They're water based so you can add a little water, chop it up with a butter knife. Put the cap back on, let it sit overnight and next day stir it up well and it's back to a creamy consistency.

Thank you Sherry for this tip. I have done this to MANY novo mousses and got really angry because of the $$$ these cost. Even my TCW Fluffy modeling paste did this...added a little water, stirred it up and VALAHH back to normal.

I just did water with mine. Put a little hot water in last night before bed. It was really hard before and had softened quite a bit this morning but still had some hard places and I was doubting that I could get the lumps out. But I took a dinner knife and mashed them around a little bit. There were still hard places on the bottom so I scrapped those off with the knife and added a little more water…checked them again about 2 hours later still had some lumps so I just mashed those with the knife and they softened right up. I think my jar has a better consistency now than it did when I 1st bought it. It is just like butter now. I’ll have to careful not to over apply. Thank you so much for the water tip!

I bought one new for the first time. It was sealed and hard as a rock 😮 gonna try the water technique. I was so excited to try it… gotta be patient and wait a day now.

Yep, I have a stack of these, all dried up on me. I had some luck by putting vegetable glycerine over the top and sealing it back up for a few days. Not perfect, but workable. I love this idea, immediately thought of doing rubbings with them....hmmm. Thank you Kelly

For the record I bought 2 like 2 years ago lol and I didn't know they would dry they were still in the package and today I opened them and they were hard. I came here read that its water based and yes I did that I'm stirring it with a plastic knife and water.
IT WORKED! now I can have a good consistency for painting again. 😘

I'd suggest that if you're adding water to these, use distilled water to help prevent mould

how interesting - i don't own these but after seeing what you just did on the paper - would you then be able to rub over that with something like a mineral oil to blend them together - boy would that make a beautiful background - thanks Kelly

Hi Kelly, when Deco Art sent me these to try out they were all dry 🤨. I used a wet scruffy brush & got them to work, but it’s been awhile since I’ve used them. Wonder if Orderless Mineral Sprits would work? ( it blends colored pencils & crayons ) Maybe it can work with these too? Have to try your tip but knowing me, I’ll just make a Big Mess...LOL TYFS I Love You my Beautiful Sister 🥰❤️❤️❤️

I’ve found that spraying some water and then closing the lid reconstituted the ones I have ...but mine weren’t AS dry as hers

You can actually spray them with water and rub with your finger

Hi, I just got some decoart wax, and tried to use it on a wood turning. I don't know if I put it on too thick, I could not see the grain. What would you suggest? I don't know if I can thin it with water, mineral spirits, etc. Should it be wiped on, brushed? I am just trying to add a little color to my turnings. Thanks for any advice that you can give me, or if you can point me in a direction where I can.

Just add a few drops of water, put the top back on and leave for a few days. It will soften right up.

Why do they mold? And how fast do they harden? I just bought a few, now I think I should return them. What should I get to replace these? Thanks for this video! It’s a great one!🙏👋🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟💗💓

    • @knittingandthings

Ok. Someone told me to use warm water if they harden and it will resoften so I’m going to try that. Why they mould..... idk. I have Elmer glue sticks that have moulded too. Maybe moisture gets in them ? I love them otherwise and I wouldn’t return them. They add such a nice touch and layer to art. Otherwise just metallic paint and a brush. Folk art has brushed metal paint and treasured gold which are awesome. At least try one and see if u like before u return plus if they mould write the company
