a drained battery is damaging battery.
In the Lenovo vantage software select hybrid iGPU That will disable the dedicated graphics out rate. Hybrid mode will decide to flip back-and-forth but I find it sometimes still turns on, so igpu hybrid is what you want
I am getting a whopping 2 hours right out of the box just scrolling on google. I followed all the UA-cam tutorials to maximize battery and nothing helped.
It definitely needs some type of bios update. I suspect that Lenovo will put something up unfortunately until then battery life is not great. In the meantime I’d recommend going into the bios and ensuring that switchable graphics is on, you can also make sure that startup programs are limited. One thing that I typically do is I go into “gaming” settings, and you can choose which GPU your programs will run on. Unfortunately windows is not very smart and will often programs to your Nvidia GP I often have to do this for my browsers that will refuse to use integrated graphics regardless of the laptop. The browser gaming mode switch might help a lot
Your videos are amazing. I like how you don't focus on all this editing flash on your videos. You're very raw and give great honest opinions. Also this laptop is insanely good judging by reviews.
I this more powerful than the lenovo legion go? Just in the specs. I know the lenovo legion go is a handheld but I am just wondering because it is on sale right now. What do you recommend to get.?
Just got this and I was wondering how does your webcam shutter button on the right side work? Mine was stuck tight and when I used little more force with my fingers, it made a click sound and it’s loose now where it slides up and down while tilting the laptop. Also, the white color is not a true white for me on this laptop- there is a orangish hue
I won’t really make a difference. And extensive testing there’s almost no difference between 85 W on 115 W on a 4060. So extrapolating from the difference between 85 and 100 is negligible
Should I get this one or the Ideapad pro 5i gen 8(16", intel processor, 2023)? It comes down to the reliability of the device, quality control and thermals. Screen size is not that important for me.
Thank you for the review! Did you run any tests comparing fan noise/performance on the different performance modes? Really appreciated that info from some of your other reviews :)
This one You can get 1. 3050 refresh with more vram 2. 7840hs (much better cpu) It basically smashes the asus in all regards. Also it can be had for a good price
nice and thin, but for my liking this will hinder performance a little bit too much. The regular legion models have significantly better cooling design, i'd go with that instead.
I'm buying the lenovo legion slim 5 14 oled...I think this is by far the best value for the buck...saw your slim 7 pro 14 review too but yea..it 16gb ram...3050 graphics...IPS screen...it's just the beginning of an end...guess how much I'm paying for brand new slim 5 14" oled...CAD 1754.80 after tax...32gb ram...1 TB...4060 Graphics...🫡
When I saw this laptop in person it felt cheaply built in my opinion. The keyboard seemed to have too much flex, the trackpad has a hollow/cheap sounding click, and the screen slightly wobbly (albeit this may be bc it was a display unit). When I think of amazing build quality I think of the lenovo yoga 920-13ikb which is my current laptop. Quite old now but still holding up as if it were day one. Was hoping this laptop could replace my 920 but I think I may have to keep looking. Amazing review nonetheless, thank you for the information!

This is a very legit laptop. The cpu is basically a 6800h, which will be good for 4-5 years. The 3050 6gb will ensure you can do some casual gaming during that time too
Basically this is a really superb laptop to get you through uni

I was wondering how come does your model have 7735HS, when the only model I was able to find in Canada (83AW0000US) includes 7840HS? I bought it, so can't wait to take it for a spin! Love your videos and in-depth reviews, hi from fellow RFD-er!
PSRef reveals that they are different models? 14ARP8 (yours) and 14APH8 (mine). Former is nowhere to be found on their storefront anymore. Interesting stuff, hope 7840HS gives this already great laptop a nice little boost without hurting the battery life too much.
It was a review unit, but the new one has the 7840hs
That’s a HUGE win.

Very different laptop. The surface is quite a bit weaker, but yes they are very nice devices. I like their stuff too
@@TechGuyBeau yes, they are very different. But the most important points for me were fan noise and keyboard so the surface laptop was the winner 😉
I can't decide between this and legion 7😅 Wanted a 16 inch screen for more real estate but don't really need that much power as I don't see myself gaming too much

Should I get this one or the Ideapad pro 5i gen 8(16", intel processor, 2023)? It comes down to the reliability of the device, quality control and thermals. Screen size is not that important for me.
