Thanks for showing us all the "trade secrets" of how to install on of these dash set up's and how to do it properly. Even though i don't own a Toyota I'd still be interested to learn about the high beam/flash relay setup as i think i may have fallen foul of that in the past and passed it on to someone else to sort out. Thanks Haltech and Dave for these videos.
Did this in my R33 a while back. I loved the fuel gauge bit was configurable! I was able to trace the ribbon wiring on the back of the instrument cluster to find the pin outs. Also, pro tip, the blinkers and random things won’t work if your “Hazard” switch/module isn’t plugged in! I’m stoked to mount one in my new R33 GTR project on the dash with an R34 MFD style mount.
That's on my Xmas list now..will finish the project off nicely..looks epic. Just need your haltech ecu to plug and play in my rx8 and run the omp ... Maybe it's going to to a full install in 2024 building ecu harness and ic7 harness..🤔 Haltech keeping my wallet empty one step at a time..love it.. Keep up the epic work Stay safe guys..😎
Great vid Dave. Hot tip for young players, most toyotas and other manufacturers high beams are negatively triggered. Easy way around this is with a relay :)
Damn it Dave!! 🤣🤣 i honestly was just wishing I could see a vid for wiring up indicators and lights and this pops up thanks mate!! Glad i follow you guys!!
Great video, i just would recommend is putting the charge light bulb somewhere nice to display to the driver. maybe a tiny hole in the at the side with a red tint over it.
You guys are so smart wish we had technicians like you in the UK - my FD3S hasn’t run for ten years and no garage will take my money to update the electrics.
@@haltech thanks, no garage will touch my car because its modified (badly) by other garages - the only two garages that have quoted are only willing to do a complete tear out and chassis up rewire with all new everything and the quotes are around 12k which is more than my FD3S is worth. My car has been advertised for sale for 3 years with no offers in that time, the market values my car at zero unfortunately due to it having upgraded parts and modifications - my aim is to sell the car and I believe showing the car on track and at events and getting it road legal might help me finally move the car on to a new owner. Since I wont be using the car myself I have chosen a more budget equipment supplier (ECU Master) with the skill/labour shortages and lack of help from any garages the ECU/dash display/PDM etc will sit in their packaging perhaps years as I try to figure out how to fit them all myself so I figured cheaper is better.
Thanks for being awesome Dave. The amount of electrical cringe on UA-cam has been reduced by your proper use of tooling, technique and brass crimps. And the engineer brand nk16 flush cutters are the cherry on top! 🍒😎👌
Top video Dave great work as usual, would love to see an in-depth video on just fuel level wiring setup and calibration. Hear so many people having issues and not understanding the calibration side of it seems to be the hot topic.
@Dave Forrester Hey Dave Would you guys be able to create some more default IC7 layouts? Is there a plan to integrate a GUI editor into the ICC Software? I feel like there is so much potential with the IC7 but we are limited to a handful of pre defined layouts and no ability to customise them other change changing what channels are displayed, or changing the background image... I've actually started learning how to modify the layouts using QT Editor because I was so unhappy with the default layouts provided. Also, it would be incredible if we could have multiple variable conditions for alarms. Example, IF RPM > 5000 AND Oil Pressure < X Then trigger an alarm. So many alarms I'd love to have, but with only 1 variable it's not possible... Is Haltech looking at improving/upgrading those items mentioned in the future?
I thought I wired in my high beams properly in my chaser but doesn’t show on the dash while everything is working. Thanks for the tip about the relay Dave, was scratching my head.
Hi Cody, that chaser highbeam has properly done my head in before. I'll put a diagram together for that one. There must be a relay in the factory Cluster for it.
awesome vid, and helped a lot with my dash install. any chance we could have an updated short vid that includes how to make the Battery and oil warning symbols to work, maybe some information on how to connect an oil pressure switch as per OEM dashes. there doesnt appear to be any information officially on this and through lots of searching ive still not got to a definitive answer.
Keep the Nismo cluster! I had an IC-7 in my R33 where the factory cluster belongs, and it’s almost too far away. I am planning on mounting an IC-7 in my new R33 on the dash above the Radio like an R34 MFD style. Mako Motorsports in Australia is working on a mount currently!
I’m rarely happy with the crimps I get from the red handle simple crimpers, I found that I can use the Sargent ratcheting crimper for weatherpack terminals on those brass splices with 2 18ga wires and it works perfectly. (The wires break before pulling out of the crimp)
Thank you !!! Look Simple and straight forward. I have a question if use the positive from the highbeam wire going to the lights instead of the cluster wire from the switch for toyota would the voltage going in be to high or would it be able to receive the 12volt without hurting the unit? Thanks..
It would be super handy if you could use the IC7 as a analog input for Lights, wipers, ign off the column controls and then relay that input to your Nexus R5 or PD16. Then you just have an single CAN, As opposed to running 8-10 wires from the R5/PD16 up to the column.
What’s the trickery with the relay for the high beams? I think that is what’s going on with my R32 GTR. I wired the positive into the dash, but it only works when I pull and hold the lever.
Great video Dave. I love your 'nothing is a oroblem' attitude. Just wondering why you didn't remove the steering wheel so you didn't need to reach around it? Looks like it had a quick release hub.
Thanks Dave - could you give a quick summary on the fuel level setup for this R33 GTR? Did you end up wiring it from the connector on the pump and which figures did you refer to on the voltage level? Thanks!
when any given alarm is setup does it give you an audio alarm also, like a buzzer/beep or something or is there a way to wire a buzzer into the system that would get you some audio alert ? I downloaded the ic7software today to tinker with😎
hand brake is definitely something I would want an alarm on and I would like the alarm to stop when hand brake is released, Will it do that or would I have to clear it on the dash somehow? I have bad habit of forgetting to release it ,mine is on the back of the transfer case. Leave it on once and pads need to be replaced ay about $50 a pop
Since you werent, or "if you aren't", using the factory clocks anymore, could you have just de-pinned those signals going to the old cluster sockets and re-terminate them to the IC-7 socket?
I can't believe they don't have a resistor integrated into the dash to simulate an alternator charge light, and have it also activate a warning on the dash if its not charging...
@@TwistTapeTechnology yeah I was just using switched power from my under hood fuse box to turn on my LS alternator on my Forged Rb25 build. Several ways to skin a cat. I get what you are saying though. Would be a nice feature, but very easy to overcome and monitor.
Hey Dave, ripper vid. Question, I just installed an IC7 in my E36 BMW race car running a Link G4+ pnp ECU. I wired the fuel sensor into the haltech plug and hooked into the CANbus on the Link. Do you have a video on how to configure the fuel level at all on the IC7? And what CAN ID should I be using with the Link G4 preset on the IC7? Thanks in advance.
Can all the other configurable inputs on the dash's Superseal connecter be used as additional inputs to the ECU? Or are they only inputting to the dash?
The Vauxhall Nova here in England had a hazard switch where if you pulled it out flipped it 180 and put it back in , it would power up the ignition and off you went 😂
I have a bare shell car. no factory harness and am interested in how i do the lights and turn signals with a Haltech Hatrness? do I need digital lights? I want to use the stock steering column.
Hello so i just bought a used Haltech Platinum pro and got this dash. I also have R33 GTST but mine is series 1. ECU will still work with igniter or need to get different coils?
Dave, I see Newark Electronics for US crimp source... I've been a customer since '86. Thanks for the details. Question: When you wire an engine bay, do you make sub-harnesses (fuel injectors, C.O.P., etc.) or just use the main harness?
Personally I actually like making up sub-harness's for coils and injectors where it may be nesseary to swapout these components or for ease of access. Also, if there is a budget allowance for the extra connections and labour :-)
How do you fix the fuel slosh? The level is literally reading up and down every time the car moves. Hopefully you don't need to buy and wire in a separate module for this?
