Maximum the Hormone are legends of the Japanese Rock scene and inspiration to many musicians and have an especially loyal fan base. This is an older MtH song where they've enlisted the help of Atarashii Gakko, a Japanese self-choreographed group of free spirits who are touring the World right now, and soaring to new heights. While they are different to each other they both embody joy in performance - each delivering some of the best live concerts I've ever seen.
This is two bands. The song Shimi is by Maximum the Hormone and it has been reworked to also feature the 4 women in the sailor suit school uniforms who are Atarashii Gakko. AG! are in the second half of their first world tour and are quickly growing in popularity. In the last couple of years they've gone from playing in small clubs to big venues with capacities in the thousands and have filled the Budokan Arena in Tokyo. They put on a fantastic stage show and have one of the best connections with the audience of any group I've ever seen. If you want to hear more from Atarashii Gakko react to "Atarashii Gakko, Otona Blue, The First Take"...be sure to turn on the English subtitles as the lyrics are important.
If you want Maximum the Hormone the song Yoshu Fukushu is the perfect gateway song. Their label is pretty aggressive vs reactions but Yoshu seems to stay up. As for Atarashi Gakko they are an eclectic idol, pop, jazz, rock, hip hop really whatever the fuck they want group. They are known for their insane energy, loads of personality and unique choreography. They also for some reason have loads of metal fans. My favorite is Koi Geba but Otona Blue 1st take and SEISHUN WO KIRISAKU HADO. Are great starting points.
Maximum the Hormone are one of Japan's most eccentric bands: not just their songs but the way they do pretty much everything. They are: Nao Kumamoto (AKA Nao Kawakita; Nao-chan): Drums, vocals. Ryo Kawakita (AKA Maximum the Ryo-kun): Guitar, vocals, songwriting. The drummer, Nao, is Ryo's older sister. Daisuke Tsuda (AKA Daisuke-han): Growls, harsh and clean vocals, occasional drums and keyboards. Futoshi Uehara (AKA Ue-chan/Ue-chang) Bass, vocals. Atarashii Gakko are the four young vocalists/dancers who appear in this video. They are: Mizyu. Suzuka. Kanon. Rin. To be perfectly honest, I never paid them that much attention until this video came out. Now I'm making up for lost time - they're great.
I'm stage 4 cancer. I've been putting off doing my own UA-cam. It takes me a lot of energy to do anything. But your channel is a subtle encouragement to get off my butt.
The song Shimi was originally released in 2007. Maximum the Hormone is an innovative band that Japan can be proud of on a global scale, and is extremely popular in Japan. The band has a huge cult following in Japan. Many of their songs can only be heard on CD or DVD. They cannot be heard on subscription services such as Spotify or Apple Music. You can listen to some of their music on UA-cam, so be sure to give them a listen and enjoy this f⭐︎ckin great Japanese band.
They are both amazing groups collabing on this. MTH are metal and have been around since about 1997. Atarashii Gakko are a brilliant mold breaking J-pop group. Depsite being different genres, both groups manic energy matches each other perfectly. However, Maximum The Hormone are a bit notorious for full on copyright striking, so beware! I would hold off doing any more of MTH on the channel because if they do strike, you don't want multiple. However you are fine with Atarashii Gakko.
SHIMI 🔥🤘💥 Legendary MtH feat. my favorite free spirited AG! What an epic collaboration! Love ATARASHII GAKKO!'s versatility. They are never afraid to try new things and never let themselves be boxed in one style or genre only. New School indeed!
Your favorite song is probably around here. Night Before the Exam 青春を切り裂く波動/Seishun wo kirisaku hado 最終人類/Saisyu Jinrui Tokyo Calling Each one has its own official MV on UA-cam.
This collab was incredible. The imagery in this is phenomenal. MTH can genre flip better than anyone. The all-female metalcore band, Hanabie, is modeled after them to some degree (They are fire) and Nemophila has a cover of Shimi, which is fire. Koi No Sperma, Koi No America Hungry Pride, Zetsubou Billy (An opening to an Anime - Death Note) & there's a live version of the original Shimi on the internet. MTH is a very influential & popular band in Japan. Many of the newer bands have some degree of inspiration from them.
I don't know enough about Maximum The Hormone, but if you want to go down the Atarashii Gakko! rabbit hole, I suggest starting with their performance of Otonablue on The First Take. After that maybe Tokyo Calling or 青春を切り裂く波動 / SEISHUN WO KIRISAKU HADO. Their songs are all quite different. (You probably shouldn't listen to Candy before you know more about them. That song is a lot of fun live, but it's a bit of an acquired taste.) There are at least three different versions of Shimi. Originally it was an MTH song in 2007. The female vocals were all by Nao, their drummer and the woman not in a sailor suit in this video. In June they released the collaboration with Atarashii Gakko! on CD and now there's the music video version that is slightly different from the CD version.
Been a diehard MTH fan since early 2000's you have a wonderful world to learn about. The band used to be overweight and there was a big moment of them losing weight and writing music to call out haters. But they have always been a major name in the Japanese music industry. This is a collab recreation of the OG version. which some of their new stuff is collab work it seems. which is incredible. Honestly most albums and songs are all bangers. Even outside of the music videos. Just hop around and enjoy it all. Bu-ikikaesu unbelievable reireireireirei mr boogey tamborine are some of my favs personally, but really, just maybe start at the Album "Bu-ikikaesu"
Actually, I don't know much about the strikes, but anyway, if you can't react to more of MTH, find out and listen for yourself to Yushu Fukushu, Let's Talk About Menkata Cottelee, Koi no Sperm, Koi no America, A.L.I.E.N, Satsui vs Satsui, and Hunger Pride. They are great.
They are giving some songs for animes, too. “What’s up, people?” for Death Note, and “Hawatari Nioku Sennti” for Chainsaw Man. A lot of people even from outside of Japan give reactions to them with surprise or make covers by themselves. There are various cool songs for Japanese animes. Please check them out if you are interested. By the way Atarashii Gakko (meaning New School) is called Atarashii Gakko no Leaders (Leaders of the new school) in Japan. They may shorten their name for overseas as it can be a bit long and difficult to memorize for non-Japanese speakers.
Hi , just a friendly warning that sadly reactors have been getting Copyright Strikes for using this video . Not simply " Take Down " notices but straight Strikes . MTH's people strangely seem to have a problem with reactors using it - just thought I'd give you a heads up about the situation 🤷♂
Japan is where the good stuff is these days.
Definitely !!

あなたのリアクションが大好きです。ありがとう。
Love the collaboration of MTH and AG! Maybe you're interested in checking this collaboration too: Knosis - Fuhai feat. Yukina🤘🇯🇵
As far as I know MTH only toured in North America once. They supported Dropkick Murphys in 2008.
