Atlas Shrugged was an eye opener to me in high school. I wasn't a believer at the time, but the truth about human nature was confirmation of what I had observed.
The Redwall series by Brian Jaques is my favorite series of all time. I read several of them to my kids as bedtime stories when they were little. Great adventure books!
There is also a short book called Harris and Me that was a great read. I laughed so hard I cried.
His obsession with food was a bit off-putting for me, but I did read about 30 of his books...
I think the most underrated book (and film) olderish kids need to read is Watership Down. Plus the amazing super well made film

One of my favorite books is Fahrenheit 451, and I’m surprised none of you brought that one up. It’s just as important as 1984, in my opinion.
I concur. I think it is one of the books every young adult should read before they go to college.

Armor by John Steakley is another top Sci-Fi book.
That Hideous Strength was my favorite of the space trilogy.
I love Mad at Gravity! I figure I was the only one that still listened to them.
That was a good shaving story! I remember a contributor to the Babylon Bee who had many stories even better than that. His name? Adam Yenser!!
Speaking of pulp sci-fi book covers, I have some really old copies of Perelandra and That Hideous Strength by C.S. Lewis from like the 80s that fit that cover description. Ironically the picture on the cover of That Hideous Strength is still used today, but the Perelandra one is a total trip. Much more Alfred Best-looking than C.S. Lewis.
I think the author you're looking for is Zelazny. He wrote the Amber Chronicles.
I love that you included The Silver Chair!! That one is my favourite of the Narnia books, and I wish people gave it some more attention!
A boy and his horse is the best "theology" book of Lewis.

It brings King Caspian to England as the only Narnian to cross the other way ❤ as a kid I just enjoyed the twists of friendly characters who turn out to be a villain (or brainwashed). On reflection, The Silver Chair is the book most like Tolkien and the Silmarillion's creation story is the part of Tolkien most like Lewis's allegories
Salem's Lot is my favorite Steven King novel that ticks the boxes mentioned in this video of: 1. being shorter, earlier story, 2. having an interesting underlying reflection on society, and 3. hitting the intersection of being relevant in the larger story of the Dark Tower series.

Read the version of Pride and Prejudice with Moray Watson as the father.
I think Alfred Bester's The Demolished Man must've influenced Bayblon 5. Walter Keonig brilliantly played Alfred Bester, a PsiCop, on the series.
Such a good book, Jarret! Rees Howells's story marked me as well back when I was in my 20s. How his Bible college change history during WW2. Soooo powerful!
The Aviators by Winston Groom. Covers Lindbergh, Doolittle and Rickenbacker. Great read.
So about Travis’ recommendation on the book about a guy living in two dimensions - I may be living in the dimension where this book doesn’t exist. Or I misheard the title or author’s name. Or I’m not good at googling. Any help would be appreciated.

I am really interested in the Realm of Two Regards but I can't find it anywhere. I don't see any books by Jason Rivers.
Same problem, are we both hearing him entirely wrong or is it just really obscure?
If you like gritty fantasy, check out The Black Company, by Glen Cook. It has a bunch of sequels of varying quality. The original is very good.
Love the recommendations! I may check out pride and prejudice, big fan of all of CS Lewis's works, two of my top five are crime and punishment and the brothers karamazov by Dostoyevsky
Cs Lewis Space trilogy needs movie trilogy. But read The Great Divorce.

It's the one case where I like the movie over the book. The Nautalis is just much cooler and James Mason does a phenomenal acting job.

I was a huge Stephen King fan (had an early edition of cujo) I had two shelves full of his books but got rid of them a few years ago. One day when I was reading one (can't remember which) it just didn't sit right with my conscience and I couldn't read anymore.
I do agree tommyknockers and pet semetary were good books. Cujo of course is a classic and after reading it you will dislike all the people and feel sorry for the dog.
I couldn't get into the gunslinger. I found it crude and i didn't like the amount of sexual situations in it.

shalom minute 24 and 25 . does any of you expact to see stephen king in heaven ? i loved the stand : - D but that is a horror writer , how does god feel about horror , does jesus want you to be afraid ? he died for that man , probably because it was nesecary . right ?
