Camp De Masque Mauritius is a great day out that makes you happy

- From the giant pineapple to the abundant street foods and welcoming locals, this is a village that makes you happy. A stroll around the huge La Unity chimney, walking the back streets, eating on the street, looking at the mountains, or exploring the dirt roads for greenhouses is all in this great day out.
The start was a huge pineapple that lead us into the town where we found easy parking. The first stop was dhal puri served by friendly Ravin. He gave us a look at his kitchen and explained that he used to work at the top hotel in Mauritius, the Oberoi. He started his business a year ago and is so glad he did, as it is going from strength to strength. We were also glad, as his dhal puri was great.
We then strolled down the road and got some samosas and a chili bite. The non-tourist villages know how to add a hot chili. More views of the street life lead us to a motorbike selling pudding "pudding coconut powder" Riki giggled like a schoolgirl as we tucked into our sago, tapioca, maize jellies.
Off down a side street where the houses have tiled walls. We got invited into a tailor shop where they were making men's fashion pants. It was a fascinating look into the back street industry. Further down the street I told the story of how Camp De Masque got its name and then we were off to the tallest chimney in Mauritius after a short stop at the not very teal Teal river.
La Unity is so impressive, words do not do her justice. I have yet to see such craftsmanship in stonework. There was an odd building that had steps leading up to windows, at the time I thought it was very bizarre, but on reviewing the footage I did notice the old door hinges.
Our final stop was a greenhouse farm. It was huge and I now know why tomatoes are so cheap here. We drove down a very bad dirt road and ended up in the wrong place, I'm guessing. I have never seen so much industrial agriculture in Mauritius. I explained why the bananas and pineapples from the region are the best, and showed a very sweet pineapple.
I closed out the trip with a short musical number as it's a new song were are trying out and I would appreciate any feedback.

Nice video. Camp de Masque looks like a great unspoilt village. You have no idea how you made me feel with my cheese sandwich in Bedfordshire , UK whilst you guys were tucking in scrumptious dall puris, chilli bites, samosas and mouth-watering maize and coconut puddings !!
I'd kill for a cheese sandwich haha, no chance, the street food here has gotten better over the last few year.
I have been there Rikki and Bryanfamiliy and friend live there about 500 mtr from the tower.
It is a great place and that tower is huge.

At the moment there is no news when they will open fully, but we are hoping for August. We will do a video when we have more information.
@@BryanDiscoversWorld thank you so much . I also think that the full opening will not be before the month of August. I must still arm myself with patience.
Best gato piment in Mauritius, be sure to check out the waterfall too next time!
I will thanks
Where is the waterfall please? Had a little look on Google maps but couldn't find it. Found a video of the waterfall though! Is it near to the "Waterfront"? - near Teal river? We're due to visit Mauritius in 5 weeks and we LOVE waterfalls! Also; do you know the name of the mountain in the background? Thanks 🙏🏾
Great video Bryan. The yellow pudding is made from corn but can't remember the red one.
On another note, when did you film this?
Thanks for the info on the pudding. a few weeks ago
Nice people , Nice mountain, Nice food but not so nice architecture .
Yes, true, and we looked.
Well I have been to Mauritius a few times and there are a lot of architecture but it depends where Ricki and Bryan visit. This is a very small and old village I believe.
Do you know the name of the mountain? Thanks 🙏🏾
I see brinzelle don masala
where was that
pudine mais or corn maize pudding . The pudding is made with coarse corn powder, milk, custard powder, sugar, water, vanilla flavour or other fruit flavours. Sprinkle of desiccated coconut on top. Google corn maize pudding recipe from Mauritius. Yummy
Thanks for the recipe. I'll check it out
You must be very hot by eating so much chillies 🤣🤣.. Mais pudding is sooo delicious. I think the red one was mixed with food colour.
The chili was hot, but I'm getting better at eating it. The pudding was great
My school is there
I must have missed it
Its actually made from corn
Thanks for the info, they taste great
@@BryanDiscoversWorld ask reetish for jam made from Chinese guava
@@headlinesgenerator5426 He sent me some it is awesome

I have told my Mauritian girlfriend (ex girlfriend, thank God) and her family that I am not looking after them anymore. So they are returning to Mauritius and want a place to stay and people to look after them. I told them about you two. Hope that's ok. Hope you will still have time and money left for trips.
No problem, the trips are overrated anyway😂😂
@@BryanDiscoversWorld They dont eat too much. Just one ton of food a month. Each.
