- Easy way to stay compliant at work and just use one rope installed at the top. Not sure if you're aware but you are allowed to have 1 rope that reaches the ground and just a lanyard round the tree like normal. as long as you don't remove every of them you can go up and down getting the job done. Hope this helps someone.

Nice one. Surprising how many people still argue to the hilt just based on what someone told them, even some instructors. The source material is readily available and pretty easy to understand so good to see that you have helped de bunked a few myths for a few people.
Thanks James 👍🏻 this has actually surprises me that some people after just doing a course have not been told this and been told the opposite. I think some instructors may need some re-educating
Thanks. i thought two had to be connected all all times which really meant a 3 rope system . good to know
Another great video Mick. This will definitely help a few people out 👍
Thanks Matt I’m just surprised with some of the comments of instructions saying this is incorrect
Well the industry is unregulated so il just continue doing what I want 😂 one rope for climbing and a lanyard for balance
Well you know the risks involved and its your decision as a "free" man, in the uk, to take those risks if you want. I'll be doing the same. two mainlines if it benefits me in a large canopy tree like a big oak reduction and in a normal/ smaller tree a singe mainline and lanyard like it has been done for years without fail, (except people doing stupid things which is why this regulation came into effect), because I don't want to spend more physical and mental effort and exhaust myself more working at heights with two main lines which is where we make mistakes.
Cheers for the vid. I notice you are not using the FTC freexion device here. How are you finding it compared to the Apex these days? I have the Apex and rate it highly. Cheers
I just swap and change to keep things exciting haha. I really like them both to be fair.
whats your source for the information that you only need 1 anchor point with a rope that has an unobstructed run to the floor?
Obviously we can ascend and descend on one line but for cutting i am pretty certain you need 2 anchors and lanyard.
I’m following TG1 guide book. So using a saw in the tree you only need 2 points of attachment so a main line and a lanyard is good enough 👍🏻
You still need 2 anchors that reach the ground and the usual positioning lanyard when cutting anything.. so if you had just climbed this birch the way you did, that’s okay. But cutting anything is not!
That’s still not correct as long as you’re tied in twice while cutting is fine.
@@mickarblifehave you got a copy of tg1 I’ve realised I’ve never properly looked at the whole thing. I’ve only even been told or seen snippets of it.
@@elchevinit yes I have TG1 to TG5 and that’s where I’m getting the info from
Us americans just run around the tree on our one tie in , i’m confused why you’d need two points of attachment to move ?
and also if you’re ascending quickly would you need another anchor attached to your bridge ? where would you attach it? because two anchors attached to your bridge is technically only tied in once. so do you have to rope walk with your lanyard around the tree?
@@jonathanspafford7181 this is just a away of doing small trees. Bigger trees yes we would have 2 ropes anchored at the top. You can clip both systems to 1 bridge only wearing 1 harness lol
It has to be two anchor points that reach the ground though. So this isn’t legit? This is how we’ve always done it and it’s not what they want.
Sorry but the that is incorrect only 1 rope needs to reach the floor. This is why I have shown this that you can get away with just 1 rope that reaches the floor and a lanyard 👍🏻
@@mickarblife I will look into it again but I was certain the whole thing was having two separate anchors on main lines/anchors that reach the ground and anchors that are both life supporting.
So you are saying as long as you don’t move you can be suspended on one anchor point and as long as both your main anchor and your lanyard can suspend you (lanyard over a branch/peg/union) if you cut one of them, you can cut with just a lanyard and a main line anchor point? That doesn’t make sense still as that’s how it’s always been. *One anchor and a lanyard/two connection points when cutting*
@@elchevinit yes as long as you don’t move you can move one of your systems and reattach it. So in small trees like this you can climb just like you always have no difference to the good old days. When your cutting you will have 2 attachments like we always have so no different there.
@@elchevinit have a Quick Look in the community chat I have taken a picture of where it says in the TG1 book
@@mickarblife I still thought it had to be two anchor points that reach the ground and when cutting two anchor points with a third line being an a working positioning lanyard for cutting!
