      @@gloooby6157 I’d recommend all of the catalog of Renaissance, though the first few albums are a very different band though made up mostly of members of the old Yardbirds at that point. If you like the progressive style there’s loads of bands from the late 60’s to late 70’s (check out Yes, Genesis[anything before the album with the toy blocks on the cover], Emerson Lake and Palmer, etc.)
      Shameless self promotion but I have also personally released an album of Prog rock music recorded exclusively to analog tape without any use of digital recording methods called Candle Opera!
      Edit: Also! Those bands just scratch the surface of the genre as they are great entry points! Try some non-English music from that time like PFM(kind of an Italian ELP), Le Orme, NYL, and Aphrodites Child. Some more modern bands that have Prog elements would be Big Big Train, Wobbler, Squid, and for some Neo/80’s Prog revival type stuff try Marillion or Prog metal if you’re into heavier stuff. I could talk for hours and hours about bands and music, so I apologize if this is just a huge block of text you’re not going to read

    Knowing that The Beach Boys were a huge inspiration for this soundtrack is such an incredibly vindicating feeling. Also explains why this is one of my favorite game OSTs bcuz the Beach Boys are the GOATs

  • @TheFireSword87
    @TheFireSword87 4 місяці тому +35

    I feel like it's worth mentioning the Beach Boys song that's sampled, Deirdre, comes from their amazing album Sunflower that's 100% worth listening too. It's probably their best album outside of the behemoth that is Pet Sounds. And Sunflower really shows that as much of an amazing musician Brian is, the other Beach Boys were just as capable of writing amazing and beautiful songs, especially Forever, easily Dennis Wilson's best song.

    I am well aware of XTC and adore them (and am Queer, haha) but you really blew my mind by unveiling that Harry Partridge is Andy Partridge's son, which in hindsight, makes so much sense. Glad I'm not the only one who knows about the Rockband Oasis piece he did.
    Fantastic work and research on such eclectic pieces of music, your videos are so well researched and documented and fun and your musicscape player are a joy to watch, thank you.
    Now I'm going to indulge in going through Stackridge's back catalogue.

    A video on one of my favorite topics was posted to one of my favorite channels? Seeing this in my UA-cam feed was a dream come true!
    You have my gratitude and respect for endeavoring to create this video. All of those albums are sitting in a folder on my laptop, but I haven't gotten around to listening to a good chunk of them yet. ( _Consquences_ is my favorite of the bunch!) This video helped someone such of myself who doesn't come from a musical background better understand what Tanaka and Suzuki were talking about in that part of interview. I'm glad that my video was able to be of some use to you in making this. 🙂
    P.S.: I recommend listening to the Eagles' album _Hotel California_ , which was among the albums Itoi discussed with Tanaka when they first met. Tanaka pondered that the album's afterglow that lingers with you after listening to it, rather than any particular tracks, is at the foundation of his involvement with the series' soundtracks. (My source comes from the yet-untranslated majority of the very same interview.)

    After finishing the video, I just wanted to take time to say that this video was a transcendant experience that is going to stay with me for a very long time. Earthbound is a game that has always been really special to me and getting to learn all the musical influences behind it was a feeling that I can't quite describe but I feel that you captured really well in this video. Thank you so much for taking me on that journey and for all your work in what was clearly a behemoth of a project.

    It’s sometimes hard to remember but the 90s was all the hippie kids grown up and working in the industry so it makes total sense that this is the music that inspired the [Mother] series... it’s also like how nowadays devs are heavily inspired by the 90s (music and much more) but seriously thank you for making this video!

    37:39 went back and gave 8:30 another listen. "Scarlet Woman" basically starts with the Onett meteor drop. There's so much MOTHER applicability going on in Zawinul's performance on "A Remark You Made" and the band's performance on "Badia/Boogie Woogie Waltz Medley" that i couldn't cover it all in a UA-cam comment.

    Excellent video! I just wanna add that the melody in The Lost Underworld is also notably similar to the melody of Harry Nilsson’s “Daybreak”. It’s in a movie called “Son of Dracula” where I believe Nilsson and Ringo Starr play vampires.

      That soundtrack is really fun if you can get your hands on it. Released on a sub label of Apple (Rapple), the album features Daybreak, multiple other Nilsson songs from Schmilsson and Son of Schmilsson, plus score, and dialogue from the movie. I think it would be a fun one to put on at a Halloween party!
