  • Today we are heading over the Flashes to Warmingham and back. Using a combination of back lane, footpaths and canal tow path. I’ll be returning to Warmingham in the future as there are a range of paths here and more routes on the far side of Warmingham towards Crewe.
Its worth noting that from where we hit the canal at Elton and Moston, several of my other routes pass here so you could extend the route if you desired, check out:

    The Route
Starting at the the High Street in Sandbach we head down Middlewich Road, Abbey Road and on to Elton Road down to the canal where we begin our loop heading down Red lane past Watchlane Flash.
Note the turn for watch lane flash on the bend, I point out an alternative route later which comes out here. We head out of Watch Lane and take a right into Plant Lane and then left into Oakwood Lane then take the footpath across the field to Plant lane. Turn left on Plant Lane then take the path on the right over the fields to Green Lane. Turn left on Green Lane and follow it to the end. Turn right on Crabmill Lane and then take the path on the left which takes you over the field onto School Lane, Warmingham. Turn left and head down the hill towards the Bears Paw (in happier non lockdown times, I’d suggest a pitstop here for a pint of ale) then take the path on your over the fields back to Crabmill Lane and turn right.
After a short distance notice Watch Lane on your left, for an alternative route, head down here past watch Lane Flash back to Red Lane, you can then either retrace your steps down Red Lane or pick up the canal opposite Oakwood Lane and head back to the start / end of the loop.
I’ve carried on down Crabmill Lane and over onto Clay lane passing Sandbach Flashes Nature Reserve (sandbachflashe.... Immediately after the railway bridge, take a right into Brook Farm Lane and pick up the footpath along the side of the railway which bring you out on the canal towpath close to the start/ end point of our loop. Turn left then exit at the bridge and retrace your steps back up Elton Road and into town.
Details of where to park and a map of the route are available at my website.
