  • While we were working on our list of the 100 best singles of 1984, Boy George popped by the Rolling Stone offices and offered his thoughts on a few of our selections. Watch the "Karma Chameleon" (Number 22!) singer remember hits like Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the U.S.A." - "It was so American and so rousing!" - and U2's "Pride (In the Name of Love)" - "They were just amazing, amazing." He also tells us of the time he went to Radio City Music Hall to check out Madonna's first major tour and ends by explaining why the success of some of these records could never be repeated.

Boy George is right about things moving so fast these days. The 80's really was the best decade for music and will never be duplicated.

Jason Isaacson I agree completely! I don't understand why so many people hate 80s music.

@@arielanderic I'm personally not a huge fan of 80s music because I dont like that heavy drum noise that was considered 80s pop BUT strangely enough I recently discovered like 12 songs I love..not knowing they came from the 80s. Sme of them are culture club songs!!

George is so right about the 80s. Doesn't look like there too many positive things ahead of us in music. Thank you Boy George for all the wonderful memories that you and CC contributed. (Still listening after all these years.) ;-) ;-) ;-)

Beautiful eyes! Perfect eyebrows! I think Boy George's answer was a bit elusive about Careless Whisper. He and George Michael were somewhat competitors in the 80's. I love those two talented Georges! RIP, GM!!!

My god he hit it right on the bullseye. Everything is so fast nowadays.. If an artist is on the charts for 10 years straight today that is considered a long time today. And I agree with him 100% on songs today lasting and becoming classics like we had in decade's before. Record companies today prefer on promoting a young face that can barely sing than a true artist who has remarkable talent. Most of these artist today don't have remarkable talent. They just happened to get lucky. They have no idea what it is to sweat and work hard at there craft like artist from years ago did. Especially black artist from the 60's where they could not sleep in the very own hotels they were performing at because the color of there skin and had other shows to do the next day miles away. Very few artist perform a whole concert live these days. That is why I can't see myself paying $500 dollars for a concert ticket when half of the show is being lip synced. Pretty soon people are going to see infants performing on stage cause artist are getting younger and younger with lesser talent these days. I mean if Britney Spears made millions anyone can. Thar girl can't sing if her life dependent on it!!!

i was 12 in 84, i would give anything to be able to go back and experience that time period again at different ages of my life and see how i would have felt. i turned 8 in 80 and graduated high school in 90, and i loved growing up in that time. and i will always argue and maintain that the 60s and the 80s were the two most creative and fertile decades in music. so much creativity so much exploration so much boundary breaking and genre expanding. and then the 90s and its one note alt rock.

Yah i like the early 90s better. Last time of classic music like Mariah Careys 'Emotions " or Shanice "I love your smile"

      Sorry for bad English(I'm Japanese)......
I'm glad to see how energetic he is recently.
Everytime I think about he and other 80s stars, I think people had better make a mistake at young age.

I can't just believe this people!!!! Boy George it's not death. He stoppedto record songs and still make a performance here and there in London...But he's not death. I know a lot of people that didn't like him because the way he used to is. He's one of the kind and unique. Good luck George 😃
