I laughed really hard when Uncle Babu said he has to have his wife go with him to the bathroom tonight. I'm pretty sure that was everyone's reaction when they first saw this. I didn't know how the boys would react to this film, but they got every single bit of it. Might want to give them a break from horror for a while lol. Say not you specifically but someone like you existing one moment then not. Imagine for a moment Hell is here/somewhere in reality. You but not really you blink and all of a sudden you er someone else looks around confused. Well let's just call him Bob. Bob's bewildered can't remember what happened a few moments before or how he got there wherever there is. Then suppose for a moment Bob feels a tapping on his shoulder. Turning around reveals the former angelic visage of Lucifer Morningstar twisted into what can only be described as demonic.
*Smiling we will just refer to him as Samuel Lucifer Morningstar, The Devil, Ruler of Hell who was the one being closest to God until God created and love for us drove a wedge between these two celestial beings. Creatures who after forever God just decided to create and gift small things like free will and unconditional love.*
Well now for a moment imagine that the Devil, Ruler of Hell got his hands on what's his name again? Um oh wait a minute I remember Bob. After Bob turns around confused Samuel Lucifer Morningstar slaps him across the face. Then the Prince of Lies grabs Bob by the hair on top of his head, which is there even if Bob became bald later in life and drags Bob's worthless soul down to... well you know where. Most likely I'm full of it I know. Some may not believe in the Devil but that doesn't matter if the Devil believes/hates all of us because God loves us more than he did the closest to him before we came along. I've had a few beers and I am messing around. Probably won't remember what I typed. Just thought I'd share some BS that's been rattling around in my cranium.

They actually believed that the doctors were experimenting on her instead of attempts at a diagnosis. They talked about how much money per hour the laborers were making. They actually believe that this shit is real. I watch a lot of reactions from people all over the world. When Babu is involved, it always goes to Babu thinking he needs to school everyone else. They never just shut up and watch the movie, he just makes stuff up out of nowhere. He will see a new person and immediately decides how people are related to each other in the first 5 seconds with no context. I think the others are there to learn but Babu shows up to use his power as an elder to teach everyone else, which would be fine if he had the slightest idea of what he is talking about. At 8:10 they are playing with a Ouija board. It's a game that is supposed to let you communicate with the dead or spirits. Everyone puts their hand on the planchette, and you ask the spirit questions. Then the spirit will move the planchette to letters or numbers on the board to answer that question. Most people just view it as a silly game for children and don't take it seriously at all. However, some Christians do take it seriously and believe it is actually dangerous to use, since it could summon an evil spirit or demon. My mother never would have allowed a Ouija board in our house.

Their reactions are great to watch, but I hate that some, like this one. reinforce terrible religious thinking. People should be learning better by now. This is a STORY, that's all. It's fascinating to see the different reaction culturally. In the U.S. very few people would assume this was a possession, they would assume it was a medical problem (like a brain tumor) causing behavioral issue or the first appearance of a psychiatric problem. We can't just go see an exorcist. It's a particular branch of Christianity that believes/performs exorcism, and only certain authorized people can complete it, and only with the permission of the highest church leaders. If you aren't a member of the Catholic Church, it would be very hard to even get them to speak to you about the situation at all.

There are exorcist in other branches of Christianity but the Catholics have had the most focus. You can find pastors and experienced laypersons in the Baptist, Pentecostal, Methodist, even the Amish/Mennonites have religious leaders that specialize in such matters. All of the reputable church leaders require the person to be exorcised to have had all mental and physical possibilities explored before they will take on the task.

For rural villagers who believe in the existence of demons and ghosts etc this would be a very scary movie. There are still plenty of people in the west who believe in these things. Humans have this self-centered habit of doubting things exist when they haven't experienced them personally, especially when things are far outside of the "normal." But there are so many things outside of what's normal or common, that still happen all the time.
If you follow any sort of religion, you must believe in the supernatural. If you follow any superstition, believe in bad or good luck, any kind of alternative medicines, big foot, aliens, conspiracy theories, or even quantum theories - it's all having faith in something outside of common experience that is unproven.
And one of the men said he'd personally had an experience with exorcism. 🤷‍♀️ Who are we to say he's wrong.
I think the movie still holds plenty of horror for western audiences, at least the ones who can admit they don't know everything.
