No, the hole will prevent moisture buildup inside. Enclosed oxygen is sufficient for 1 to 2 weeks. You will add fresh air whenever you open the bag and check for new growth.
I have an area I set up for rooting, it is about 12" deep of aged wood chips that I set the pots down into. It is the equivalent of them being in ground, but softer and damper. I have had great success starting clippings this way, including things like berry plants.
Just rub the gel from the aloe vera on the cut end and lower 1 inch of the cutting. Aloe vera is a natural rooting hormone, so applying it on the cuttings will promote roots.
How long do the cuttings take to grow before they can be put into a bigger pot and placed outside? I’m based in the UK. Also how long would they take to grow into a full plant sized around 11-15cm?
In 8 to 12 weeks depending on temperature, the rooted cuttings should be ready to put in bigger pot. The cuttings will grow flowers in the next season.
@@GardenTricks thank you so much. When they are put in the bigger pots will they be safe outside in the shade? Or do they need to be stored indoors for a bit? Also will they survive the winter outside or would they need to be covered over?
I tried similar system just with half bottle over plant and did not work. I did water it every 2-3 days but top of bottle was not completely screwed so that bit air can come in. I don't know i probably did something wrong and it did not root even i saw got new leaves growing, there were no roots after 8 weeks.
The leaves grow early, even no roots have grown. You may enclose the pot in a polythene bag in place of a bottle. Next time try with thin, 3-4 mm thick cuttings. Good luck.
@@GardenTricks Can i propagate more then 1 cutting per pot? Bit bigger pot and at least 5 cuttings in 1 pot and 1 bag? Because I need at least 60 camelias, i want to try and make hedge from them,

Aloe Vera contains auxines hormone responsible for root growth, the same hormone is present in all the commercial chemical rooting products. Find further on internet. I have confirmed the aloe Vera use as rooting hormone in propagating cuttings of azaleas, Jasmine, roses and pomegranate tree.

What a great video. Short and concise. Thank you

Bro you’re the only comprehensive look at cloning Camellia Sinensis or any camellia really 🤷🏽 thank you
It is real camellia cutting.
I am going to try this out. Thanks.
When rooting why did you cut the top two leaves in half?
Too many leaves will evaporate more moisture from soil.
great vid!!! Quick and clear. thank you for sharing.
Thanks.
Nice cutting results 👍

Hello, does the bag have to have a hole for oxygen to enter the cutting?
No, the hole will prevent moisture buildup inside. Enclosed oxygen is sufficient for 1 to 2 weeks. You will add fresh air whenever you open the bag and check for new growth.
Ola ola consulta que grosor tirnen esos esquejes de camelia. Asta qe grosor pueden enraizar o cual es el ideal
Thin cuttings are easier to root, pencil thick.
Is the bag to make sure the soil doesn't dry out?
To create high humidity around the cuttings, needed for rooting. The bag makes a mini green-house.

@@tomhollingsworth9328 Thanks for info.
Can you tell me how to make potting soil?
Just mix some coarse sand or perlite in the soil to make it free draining. This is for rooting cuttings.

I live in the tropics . Do I still need to put a plastic bag over the young stem I am propogating?
Yes to create high humidity, which is essential for propagation.
@@GardenTricks even in the tropics where our humidity is v high ?
@@maryannewoon3642 If humidity is high, then it may not required.
