TD04HL hybrid turbo with proper ecu tune and very good condition high pressure pump. The key is pump after 1996. Last dyno shows around 320hp with 2.2bar peak boost, it even make smoke! I try bigger twin scroll k16 turbo but it no give any hp more, only bigger lag. I think 12v tds head is restrictive to make noticeable more hp, small valve lift. It no problem to make it on any proper condition engine, we make another e36 with the same spec and shows the same power. Racelogic times: 100-160: 6.0s, 100-200: 13.2s
I have a 99 2.5tds touring like you, I did a full rebuild of the engine, new pistons, hooned block and head got polishment and rebuilded as well, I also rebuilded my turbo (td04) and made it hybrid, but I achieved only 195hp and 360nm with 1.4 bars of boost.. What map are you using and what head gasket, also what about the clutch and the rear subframe and diff bushings? How is going on with the temperature of the coolant?
Are you using 12 mm plunger? The intake and exhaust manifold is stock? I want to use 2560V turbo, can i reach 250 hp with this turbo? Will it crack the head/prechambers?
stock 10mm plunger, intake manifold stock, exhaust custom. Its hard to say what hp can you reach, it depends mostly on vp pump condition and proper mapping. Soon i will test vnt turbo on m51 and we see what can we achieve. I not have problem with head cracking, but i see few head gasket issues, i think head is lifting due poor 8.8 head bolts which can be easy upgrade with stock 3.0bitdi 11.0 head stud conversion.

Different pump piston and lift plate. I make now 2.5td pre with vnt turbo, completly no smoke on 230hp with maxxed voltage before have 300hp with lot smoke on post 96 pump. If i find some time i SWAP internal with bigger 11mm plunger, but IT will require really big turbo which not spool great, maybe some gtd F10 series hybrid turbo, we will found out.
@LesioXXXE i have 1994 e34 tds auto 80k miles. I have a chip on a stock engine but it dont seem as quick as my old one. Im gonna check the regulator valve hasnt dropped to bits.. do you know the max voltage at the map sensor before fuel cut?
