    One week ago, after this video was filmed, I chopped H. spartioides into 3 segments, which I am currently trying to root, if I'm successful, I will document the process in a how-to video - Fingers Crossed!

      @@DougChamberlainVTHoyas, thank you for your response. I am truly sorry to hear that. Hoya Spartiodes is the hoya I am mostly astonished by. If I manage to get my hand at some, I am happy to send one over that you can give it another attempt.

    Sure is different. What if you tried layering one pentacle? Other types grow roots when pieces hit the ground.

    hi would like to ask what soil mixture did you use? I've just got mine and its turning yellow and plopped off the stem. thanks

    • @DougChamberlainVTHoyas
      @DougChamberlainVTHoyas  4 роки тому +1

      This is a Hoya that would do best in well rinsed coir chunks and watered when pretty dry and kept in a very humid environment. That would be my best guess. I killed my a long time ago when I tried to propagate it.

    Hi Doug, if you could recall it. What medium do u use for spartioides?

    • @DougChamberlainVTHoyas
      @DougChamberlainVTHoyas  Рік тому

      If I were to grow this one again, I would use mostly coconut husk chips with a little perlite thrown in. I kept it in a peat-based medium which held too much water.

      @@DougChamberlainVTHoyas So this hoya likes to be slightly dry between watering? Based on your experience, what's the distance between the plant and growlight?

    • @DougChamberlainVTHoyas
      @DougChamberlainVTHoyas  Рік тому

      @@andy0995 Yes, let it go just slightly dry between waterings, and I kept my plant around 18 inches below the lights.

    Hey Doug, sorry for commenting on an old video. I'm currently considering getting a pretty large and healthy looking specimen of this for about 80 euros, but I'm hesitant as to my ability to give its the conditions it requires. It would have to grow under strong LED grow lights plus filtered daylight with humidity that doesn't gow lower than 50% and usually sits around 55% in winter. The temps range from 60F at night to 75F during the day. Would it be worth giving it a shot? If so, since I've read it doesn't like to dry out, is this Hoya suited for a self-watering pot & lechuza? And finally, what have your insights been on propagations since this video? Thanks in advance!

    • @DougChamberlainVTHoyas
      @DougChamberlainVTHoyas  4 роки тому

      Hi Peiter, I lost this plant early on from chopping it up and trying to propagate it so I don't think I have reliable answers to most of your questions. It may very well be a candidate for Lechuza and self watering pots, I would have given that a try if I still had it. The best you could hope for with humidity that low would be hibernation in the winter, as it is similar to imbricata in its need for high humidity. Unfortunately, the only way to get answers to most of your questions would be to bite the bullet, and give it a try.
