RIP dear Queen of the Night
in my humble opinion she still is the best Queen of the night of all times. Every note is at its place - ok thas with otehrs too, but she makes it feel like its a piece of cake and effortless he jumps over the scales like she is playing with the notes and sounds... never before or after did i hear anybody even CLOSE to this.
Lucia Popp's consistency through registers, ability to dwell on the highest notes without rushing, far outshine Gruberova's performance. Popp's Queen of the Night is the standard by which I measure other interpreters. They are commenters who fault Popp for not being "mean" enough. This is typecasting. The music in itself conveys the sense of anger that Mozart intended, without resorting to bad singing. The final b flat (Hört! hört! hört!) certainly conveys the sought-for revenge. @@kiernanburke2674 she (Lucia Popp) was a nice humble and shining Pamina in this very event. However: she never had the aura and radiance which came with Mrs Gruberova's performance. it is not just about good singing (and even there the coloratures of Mrs Gruberova by far were clearer, better - actually you had the feeling she is just playing with her voice totally effortless and "leightweight")" but also about acting and making people FEEEL the danger of the role. Popp never was having this dominance on the stage that for the Gruberova was natural. So Gruberova is THE standard and others will always be second. Of course, Popp is a good opera singer but she never was a great Queen IMHO. for sure MOzart's composition already delivers some music.-born aggressiveness but the Acting must fit to it.
After listening to so many awful performances by subpar sopranos who desperately try to sing this insanely difficult piece, this one is a voice of an angel. lol Pitch-perfect, literally. Bravo.

You should listen to Cristina Deutekom, her stage presence is immaculate, but if you want a powerfull voice alone Edda Moser is the real queen

RIP, la Divina. Not a great fan of her. But... the legacy is immense, there are really magical moments. She has contributed to the history of opera in her own original way. Her Roberto Devereaux's of late, walking on the verge of precipice and not falling into it, when technical fallacies serve for the mind-blowing characterization. The great among the greatest. Rest in peace, we will miss you

She really nails the pissed off Queen well! Even with the oh-so-slight tempo mistake, she gives a performance worthy of Mozart himself!!! And those triplets!!! Theres a reason this is one of the most difficult arias ever written!!!

My daughter and I heard some Opera Arias which were sung by Gruberova at Shibuya Orchard hall 20 years before. Especially I can't forget "Bell song" of Delibes. At my PC, She was singing an aria titled "A night queen" with her astonishing attractive voice. I had to admit this Mozart's aria was perfect. In Japan, there's a 107 years old lady who is an enthusiastic fan of Gruberova. And she is really still teaching high technique of the classical Japanese songs to the students. I think she's one of the most vivid women in the world.

Thank you for your polite reply. Next, I'd like to recommend "An aria of Lucia on the mad scene" by Donizetti. Gruberova will be 69 years old next year. So now I'm looking for newer remarkable prima donna. For example, Cecilia= Bartoli(mezzo soprano). By the way, Now in Japan A strange young singer has appeared. Her name is kyary pamyu pamyu. The title of the song which is sung by her is Ninjari bang bang=にんじゃりばんばん. She's 180 degree different from Edita Gruberova but I am interested in her unique music which reminds of the Techno-pop. Then I have to inform that great many Japanese are dancing at the song "Fortune cookie in love" of girl's group named AKB48. They can be found out
easily in 「UA-cam」.

Unfortunately, I couldn't understand your comment sufficiently because my ability of English is at the level of middle school's English textbook. but I am afraid that you don't support Gruberova's Night Queen or her everything. I'm sure that Gruberova possesses rich ,fluent, stable, well trained and little bit coquettish voices. Therefore、a Lucia's aria of Donizetti is the most suitable for her. These are always enchanting me. Those who think that Night Queen would be more fearful woman, would adopt Damrau than Gruberova. I admit that her singing is full of remarkable talent and realism. Comparing with her, certainly Gruberova would be too tender and too coquettish in order to be stronger Night Queen who rules millions of nights. And I love her !
