“At the end of the day, the King and the pawn go back into the same box because the game is The Game.” That is probably the best single sentence summary one could make of The Wire, and using the metaphor from the show is really artful. Yep, always kinda had a soft spot for the kids, and in a sense underestimated them. When Kenard saw Omar limping, he was disappointed because the legend of Omar that he envisioned in his mind was shattered, his fear of Omar left, and that’s how he knew he could take him out easily. Did you notice how Marlo wanted his name to be remembered, but in the end, Omar’s name is the one everyone talked about.

What I love most about Marlo’s last scene and Omar’s death is that it shows that in the end, even though he died, Omar won. He beat Marlo, whose name is even an anagram of Omar with an added L. In the end, everyone was talking about Omar with legend status, but no one even knew who Marlo was, and now there’s nothing Marlo can do to save his rep on the street, while Omar’s name will continue to ring out until people start talking about Michael.

I actually think in a way it shows that Omar didn't end up just another body but got to keep his name in death. Remember, Marlo says "my name is my name." Interesting take.
I had kind of the opposite take myself. When I first saw the scene, I took it as Omar was a big name on the streets of Baltimore amongst the drug trade and the Baltimore PD, but outside of that world, he was just another dead body as a result of the crime that plagued the city.
That's the beauty of a show that's written this well. Two people can have two completely different interpretations of a scene and neither is wrong.

The point is all his concern about having a reputation on the street, it's all fleeting. He's one of the most fascinating characters in Baltimore and yet the newspaper didn't even have space to write a two sentence blurb about him. They chose to cover a little fire instead. The morgue almost misidentified him. The whole point is that he'll quickly be forgotten. His obsession over his reputation in the street was a misguided descent

Heavy role in things within his “little” world. Same way a CEO mostly holds weight within the business sector and outside of that (money aside) no one would respect him more than others. So I think the point is how all that street cred BS is so fleeting and amounts to nothing to the rest of society. At least the businessman might get a line or two obituary newspaper . Omar is just another gangsta, thug , street dude etc. I think that message in itself is genuine and powerful. I lled

Marlo just a guy that got lucky and was in a vacant seat, even avon knew Marlo reign would be short. Marlo was never a true king, the symbolism is when he’s sitting at window number 2 when him and avon talk, also Marlo became stronger bell in the end which stronger was a number 2 and Marlo had on a suit just like stringer. It’s simple. It was meant to show that for all you do in life none of it matters in death, you’re just another body. For as feared and known as Omar was in his walk of life, in the grand scheme of things that meant nothing in his death. Not only that but that’s yet another one of the many many times the show creators show you just how dysfunctional the city of baltimores infrastructure is. This seems egregious to tag someone’s dead loved one as the wrong person, but it’s just random paperwork that’s gonna get overlooked or misplaced.

Omar, despite the random death, still went out a legend.
Marlo may have won according to mainstream society, but he got no ring in the Streets, which is what he wanted.

Either song applies but in an otherwise anti Hollywood show the Omar character is complete Hollywood slop. If he stood or walked alone, back uncovered whistling or not, for 10 seconds he'd be harbor freight. I get the popularity of the character and it was acted beautifully but seriously not a chance in hell.

I'm not watching the video, because it doesn't take 10 minutes to explain something that was _intended_ to be axiomatic upon first viewing:
The *reason* the nametag was wrong was just to show that the coroner fix it... implying that even in death, Omar is a legend that will live on and Marlo will not. So even though technically Omar dies and Marlo doesn't, Omar is the real winner because he gets his name to ring out forever. Nobody even recognizes Marlo after his reign, shown during his last scene. Just like with Namond, Dukie, and Michael... characters fulfill the roles of the previous generation. Marlo gets what Stringer always wanted, but Omar gets what Marlo always wanted.
To take a quote from another magnificent HBO show: _"You end up becoming something you never intended."_
Props if you know what show I'm quoting.

6:20. I found it interesting too. Gus knew who "Fat Faced Rick" was. He recognized his name through the list of campaign contributors to various city council members, and how he got a profitable real estate deal through it. So I wonder why he never knew who Joe was, given Joe was a higher ranking member in the drug trade. It could've been a testament to how Joe operated. Avon and Marlo "wanted their names to ring out." Joe, on the other hand, kept a lower profile. As Joe said on several occasions "buy for a dollar sell for two"

Plus they were bring persons from temp agency to make things worse. I know they have temp agencies for the medical field, but to need that help in the ME's office is something else for both agency, ME dept. and the worker.
Canard being Omar Littles killer shows how young the HOPPERS/corner kids are getting. What is next toddlers running the corners?
What was Canard's age 8-9. everyone claims to be Omar's killer, but when the news reports a 8 year Canard being arrested and charged for Omar's murder Snoop's and every other persons claim goes out the window and down the drain.
Plus Canard will be out of prison by 18-21 and everyone will remember him at least taking the rap, doing time for the murder of Omar Little regardless of the truth.
