looking forward to seeing the upcoming 2024 vids. Thus far I'm seeing this books as being really helpful to new DM's and I'm glad to see a 10k foot view of Greyhawk
Personally, I hope that they release a true "boxed set" of greyhawk, akin to the forgotten realms boxed set from days or yore.. but.... I don't think that will happen.. I can still hope tho.
@gamemasters I saw upcoming this year they're supposed to be releasing and forgotten realms players guide and a forgotten realms campaign setting. This could be a return to the campaign settings hopefully
I use Part 2 of the 2014 DMG all the time to create new Adventures and to generate Random Treasure. I would like to know how the 2024 DMG improves or adds to that. I also wonder if Spell Points and Hero Points are still there, and if they got any changes, since I love those. What about the Teather of the Mind conversion of a spell's area of effect? Also something I use a lot. Lastly, how did they improve on Monster, Spell and Trap design? Thanks for the videos! Cheers!
I look forward to the new DMG. I like the tracking sheets and have a set of them printed already. I wonder if the magic item tracker is for the group or each player? If it is for the group I apparently give out too many items. If it is for each player then I think I'm in the ballpark.
it's really all up to you, if you feel that they (and you) would have more fun with zero magic items, then make anything like that super rare and perhaps give just 1 item per 10 levels, on the other hand, if you want to give them all 2 magic items at level 1, nothing wrong with that either. It's all up to how you want things to unfold.
@@swordsnstones the more I look at it, the more I like it, but I'm still not sure that an experienced DM really needs it. I'll have more to say in the near future.
I’m an old grognard but my reasons for not switching to the new edition is more about WotC than the new products. I like what I’m hearing about it but I will not support WotC. I also hate that they don’t call it a new edition like 5.5 or 6e.
It's a shame, from what I've seen this DMG is way way way more useful as an actual guide. For you know, DUNGEON MASTERS. Seriously how many of us actually read the 2014 one? I didn't. But even though I am squealing over how cute the little animals are, I'm concerned that the pastel cute critters are probably the wrong choice for the main target audience for dnd. I love it, but I also kinda want to see some Diablo 1 style presentation for my dnd. (So to speak I fully converted to DC20 which has little to no artwork [fine by me] but the cover of DC20 is still a tad cartoony for me}. Any one remember the art in the D1 strategy guide?
I've been vocal about the artwork in general. the content of it doesn't bother me at all, it's the _amount_ that I have an issue with. I'd rather see a full page of actual information that I can use instead of a full page of artwork. Yes.. yes.. a picture is worth a thousand words... I get that.. but in the context of D&D where players take the rules as law.. no harm can come from being clear with the rules that might be found within and if a piece of artwork needs to be removed so that clarification can be placed instead.. well.. that's my overall complaint.
@@gamemasters I bought the new DM screen because I love the D&D brand overall, but I am not a fan of the artwork My son loves the artwork, but he is 5 years old The art is more from like a Little Golden Books book I hope the artwork takes more of a Frazetta like turn in subsequent editions
The visuals for much of modern D&d, either looks like the cartoonish art style in made-for-all-ages mobile fantasy games, or something from female audience oriented western YA comics/trades. I don't think its a coincidence that we've also seen slice-of- life (ex: attending your prom, going to "Starbucks") stuff enter D&d at the same time. If that continues for the long run, I think this will have a "Nintendo effect" on D&d. In video gaming, Nintendo is seen as the soft, kiddish, less serious, "cartoon" realm of video game material, and so, many people with a more adult taste in tone and aesthetics seek their game-playing elsewhere (Xbox, PlayStation, PC, etc). ....and in typing this out, its come to me that I think this is part (there are obviously other elements too) of the backlash we've seen from the established D&d patronage toward modern / 5e D&d. From the 70s to 4e, D&d (as a game) has never been more "softened" than it has been since 5e. Someone might chime in and point to the D&d TV cartoon, well 1) that was _D&d_ fabricated through normie corporatism and made for normie consumption. It was a Saturday morning kids cartoon with the name D&d tacked on. 2) Most D&d players (at the time) either didn't pay attention to the D&d cartoon and/or they didn't incorporate anything about it into their games. Because even as kids - teens, they were playing D&d as it was written and visually presented in the books, which was much more M-rated.
@B42UC4 =) hahah, good question. I meant that it wasn't effective as a guide. I'd flipped through pieces looking for info. I never "read" it like cover to cover. Every time, though, I got the answers I was looking for elsewhere faster and more efficiently
Oh hell yeah ! New Game Masters vid !!!
I have a suspicion you are the real Max Headroom from back in 1987 that got on tv
@@gojirajenkins8528 I'd love to see Matt Frewer return to that character! I loved MH on MTV :)
Damp and dank odor were your gym shorts. You are supposed to wash them after you get home.

Man your beard is so epic.

@MichaelChadd interesting... I'll research this to see what it's all about.

that is a lot for a verbal reply. Let me work on the answers and I'll see what I can do to turn this (or at least some) into a video reply :)

I see these as being more for the DM, however, I _do_ give my player's tracker sheets if they want to use them.
@gamemasters I meant as a DM. If that is for each player or total group of what I should be handing out as loot?

Looks like just a bunch of homebrew material stuffed together. Doesn't even look like a revision of 2014
ALL of D&D from every edition has been homebrew material stuffed together.
