Lian Li Lancool II Mesh Case Review - Air Cooling PERFECTION
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 лип 2020
- The Lian Li Lancool II Mesh case is the airflow focused follow up to the original Lancool 2. After benchmarking to testing temperatures with air cooling, this might be one of the best gaming cases of 2020 since it has a good price and plenty of water cooling options too. The only thing that's questionable is availability.

Its always good to see Star-Lord doing Hardware reviews.
He and Superman should team up and do a build then review it
Spiderman too...but he grew a beard this year!
Bum bum bum bum bum bum ba ba ba ba ba ba ba hey now heyy

Just one, though. Don't wanna get too crazy.
The limit that I always try to push is the amount of ice-cream I can consume at one sitting.

Another really nice case. I love how the various brands are finally waking up to what we actually want. I could see myself getting this or the P500A if I make myself a secondary rig.
This is my favorite channel for getting details on PC parts and this case is really nice!
Man I always dig your videos. They are clear, to the point, great visuals, Nothing outrageous, small bits of dry humor. Some other channels go super in depth and that's fine. But you keep it "real" addressing the more everyday things people may encounter. Keep it up! I only ask for more videos! :D
"I totally agree with LianLi's decision not to include a secondary dust filter behind the metal mesh in the front, because...it would make Steve at Gamers Nexus very mad."
I dunno... Bit of a show stopper there for me.
@@mgbon2 If you put another dust filter there it wouldn`t be airflow focused anymore. Two meshes behind each other are basically like a solid wall
stick the ultra-thin toilet paper in front of the mesh panel, if it collect enough dust, just throw it and replace with new one.
@@maggi98mw If you don't want the dust filter you could always remove it. Gamers Nexus has weird case reviews. They love their phanteks case without a dust filter so much, but according to their own numbers, the bequiet 500dx with dust filter removed is better than the phanteks...so their conclusions do not make a lot of sense. Now manufacturers are on the no-dust-filter hype train, simply because IF they included a dust filter then Gamers Nexus would give their case a poor review, even if their case actually does better with the dust filter removed. So now we're all stuck cleaning the inside of the case, because the "ultra fine mesh" does not in fact stop dust.
@@julesjacobs1 I agree with you here. For initial testing, you will get better temperature metrics with little or no filter but in for the actual user, the temperature difference vs. the dust being inside the case is a valid point. I dont want to spend time cleaning my fans and components in my case constantly. Also, having dust clog my GPU components and fans, where dust works its way into the moving part crevices is a no go for me. 3 degree difference for no dust? Clear choice for me.
First time I saw one of your videos, and subscribed. Your delivery is excellent, content solid. Have not kept up with pc technology but will likely have to replace my pc in a year or two. Seems like a good time to get current and you will be a big help.
"Having the power supply all the way in its closest position to the power supply leaves very little room for the power supply cables" I heard that I it made me rethink my whole life hahaha
I just bought the kit and converted mine. Nice to see a company that does that, doesn't force you to simply buy a whole new case.
Marvelous assessment !! Super impressed..Keep doing this type of unbiased reviews .. This is pure win-win situation !!
This is it! Added to the cart. Waiting for the Lian Li Lancool II Mesh Case to arrive!
The performance variant has a fan speed controller on the io on the top, and the rgb has an rgb controller instead.
Thought that was the most important difference between the two so i just wanted to add that here.
stupid question but is the cooling performance the same?
@@daanyalhassan2171 Depends what you do with the fans. The performance has two 140mm in the front and one 120mm fan in the back, so strictly speaking it will be a little better than the rgb which has three 120mm fans in the front. You can get another fan, a radiator or just put one fan in the back for pretty much the same airflow, but all in all I think both have such exellent airflow, that you should just worry about whether you want an rgb or a fan controller.
Victor Sande ok thanks 🙏
The thing is, with a decent motherboard there is no need for a fan controller. Useless junk. I would rather have a USBc port.
Does the fans sync with motherboard software like asus aura?
I picked one of these up recently for my new system. Can't wait to build
Great looking case ...nice review as always!
I've watched this video at least 3 times so far. So much unique information compared to other videos on the case.
After watching your few PC case reviews choice was easy and instant. Thank you very match for your work and honest feedback. Outsneding job!
Can you make a video showing how much dust was in the case after a few weeks? Btw, luv the video
I'm trying to think of a good way to do this experiment so it shows what the dust accumulation is like vs a "properly" closed case.
-D.
@@HardwareCanucks right, thanks man
@@HardwareCanucks Just build your daily driver in the case, and see what it is like after 4 weeks maybe? vs the same time in a closed and filtered case? It would take some time and wouldn't give perfect results but could be interesting.
D you deserve a good night's sleep after this one. Well done
? That’s totally subjective because people’s houses are different and people will have different types of dust accumulation
I just picked this case up for my 3960 Threadripper build and excited to test it out.
Thank you for the detailed review on this
I’ve been using this case for a while now with the two bottom fans as well. I absolutely love this thing. I don’t think I’ll be changing cases for a long time! (I’m using the USB-C as well as the hot swap thingy)
You guys covering this damn case has raised the price almost $20. I knew I should've gotten this before other components. This directly correlated with these reviews
built my first computer in the lancool 2 and i love it!
I literally just got this tower for my niece as a graduation build. Its amazing. Up to date ports, great ventilation, separate compartment for PSU /HDDs, two bottom connections for SSDs, back panel is very well thought of and hides the clutter of cables being seen. 10/10! But... best thing I added to this build is two adhesive magnets on the two top front corners of the glass for easy open/close access.
Wow they sure packed in a lot of features into that case for the price point! I will consider it for my next system build.
@Alistair performance > noise. you can upgrade the fans in the long run anyway and people would normally use headphones of some sort while listening.
The Fractal Design Meshify C has been a good choice for a while now
or just turn the fan speed down until it's quiet, my p400a is only audible under load
Good review mate, just ordered one on the back of this.
I love the way the Black Mesh II RGB looks with the white lights, it just beautiful.
But i also like that the Mesh II Performance has the Fan Speed options and overall comes with the bigger fans.
Is the Fan Speed Option really that important and better? or is the RGB as good without it?
Looks awesome, thanks for the review!!
Thank you for this review. I just got this case to replace my old one which had not-so-good thermals.
Definitely I would buy this case right now! And the price looks worth it! Thanks for the helpful review!
I was initially going for a P400A but this review just changed my mind :D
So happy to see so many new mesh cases on the market.A huge thanks to gamers nexus and other tech youtubers who bought about this change!
Excellent review. I am going to buy this case, the Performance Model.
Your are my favorite person who review a case
Hey Dimitri, what lighting kit or Soft Box do you use for your setup. Your videos always seem to have great lighting and clarity. Just curious.
Patiently waiting for the Lian Li o11 Dynamic MINI review. :)
A great review as always man. And damn that your amazing russian accent i love it

That award was to be expected to be honest. Especially at such a price :3
The flip-able cable cover is a very tight fix for cable management even with regular ATX boards. Gets in the way especially if you want to install something like a graphic card anti-sag bracket. I flipped it around to get some extra clearance with an Asrock Z690 PG Riptide. The raised platform is also on the thin side, and some connectors would definitely interfere, depending on what you're plugging into your mobo. With the cable cover as it installed out of the box (i.e. ATX config), I would have been hard pressed to connect have all 6 main sata ports hooked.
Also, before putting in the motherboard, verify all the appropriate standoffs are in place. Mine was 'missing' one. Either the mobo had a non-standard layout or they just forgot (the standoff location doesn't include the mark for ATX motherboards).
It is a really good case otherwise, as these are only very small gripes on my part.
"I almost stripped some screws" he says while shoving a PH2 into a PH1 screw. Did you try using the right driver?
I think I'm in love with this case!
Would have loved to see a comparison between this case and the original. Great video regardless.
You can actually remove the hard drive bay without forcing it out, you can unscrew from the bottom of case if you line it up with holes underneath case you can get to the screws on bottom of the caddy/bay.
Wow, so impressive. If I hadn't fallen in love with SFF PCs, I would have bought this case instantly.
Dont SFF Pcs have bad airflow?
Jorge B. Only the bad-designed ones of course.
Genius Garage intro hehe
Awesome, looking to build my 1st ever build. Deciding to get this or the beQuiet Pure Base 500DX. New to this but i think im ready to go whenever my stuff is available
Loved the video. I'll be upgrading my H440 build to this as it cannot handle the 6800XT.
Awesome review. Wich one is better in overall score; p500a or lancool 2 mesh? I need your advice. Thanks in advance
Would have been nice to see tests with an AIO cooler as the shroud fan in that scenario may have had less influence on the CPU temp increase.
That peal thro. So smooth
I still run the O11 Dynamic since your review. LianLi delivers very good at lower pricepoints nowadays.
The white version of this case with Noctua beige fans is my dream setup.
This is a great tech channel with what I consider an excellent review vid for this case :) Now, I can say this with all certainty as I myself have built in 4 of the Lancool II model cases (2 in the original & 2 in the Mesh ones) and have also found that the PSU shroud fan placement will raise the CPU temps a few degrees but, that's mostly when using an air CPU cooler so, if you're going to use an AIO then I highly suggest you take advantage of at least one of the PSU shroud's vents to keep those GPU temps in check...also if you're using an M.2 NVMe or a SATA SSD as your sole storage devices then, by all means remove the HDD cage and place at least one front case fan at the lowest location, this will help increase that PSU shroud's GPU cooling ability by feeding fresh cool air from the bottom front straight to the shroud's underside intake and thus straight up to your GPU (BTW, if you want to see some Lian Li Lancool II cooling/fan placement options then, please see my setup at my YT channel). Now, my newest Lancool II MESH build has an R7 5800X, cooled by a front mounted 360 AIO (6Xfan push & pull config), on the B550 Tomahawk mobo, a Gen4 1tb Samsung 980 Pro for boot drive/main storage, with a FTW3 Ultra RTX 3080 Ti GPU, 2Xfans on PSU shroud plus back and top exhaust fans and it's all powered by a Corsair RM850x PSU (FYI, waiting on custom PCIe power cables since the FTW3 needs three 8pins but, I'll be sure to post a final build vid on my channel once it's done).
I just ordered the mesh 2 and a 360 rad and am going to hope it doesn't need to put the radiator inlets at the top. Would like to see that video when you get it done.
@@Mobil3targ3t Ok, if you're going to use a 360mm rad in a Lancool II case then, your only placement choice is in the front of the case...only 240mm rads and possibly if you were to sandwich the two 140mm fans between the case's top and a 280mm rad you then may be able to clear motherboard VRM heatsinks and higher ram sticks.
There was one thing that I wanted different from the original lancool 2, which was the near solid front panel. Seems like other people wanted it too
The white rgb case that was the only one that could ship to greece and I comes with 3 120mm fans at the front. Very interesting and informative vid well done and also well done to lian li.😊
Compelling case! I wonder if using an AIO cooler on the CPU would help mitigate some of that heat increase from having fans installed on the top? I don't imagine it would be a huge difference, but I assume the heat comes from running already hot air through the CPU's air-cooler. Great reviews as always, I'll definitely keep this one on my radar for my next build.
Hi, do you want to mount an aio on top, cooling the processor ? I was thinking of an Arctic AC Liquid freezer II 240 mounted on the top of the case as an exhaust, this way you have 2 x 140mm intake in the front and 3 x 120mm enhaust in the back and top. This is my go to case too, I already ordered it and can't wait for it to arrive.
Really like this case! Indeed would love to see how much dust you build up and I saw a comment of you that you were busy doing an experiment. Considering buying this case but I am not yet done with my research. 5 more days and I'll be the proud daddy of a 3070 or 3 more days for the AMD one!
Great review... I like this case...
I like your reviews 😃 cool short and on point
Just wanted to ask if redragon ironhide gc-801 offers decent air flow considering the price and if not what are the cases on the same price range that can provide such good Airflow , providing that i would be using AMD products and haven't decided yet which cpu cooler i should get 🙇 would appreciate anyone replying
Does the door close easily with the Dark Rock Pro 4? I need a new case that I can close my door on with it.
Thanks for the video! I am planning to buy this case, but I am not sure if my DeepCool LS720 AIO will fit. It has quite a large radiator (420mm length). What do you think?
So I guess an AIO in the front would be the way to go with shroud fans
Surprised that he didnt test an AIO to see if tjat still raised the cpu temps :/
@@TheStoff1975 it's minimal difference half a degree on a 22.4C ambient room temperature.
ugh nope, heat rises. 240mm on top
@sbowesuk ty friendo:)
I got the RGB version with the three fans at the front. Ant recommendation on what fan to buy for the back of the case please? (I'm a complete beginner, thanks)
Lian Li shows proper direction in PC case engineering. I'm waiting for a mesh case with more watercooling capabilities (PC O11 XLmesh ?) !
There's a lot of good cases, this year! Someone finally learned how to make good cases. 👍
2:43 Don't you mean it backwards? The holes need to be small, in able to catch dust, hair, etc.
Yeah, I had to get rid of the drive cage on mine as well. The PSU cables are thick and didn't have enough space for them. So I put the HDD directly on the case... I hate fixed systems, where you can't move stuff. :(
Glad someone's doing case reviews.. all the popular tech channels don't care about them for some reason
So between this, the P500A, P600s and the O11 Dynamic, what would you say is your favourite case at least based on first impressions of the new ones?
How effective would the GPU fan be if it's mounted above the PSU? my PSU intake points down, exhausts to rear, so there'd be literally no intake for the GPU fan (the top of the PSU is solid).
PERFECT review!
I already purchased the white RGB version of this case!
Well for the price this case has excellent features and is very subtle/sleek.
Lancool 2: "fantastic feature wise but lacked in the airflow department"
Me: Laughs in lancool 1
Feels like all the companies went in on sleek looks but too many users just didn’t get the performance so they are shifting. It’s a nice change. Am one of those customers tbh - knew what I was buying but this looks like a good replacement!
Still trying to find where to pre-order. Also did you test covering up the giant hole at the bottom of the mesh panel which allows dust on the ground to get sucked up with no restriction?
I ordered for this box and I'm planning to order a few more fans of the same model. Do I need to buy one with a controller (3in1) or can I but them individually?
Just a little bit of a heads up/info. The phillips screwdriver you were using was definitely too big for those screws, that's probably why you were almost stripping :) thanks for the awesome video as always.
I've always been an NZXT fan but this case looks and seems to be something I would need to upgrade from a SilverStone HTPC case, that did in a pinch, before we moved out of state.
Will the front mesh fit on the original Liam li II? Sold separately?
classy coool review as usual
It's THE best case for airflow. With the bottom fan, the GPU Temps are outstanding.
This will BE my next case.
needed to get some good case
Looks great, split in-between buying this or the fractal torrent.
Would you say it'd be a very bad idea to install dust filters at the front ? I know it'll affect the airflow I don't mind a 20% reduction in performance or so if it means I can keep the case relatively dust free as no filter also kind of defeats one of the primary purpose of having a case with such a positive pressure which is avoiding dust.
Late to the party but you can remove the hard drive cage from the case for better airflow and space! Just look up a video on removing the cage and you’ll find it it’s a pretty simple process and totally worth imo
I really really like this case, and I kinda want one. The only problem is, I am absolutely in LOVE with my O11 Dynamic XL, and I can't think of a good justification for building another computer just so I can put it in this case.
Can a MSI X570 Tomahawk and a Noctua NH-U12A cooler fit in this case? Would love to see a build video with these three combos... Thanks!
HI I have a question since Im planning to buy this case. Since I dont do OC and I dont use AIO. Will an ATX mobo work with 2 fans on top considering Im using a tower CPU fan ( Hyper 121 BE). Sorry since I have not seen any video of that example
Question, is the front lower mesh panel changeable with the one that's non=mesh from the rear? Id prefer to have the bottom completely blacked out. From the looks of things It is, but I can't be certain. Thanks
I've combined it with nh d15 cpu cooler. I wouldn't have thought how massive and nice it looks compared to my old office computer case. Under load CPU temperatures went from 65° to 49°C and GPU temps from 70° to 65°C with the low fan profile. So far it's pretty amazing.
Thinking of doing the same very soon. If you don't mind me asking how much clearance you had left on cooler height? Basically how close was the top of the cooler to the glass?
Great looking case! Afraid it would loot terrible with a bottom front panel RGB fan installed, it would illuminate the basement. Maybe a 240 aio and a plain black fan on the bottom?
Add a couple cut outs for radiator hoses and I'd buy it. Yes, I still run external radiators.
...but... это... much reduce noise level 😁👍
Отличный корпус, отличный обзор. Искал инфу о возможности удаления корзины HDD, только у Вас нашел, более нигде об этом ни слова.
Will the mesh front and side panels be an available upgrade for owners of the original Lan Cool II?
Yes
I ordered set of 3 corsair ll120 rgb fans, but unsure should I pick up performance case or rgb case? And can be 140 front stock fans from this case fitted on the same front bracket on inside with ll120 rgb sitting on outside in pull push configuration? Or this is too much?
Hello All. I need recommendations for the Lancool 2 mesh RGB case. After trying out 2 different AIOs, I am opting to go with the Noctua NH-d15.
1. Could case fans be accommodated on the top of the case with D15 installed?
2. Will G. Skills Trident RAM be cleared by the cooler and/ or even will be visible (RGB)? Which Ram is recommended?
Thanks in advance!
Also can you do a comparison between using a Lancool 2 Mesh vs. motherboard test bench (test bed) and see how the temperature compares? Thanks!
Can you review the "void" case from kolink? Sick rgb!
