We recently adopted an 18 month Pyrenees male. We are his 4th home. We have always had Kangal dogs and have a 4 year old female now. Bear is so different from our Kangals. But has been wonderful in his role as a guardian. So many people are getting LGDs with no idea of what is necessary, or how much drive to guard is in them. Giving Bear the home where he can be what he was meant to be is very rewarding. If you have LGDs, think about renewing your pack with a rescue. We need them and they need us.
There is no dog more noble than a guardian dog. If I was in better health I'd have another Sarplaninac tomorrow. Two in fact to replace the Mr & Mrs team that passed away in 2020 (the big male, Oscar) and Zara, the female, in 2021. They were 11 and 12 respectively. Dylan helps to ease the pain of their loss. Dylan is a rather silly and very adorable 2 year old Bernese mountain dog. And a proper villain he is too. Your dogs are gorgeous.
I just have to tell you that you do an amazing job! I come from 20 plus year of teach dogs how to be social in a daycare environment and your approach is SPOT on!!! You set them up to succeed and see each dog for the individual that they are! Thanks for sharing your pack with us!!
Adopted my “Buddy” 36 hours ago! He’s a joy! The most sweet, perfect pup we could’ve asked for. He seems like he’s dang near potty trained! He does so well with that and being around food and other dogs. So excited to see how big he gets. God bless y’all!
Nice. Sisters are special. My first two, Koda and Kyra were great pyrenees sisters. I was blessed to have them here from 8 week old pups to teenagers. I love sisters. Now I have Ruthie and Esther as sisters. They are best friends. Enjoy your sisters. :)
They'll all so freaking cute! Thanks for sharing! I rescued a GP pup from a Mississippi flea market, held monthly, where sellers dump the unpurchased pups in the woods when the flea market winds down. 🤬 When I saw that "Anton" would not be purchased, I swooped in and got him. Best $25 I ever spent. Now, Anton is living his best life, directly on the Niagara River, six miles after the Falls.
I feel the same way about Rottweilers and support the charitable rescue "Rottweiler Rescue and Rehoming New Zealand" here in Auckland. How essential it is to know the base nature and drive of your dog's breed. I'm getting on in years now and am on the list to adopt a senior or special needs dog. 95% of adoptees are under 2 years of age.
Many years ago l dtayed at a wellness retreat. Thay had MAREEMERS They were amazing. They were sort of therapy dogs. And the guests vould put their names on a list for them to sleep in your cabin with you at might. It was an experience l eill never forget. Wonderful ❤❤❤
We adopted a Great Pyrenees puppy 2 years ago. He's so sweet and loves people especially children 💕 He's our family dog not a livestock guardian but he's the most friendly and wonderful companion that we ever had.❤❤❤
Awwww, I love that little tyke 😍Barnabas😍. It tickled me how David smelled the chewy ear before taking it. My Minnie has to smell everything first before taking it, whereas Maisy will either take it or leave it.
Barnabas is so precious. Fluffy little sweetie pie. I’m so in love with all of your dogs. I love all of their Biblical names as well. God bless and protect you and your wonderful farm pets 🙏❤️🙏
How do you not just bite Barnabus's fat little feet? He is so cute, I couldn't contain myself. I love the outpouring of love you have for all these sweet animals. I wish more people would not set their animals up for failure by putting them in situations that could turn problematic, so when you said that I was so impressed.
I have a mixed maremma..2 and a half years old. In the city... Like you said outdoors she is very layed back but at home not very accepting since she is a guardian. What an adorable puppy!!! I am sure they will acceot him once he is older

Thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it, and I hope you will enjoy the other videos. Those are the nicest compliments thank you. I used to have a Doberman who I love dearly. Sadly, he passed away at the young age of eight, the youngest dog I ever had passed away that young. I think it was a heart attack that just happened in my living room as he slept. How amazing that you spent 35 years with Dobermans. That’s awesome.
He’s so sweet ❤ I wish I could’ve had my Ridgebacks around the ducks, horses and cows from puppyhood. I got them when they were older and it’s taking longer to get them accustomed

Tacoma is full Akbash. David is half akbash and half great pyrenees. Their adult pups are 75% Akbash and 25% Great Pyrenees. Barnabas is 70% Great Pyrenees, 25% Akbash and 5% Anatolian. There are many of the lgd breeds in addition to great pyrenees and Akbash such as kuvasz, maremma, etc.
I have an Akbash/Pyr mix. Barnabus is adorable, he’s Rockin the helmet head. Curious about what the ear treats you gave out, they don’t look like rawhide, are they and if not where did you get them. Are they wholesome rewards like the box says? Love seeing your videos!
We just got a 8wk GP puppy to protect our pigs and goats. They’re free range in fenced off 5 acre pasture behind our house. My husband read online that we shouldn’t introduce him to our 5 house dogs (all Australien Shepherds). I feel we should because they’re outside when I’m out and when weather permits.
I would introduce him to all the dogs and the whole family. 8 weeks is such a youngster and they need so much nurturing and love at that age. For sure he's way too young to be out alone with goats and pigs, not even for an hour. Especially if he doesn't have a dog friend and mentor out there. I'd bring him in the house and treat him well and in return when he's older you will have a much more happy and well adjusted guardian dog.
Hi! This is the first video I've seen of yours and it's really good. I'm planning to have a larger livestock guardian dog team on my homestead and I want to ask, are your dogs fixed? If not, how do you avoid accidental litters?
I have the males neutered since the procedure is less invasive than getting the females spayed. I hope you have great success with your larger team. Thanks for watching.
I also name my animals biblical names. I currently have a Scottish terrier named Caleb and a Sealyham terrier named Justus Acts 1 vs 23. I thought you might like Justus. I used to have Mastiffs growing up but as I’m older now I choose a smaller breed now. The following names are ones I had for my mastiffs this is over my years: Canaan King David Michael Sarah Rebekah Rachael I also had two horses: an Arabian mare I named Rayhab the harlot. I called her Ray as in ray of light. She was breed just before I got her and her colt I named Song of Solomon. All I loved very much. I still have it in my head that I would like to a large breed dog again. Maybe someday unless Maranatha! I enjoy watching your dogs very much and the puppy is gorgeous.
Like your Biblical names!! I rescued a pup whose Mom was Great Pyr and Border Collie. The Dad was a lonely cattle dog!!😩 It's difficult to sort out which behaviors go with which breed. Banjo is an excellent guard dog but he will not tolerate bullying by my old German Shepherd. There have been fights so I have to separate them. He hasn't shown aggression towards people who are allowed on the property, but I know that he would defend and protect me! I have always had G Sheps prior to adopting Banjo. I am 75 and getting a bit long in the tooth to be making these challenging changes!! All of my dogs are spayed or neutered. I was wondering about yours.
A little OT but seeing you feed them it occurred to me that you must have a significant dog food expense. Have you asked your accountant about listing the dog food $ on your schedule "C" together with the other alpaca expenses?
I bought 3 month old GP pups about 6 weeks ago and they're dong good, in my opinion. My problem concern is I have a 2 year old Husky that is HYPER than anything. I'm trying to figure out how to introduce them without her distracting them...?? They're now 4 months old... how soon before I can let them roam at night by themselves?
Hi. I'd introduce them with a fence between them first to see how it goes. For pups that young, I wouldn't let them out roaming all now unless you are sure no predators will get in your fencing to get them.
Most dogs will be a little nervous around puppies. In fact, many domesticated pets will be nervous around a new "baby" in their territory. This is perfectly normal and it wears off quickly with proper introductions as you've done. You may have to keep it up for a while, but it'll pass. He will integrate. It can take from a couple of days to a couple of weeks and sometimes, a couple of months until you can trust he will be safe without you. It all depends on the pack's general nature. I've experienced this with many species. There is one main and sensible reason for why animals do this. Namely: If there's a baby, there may be a mama....and we all know a mama can be very dangerous protecting her babies. It's really as simple as that. Domesticated doesn't mean they've completely forgotten wild instincts. As such, they prefer to avoid that baby and perhaps even warn it off. I rarely worry about a few turned up noses, snorts or growls when a new one comes home. It rarely amounts to much (but I'm still there to keep the peace). A good pack will fall into place in its own time and when the pack leader is doing it right, it happens faster. Welcome Barnabus! You hit the jackpot with your new home, kiddo. ♥
Yes. Everything is on their timeframe and not mine. I expected that, and they are all accepting him more and more. Three are even starting to play with him.
Hey great video! I am new here and I don't know much about you but I really hope that you guys don't kill your animals to "farm" them or harm them. If that's not the case...damn thats an awesome place to live for the animals!
Thank you. He was dna tested before leaving the rescue so still waiting to hear the results when they come in. He was believed to be great pyrenees. I think some akbash too even if the test doesn't pick that up and sometimes it doesn't. He was born on a sheep farm, and he's definitely a guardian dog and just perfect no matter what the breed ends up being.
Barnabas is absolutely adorable. I love his helmet head and those massive paws. I’m going to guess he’s going to be big like David. I love the way he already has the digging a hole down pat. Can’t wait to watch Barnabas grow up. Congratulations on your new LGD.
I have both Akbash and Great Pyrenees. I love the Akbash breed, and also the great Pyrenees as I'm sure I would love Maremma too. But this is what I have and I'm very happy with each one.
Good Barnabas! I always worry the most that dogs have problems if one tries to take a chewy yummy from another. It doesn't sound like Barnabas did that? If he did I'm sure an older dog of yours would let him know without really being aggressive.
My big dogs don't take chewys from each other but I do think the big dogs will discipline and educate Barnabas as he grows and learns. It's how they teach and mentor.
Aw i love them all ❤
He’s adorable and I’m in awe how you all communicate and respect one another. Barnabus is a lucky guy to land there.
Thanks so much.

Your dogs are gorgeous.
It's so hard when they leave us. Sorry for your loss. I'm glad you have Dylan.
David looks like he was personally designed to look like a dad
That's so funny to me and also a good description of him. haha.
You really are very knowledgeable in running a pack! Amazing.
Thanks.
Those dogs are huge lol
That kiddo has enormous paws!
Barnabas is a polydactly with extra toes in the back. Not just double dew claws but actually two extra toes which make for extra big paws.
The most gentle guardians 🥹☺️
He is the cutest lil pup!
Thank you. I think so too!
Barnabus lies down to eat his treats. Mine do that too.
I love when they do that.

Sounds like you have great memories with your childhood Pyrenees!
Such beauties.

Love the positivity. Thank you for the uplifting video. New subscriber here.

Barnabas is a year and a half now and they all get along great.

Love those little guys. My first great pier was a pup. Like little bears. But. They grow up. Great name.
I agree, they are little little bears. Polar bears. Thanks.
Man, those dogs are MASSIVE, couldn't imagine any robbers would survive after facing them 😯😲
Puppy is cute! ❤😊
Wonderful guardians!

Hello this is the first time I have seen your channel pop up, and I watched it. I love your Pack, and it was especially fun to see that it was the Pups' first time meeting everyone. I saw one of these in the middle of the highway a few weeks ago, luckily there were some people parked on the side, i pawned him off on them lol
I hope he’s ok. Glad he didn’t get hit by a vehicle.
OMG! He's cute! I can't stand it he's so cute.

The ears are pig ears from our local feed store. I think the helmet head stage though is still yet to come.
Imagine great pyreness plus border collie at the farm it will be wonderful 😭😇🥰😍😘
We don’t need animals herded here so I stick with the livestock guardian dogs.

Barnabas is absolutely adorable. I love his helmet head and those massive paws. I’m going to guess he’s going to be big like David. I love the way he already has the digging a hole down pat.
Can’t wait to watch Barnabas grow up. Congratulations on your new LGD.
Why do you use the Great Pyrenees instead of the Maremma...???

What bread are these dogs? Who can answer me?Thank you.
They are Great Pyrenees and Akbash
