Nice to see this old film I and others on my crew worked so hard on being preserved by someone who really cares about the final look. Yes the Disney company did an inferior job with most of their DVD and even Bluray comps which was heartbreaking to those of us who worked on so many of those old films in addition to seeing them projected correctly in the Studio theater when originally released.
One of my favourite things about this short are the cameos from other Disney characters like J. Thaddeus Toad, Horace Horsecollar, Clarabelle Cow, Skippy The Rabbit, Toby Turtle, The Big Bad Wolf, The Three Little Pigs, Chip and Dale etc.
I love seeing old cartoons preserved in such high quality. I recently started watching Batman TAS on Netflix and that show is so gorgeous it deserves to be in HD.
I adore this short version of a christmas carol. When the Spirit of Christmas Future shows what becomes of tiny tim, there's a moment where Mickey/Bob clutches the crutch to his chest before laying it on the tiny tombstone. The look of despair and grief is so well done. LIke, that's a subtlety of animation that only a master can acchieve.
I'm so jealous that you have a digitized version of this. It was on my Yearly-viewed home recorded VHS tape with Rudolph, Frosty, and Donald's snowball fight. I can't even watch my Blu-Ray of it... It looks great. For now, I'm stuck with one of the DVDs, which to me, looks SIGNIFICANTLY better than the Blu-Ray...
Wait...it's amazing that you were able to create a perfect digital version of Mickey's Christmas Carol. Way better than the Disney company could ever...at least think to make. However, are you just going to keep this masterpiece to yourself? Or are you going to figure out a way to share it with us, so we can all watch it? You said yourself that you did this whole project for us, but didn't say how we can watch it ourselves.
If there is a way to legally release it in its totality, I’m all for it. I’m just not sure the right way to go about it without meeting a Disney lawyer. Any ideas are certainly welcomewelcome
@@betweenthekeyframes There's bluray versions all over the internet to download for years and they were never taken down. The only difference is that they are in the 16x9 format and yours is 4x3 open matte. Yours is the theatrical version and theirs are the digital versions. But, still owned by the same company. Why restore anything if it can't be seen and enjoyed by others. Disney has no desire to restore it, because they prefer the 16x9 version.
Another win for DVD lol I am fine wiht a bit of moving. I have been watching media from all throughout the years in my life, begining with Laurel & HArdy when I was in preschool. GOod to be preserving and making sure the full film is brought properly into modern media, though ,so thanks for your efforst and great job ^
My favorite is: A Christmas Carol, 1982, produced by Burbank Films Australia. Why? First one I saw, a long long time ago... For that one from Disney, I'm impressed how vintage it looks and sounds for a production from the 80s, like a truly historical or timeless animation.

I am guessing it might be since it should also be the one released on VHS, which also includes the making. All of which was presented in stereo. We just recently watched the Bluray version this year and I was surprised to see a wide screen version. Now I know it was cropped, and we were ripped off! Thanks again. - Toronto, Canada. PS: Now that it has been scanned I wonder if there are others who would want to preserve the original film, as many teams of dedicated fans have scanned a 4K copy of the original Star Wars film from 1977. I have seen them, Both the Untouched "Grindhouse" version, and also Ver1, and Ver2 which added some DDR Filters to take away some of the grain which originally was heavy at times. And also all the scratches etc. Colour corrected. It's the best version of Star Wars ever! The one George Lucas said did not exist. That upsets me.

The transfer available on Disney+ is hedious, completely ruined it for me, and this has always been my favorite christmas film. Why is disney mistreating its classics I'll never understand. The transfer of Sword in the Stone is another example of a poorly executed HD transfer.
The blu-ray shouldn’t shake but the dvd from the Disney treasures collection has a weird micro jittery effect. The whole frame moves left to right that bothers me a lot.

In what region is BTAS on Netflix? It doesn’t seem to be on there in the US.

Yep, it is on Disney Plus, but it's the Blu-ray version.

Good luck getting this film A proper restoration, and convincing Bob Iger to get it through. You might get lucky if Nelson Peltz gets on the board.
I doubt my efforts will work, but who knows, maybe someone on staff will watch this and pass it up the chain :)
