My door locks were a pain, I ended up buying new locking mechanisms as you did,,,,, cost £80 each.
Spent 2 days fitting them only to find out they still didnt work.
The car would not lock/unlock or immobilise the security, so the car would not start, alarm would sound, flashing security light.
After 2 weeks messing about with everything, I found on both doors that a wire had snapped where the harness goes through the door jam, into the car, inside the rubber boot.
I had to disconnect all of the wires from the doors to slide the boot out enough to replace the damaged wires.
Strange that the same wire broke on both doors, obviously due to flexing strain.
But I can (after almost a month) now use my fob to open and lock the car. it now starts straight up.
So the door lock must send a signal to the immobiliser to turn it on,,,off.
    Oh the joys of TFs

Nicely done for sorting it. Can't always get it right first time 😀 You're right - bit of a coincidence having the same issue on both sides.
