    Now that I've had a chance to try this, perhaps I understand why it intuitively looked so appealing to me. As I've mentioned before in these comments, I'm 62, and I notice a general tendency toward ... aging. Well, this is a complex lateral movement loaded with some weight. I tried it with a 12 kg kb. And the pattern of movement felt so good in my body, I think simply because neurons and muscles were moving in a young person's way of moving. I might do these every day now. :-)
    So if you're not into martial arts or boxing, don't let the title deter you from trying this out.

    A long time ago (before discovering your channel) I stumbled upon "weird" kb exercices like kb circles, side swings and juggling. I dismissed them as dangerous and lacking any interest. Your way of explaining the how and the why of each exercise and their relation/progression in regard to each other completely changed my mind. I am waiting for the next one!

      Same experience as you, alot of the rotational stuff I saw in old KB instructionals didn't click with me then, but years of experience swinging and pressing AND seeing Mark Wildman's approach to them have got me doing much more rotational work now than before

    I love combining the Kettlebell uppercut to waiters hold with the figure 8 movement. Thanks for the video!

    Not only uppercuts and hooks... it seems to me the reverse at the top would also help to strentgthen head control and some throws

    Every day I have nearly the same reaction to your videos Mark! So at the risk of being repetitive, wow! Didn’t know this one and it looks impressive

    Hello @MarkWildman
    I just received my first pair of 6 kg (something like 15lbs) indian clubbells and the sensation is amazing!So I just wanted to say thank you for the great introduction to Clubbels. I can already see the huge benefits of this kind of training,associated with kettelbells.If by any chance you travel in the south of France,you'll be my guest :)

    I'm just starting my first program using your 'Tetris' methodology.
    One thing that would really help is if I start with the 5 basic movements: Swing, Clean&Press, Snatch, TGU, Squats as my placeholders in the program, then when it comes to making substitutions for the sake of variety it would be great if you classified each of these new variations based on those 5 base movements. The law of conservation of time prevents me just adding them into the program. They need to replace something else. I just want to make sure I am making a correct substitution.
    In other words - I would classify this ('Kettlebell Upper cut outside swing') as a 'Swing', and therefore would use it as a substitute in my program for my 'Swing' placeholder.
    It would be great if you could classify all of the variations accordingly.
    Some of the 'swings' could be argued are a little closer to a 'Clean', so that's why I am curious as to how you would classify them.
    Keep up the great work on the videos!!

      Mark Wildman just an fyi. You only added 2/3 of the Q&A’s on the community page on your channel. The latest one is missing. I would suggest you add them all to a playlist instead. I think ppl would find them more easy.

    Thanks for another interesting KB exercise. I wonder if you can elaborate, in a future session, what your rationale is for a 4 kg step-up between KB weights (16-20-24 kg) where Pavel Tsatsouline recommends 8 kg steps. Are you aiming for quicker progression in the people you train?

    • @MarkWildman
      @MarkWildman  4 роки тому +6

      Smaller steps yields faster competence for most people. I want more reps for more movement experience to get less injury.

    I dismissed this when I saw it at first, I think Anthony DeLugia and Steve Cotter taught this or something similar back in the pre YT days
    Now that ive built up my KB skills for years I can give this a real go thanks man.
    Would you be able to turn it over more to simulate a long uppercut (like the Mike Tyson underhand jab), and if so would you straighten the catch arm at all?

    • @MarkWildman
      @MarkWildman  4 роки тому

      Seems possible. Try it out

    • @kcmacdonald
      @kcmacdonald 4 роки тому

      I gave it a go with a 15#, long uppercuts with no catch and long uppercuts with a straighter arm catch, over speed eccentrics and a relaxed uppercut felt great.
      Then I did 10x10 L+R regular uppercuts with a 53# and fell in love, it might be my new simple + sinister program gonna work up to my 63#
      I'll try to get some video of the long uppercut with 15#/25#/35#, I felt the serratus and lat loading up it was basically a perfect Muay Thai warmup

    Mark - how long would you recommend using the foot pattern you demonstrate in this video before progressing this into more of a boxing stance with a pivot to better mirror the hook/uppercut load from the feet?

    • @MarkWildman
      @MarkWildman  4 роки тому

      if you are a boxer, then i would match sets. 1 set symmetrical stance, 1 set left lead, 1 set right lead, then repeat.

      @@MarkWildman Not a boxer - wanted to be one when I was a kid, until I saw my favourite boxer put somebody into a coma and then I decided I didn't want to be in a coma, so I changed plans. I do incorporate boxing training into my routine, so very helpful advice. Thanks.

    I love it and as a martial arts I want to give it a try .
    I feel like it can put a load of stress and load on the biceps .
    Can you tell me about it ?

    • @MarkWildman
      @MarkWildman  4 роки тому +2

      It can. That’s why you always gotta work the basics and I like the club cross training. It prepares the bicep connection points for this type of load

    Could you pivot your feet at the top of the movement as in a real punch? More rotational power?

    • @MarkWildman
      @MarkWildman  4 роки тому

      Definitely. But I would do the no foot movement part first as a warmup for the hips and knees

  • @faithandfitness421

    So I tried it but I’m not sure if I’m doing it right or started to heavy but how much of this is arm and not momentum? Is it all from the side Swing or is there some arm that helps get the bell up?
