    They should offer college courses on how to play this game.

    I'm thinking it could be more useful to simply make some of the most important steps and explain them in context, and let everything branch out naturally from there. That would take away the need of getting to learn, read, hear all the stuff, and it would be more like doing stuff that has to be done at the right time. It's not efficient anyway trying to memorize everything first and then do it while trying to recall. I don't know why, I just made that up as a rule.

    In Civ, you had pollution leading to global warming effects and all that stuff. In here, the ammount of eco-damage translates into the planet trying to get rid of you, like if he considered you a virus:P

    If you click the town center in the town menu, it auto adjusts the tiles that are being worked so that it gets an even growth/production/commerce.

    If you want to pay anything in full (without it having no minerals into it) it costs DOUBLE then if you pay with at least 1 mineral of production on it. If I recall, it's the same idea as in CIV II.

    Fat-cross design: 21 squares (inluding center), every 2 squares from the center excluding the diagonal ones. The beggining view is that format. You should expand without any overlap if you can.

      It does take a while to learn the interface/mechanics, although I felt it wasn't too hard on difficulty (at Talent setting anyway) once you got the hang of things

    How do I heal damaged units ? Any other ways except monoliths ?

    • @BlueAnkylo
      @BlueAnkylo  10 років тому +1

      Depends on the unit, but most things repair a little bit each turn, or more in your territory or in a base

    • @TerrorTerros
      @TerrorTerros 10 років тому

      BlueAnkylo I figured as much, but I was hoping for a ''civ like'' heal action for units.

    • @prufenful

      Units heal progressively by waiting turns. It can only be repaired up to 80% outside a base.

    • @HunterX57
      @HunterX57 10 років тому

      Terros In the late game you can learn nanotechnology that will allow your tanks/speeders/boats/planes to repair autonomosly outside of your cities. For the early game, mostly you'll just want to garrison them in a town for a turn or two.

    • @TerrorTerros

      HunterX57 thx, I'm telling you man, this is a hard game.
      Some clunky interface issues, but apart from that is still awesome. Way better then the new Civ Beyond earth.

    Seriously, it's games like this that define why I DON'T like buying older games, because they're horrendously difficult (like this) and awful (like this, lol, the hate i'm going to get for that statement). Awful game, represents the dark ages as far as PC gaming went back them, playing it was like watching a fucking documentary, not playing a game.

    • @atarirob

      As far as Strategy games go, this just isn't fun. 1990's strategy games make up a majority of my favourite games ever made (Bullfrog games particularly) but this game is like doing fucking homework, not playing a video game. There's no enjoyment in a game like this, I'm sorry. It's just horrible, I remember it being shit back then too.

    • @BlueAnkylo
      @BlueAnkylo  8 років тому +6

      Everyones entitled to their opinion, but you only speak for yourself, I and many others find Alpha Centauri one of the best strategy games there has been, let alone of it's time. I don't even have nostalgia goggles for it, since I hadn't played it when it came out and was learning my way through during this let's play.
      It takes a bit of reading sure, it's no Call of Duty, and like all games you have to learn the mechanics and controls to get good at it. But I'd WAY rather have a game with depth that requires you to figure stuff out and learn then so many of the more recent games dumbed down to practically no depth.
      Finally, you can not fault the games lore and story, which are by far some of the best Sci Fi in gaming you'll find.

      Also just for reference:
      www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/04/24/best-strategy-games/
      It's #2 on that list.

      +BlueAnkylo I completely disagree that this is one of the greatest sci fi games ever because of a game like System Shock and its sequel (the latter is my favourite game ever made) and that game is of immense depth in gameplay and story, so it's not that I can't handle a deep game where you have to figure stuff out, I love that too, I'd much rather play a game like System Shock than Doom. This game just really doesn't do it for me, personally I think it looks so ugly, I know you can explore more but the turn based aspect kills it, as just walking across your tiny map could take a minute. As far as strategy games go, I'd much rather play something a little less restrictive and inaccessible. Kinda gives you the feeling you're doing nothing correct. In a strategy game I want to build a fucking empire(!), not get attacked by worms and completely have to start over again because my sentinels died. It really makes me feel like I'm doing a geography assignment or something, too complicated.

    • @BlueAnkylo
      @BlueAnkylo  8 років тому +3

      "One of" Doesn't mean, the ultimate best, yup, System Shock is also one of the greatest sci fi games, it's also not a strategy game, it's a first person shooter, with some RPG mechanics, so any argument about strategy and depth is immediately lost in that comparison.
      Alpha Centauri is really not that restrictive or inaccessible either, it follows the exact same core gameplay as a civilization game. If you lose your first worker in Civ do you complain? Do you not consider building your colony from a small group of people barely coping on an alien planet to a civilization that spans the globe and can terraform to it's hearts content not building an empire? The core gameplay is exactly the same as the civ series, which are also some of the greatest strategy games that exist.
      You don't personally have to like the game, but Alpha Centauri is regularly ranked in the top 3 of all time strategy games, and it always receives reviews in the 90%+ range, so arguing it's a horrible game just isn't realistic, you don't like it, ok, but lots of other people do.
