    As a veteran stoner, I would just like to say: It's not for kids and influences the way your brain develops. Go to school and give yourself an appropriate amount of time to mature before experimenting with mind-altering substances. Your future is infinitely more important than "looking cool" or temporary dopamine hits.

      It's arguable that 99% of people shouldn't be doing these drugs, at least in the manner most people do currently. "Trip sitters" or professionals is necessary. Mushrooms, lsd, etc are far too volatile to take willy nilly. After 9 grams of shrooms, I wasn't myself and had an awful disassociative trip. Barely spoke to others for the next 6 months. Dangerous stuff, I'm lucky I was never admitted

    i used to live in Bishop. When I was 12 years old, my best friend (13) and I went to chalfaunt valley ...about 13 miles from bishop. to meet boys. we didnt have a ride home back to bishop and were too afraid to call our parents. so we had the bright idea to walk down highway 6 in the summer. (not smart). tons of semis drove past us on the highway. we were just little girls. any one of those truckers couldve stopped and taken us. thankgod my parents were out looking for us and we saw them speeding towards us down the highway. thankgod they found us.
    what im saying is.
    if she left that town and was on that highway-- she couldve easily been picked up and taken.
    i think about her all the time and pray she is safe and alive and will be found. this is so tragic.

    if i had a kid who came home displaying signs of drug-induced paranoia or detachment from reality, i would also probably think that they just need to sleep it off and i'll have a serious talk with him/her in the morning. i would NOT think to jump right to the "go to the hospital" option.... the stepmom seems very kind & sincere (saw the episode on PEOPLE MAGAZINE INVESTIGATES) and her tears were authentic. blaming her is completely unfair, there was no way to predict something like this... ideally, they would have stayed up with her all night to make sure she doesn't bolt. but hindsight is 20/20....

    • @Bonita.Vampira_
      @Bonita.Vampira_ 9 місяців тому +12

      Unfortunately that is not the cause with drug induced paranoia. Sometimes even the users themselves call 911 because they think they are going to die.
      I’d be upset at my child; but knowing first hand out that anxiety dread, urgent care would be it

    • @YTStoleMyUsername
      @YTStoleMyUsername 9 місяців тому +42

      @@Bonita.Vampira_ Just imagine though, telling a person experiencing drug-induced psychosis that you're taking them to the hospital... or that these people who you called from 911 are here to help you. When they're in that state of paranoia and distrust (even sometimes of their own friends and family- she asked her mom if she was going to kill her for example) it is going to be chaos before it gets better. I can certainly imagine this going through the mother's head and hoping that it's just a bad reaction, and will wear off by morning.
      If the parents had any experience with weed, even through friends in high school or college, they surely would know that it makes some people paranoid, and maybe that's what she assumed. Not everyone is aware of drug induced psychosis. And even with that, if she hadn't disappeared, I'm sure she would've gotten her help if she saw the symptoms hadn't abated after a day or two. No one expects someone to randomly run off & disappear. So I don't feel she is to blame in any way.
      When there's no closure on the outcome of a case, people will especially look for someone to blame so they themselves can feel better knowing what could've been done to prevent something bad from happening. But sometimes bad things just happen.
      I do hope they find her, what she went through must've been terrifying.

White mountain estates is a small plot which is available for development and is about a 10 minute drive to the larger community of Bishop California. Los Angeles department of water and power has bought out nearly every single inch of the Owens valley to take the water rights from individuals and strip all water from the region to send it to Los Angeles in hundreds of miles of pipelines. Because LADWP owns all the land.. there’s small communities like this built on any remaining land. There’s nearly no land available to build on even though Inyo county is the size of the state of Connecticut… yet there’s only enough land for under 20k people to live here… because Los Angeles has taken over everything for their needs.

They might not have wanted Karli and her friends to get in trouble for the drugs and that’s why they didn’t do anything. I would be thinking that I was glad my child called me and was honest with me, and I’d be trying to maintain that trust. I can see myself trying to rationalize and tell myself she’ll be fine soon enough. If the step mom WAS sleeping in the room, it was probably to try to make sure that Carly WAS safe.
      It was the wrong decision not to take her clearly, but I don’t see it as super unusual, indicative of any mal intent, or excessively negligent.
      Another example with less severe consequences from my own life: When I was six, I was at the babysitter’s house, and I was playing with their small dog (a schnauzer). I kept trying to get the dog to take this toy, but the dog didn’t want the toy, and it finally bit me on the finger. I had a wound there about half an inch long (still have the scar). My babysitter washed the wound, stopped the bleeding, and put ice on my finger. Not sure if she called my mom bc this was before cell phones. She probably didn’t. However when my mom came home, the bleeding had stopped, and I’m pretty sure I wasn’t super upset anymore (don’t remember). Anyway, my mom took me home and put me to bed. No big deal.
      Well, it was a big deal because the next morning, I had a major fever and couldn’t move my head or neck. Of course at the point my mom panicked and took me to the ER. She actually thought I had meningitis. Turns out I had a MAJOR infection from the dog bite and was hospitalized for three days. The ER doctor thoroughly chewed my mom out and told her that she should have brought me in right away. Okay. Apparently she should have. But I don’t think it was that odd. She probably looked at it, saw that it was small and no longer bleeding. She thought: my daughter seems fine. This is a dog we know, it has had its shots. This is a minor injury that will heal on its own. 🤷🏼‍♀️
      I think Carly’s parents thought she was having a temporary reaction to a substance and that it would wear off. Like my mom, they never thought what would happen next. It’s tragic, but these are decent parents who made a bad choice.

      I agree. Her parents believed she was acting that way because of the pot. The mother spent the night with her in her room, talking, to keep an eye on her. Clearly the parents love her very much. They were going to deal with the situation in the morning, as the girl seemed a bit better. The mom fell asleep in the girl's room, woke up an hour or so later, and she was gone. Nobody could have predicted that. I think they would have gotten her help, if she hadn't left. The People Magazine episode on her was good, with a lot more info than in here.

      @dammar117 9 місяців тому

      @bethanyestes5126 Neither your mom nor Carly's made a bad decision. It's very easy to judge a mother's decision after we know that things took a turn for the worst. Imagine if all parents of kids with a small wound that was tended to or who appear to be high were to bring them to the ER. Hospitals would be clogged!
      I did bring my kid to the ER the first time he got high. I was not familiar with this situation, so I was alarmed. But I can totally understand that you would think that sleeping it off is all that's needed. Similarly, I cut myself and had a deep gash, but didn't want to go to the ER, even though everyone was concerned. I healed fine.
      Stop judging mothers. And yes, I say mothers, because society tends to come down harder on moms. It has always been that way since the days of Freud.

      Maybe her parents didnt have any experience with weed and just kinda went with the stereotype which would lead them to believe that any and all odd, delusional or strange behavior and dilated pupils was consistent with marijuana intoxication. It is my opinion however that she was very clearly under the influence of something other than just weed as her behavior was inconsistent with its well understood and documented effects. I get the feeling she was dosed without her knowledge by someone with bad intentions who may or may not have had something to do with her disappearance

    Karlies state and behaviour don't fit cannabis consumption at all. You don't get dilated pupils from cannabis. That's something that happens with psychedelics like LSD or MDMA.
    Either she took then willingly and didn't remember/wanted to tell or someone else drugged her.
    One can be paranoid because of cannabis but how she behaved in the car doesn't fit that either.

      It's not a fairly wealthy neighborhood. It's just typical ranch style houses. Developers do put these in places where there is zoning compatible with development sufficient to make a profit. They pay less for the required acreage than if closer to a city, where building is more strictly regulated. It's probably within driving distance to a larger city (Riverside, San Bernardino). I can think of several reasons why Karlie's mother may have not taken her. Karlie was calming down and they may not have had good insurance. In small towns, talk spreads fast so taking Karlie to the hospital could have resulted in embarrassing Karlie. We took a family member to the hospital in a state of psychosis from marijuana. She could have smoked too much dope for her system to cope with. She could have gone into a THC psychosis. It's rare but it happens. Perhaps her particular brain chemistry is predisposed to instability and mental illness (late teens is a common time for the onset of schitzophrenia) and the THC triggered it.
