Great reaction, thanks! Don't worry, you are good. This is a proper actual live performance. And it's pure 🔥🔥🔥 Heaviest song about playing hide and seek... Yes, "Catch me if you can" is about playing hide and seek or tag... BUT... with an "oni", a sort of Japanese mythological ogre. This was my very first BABYMETAL song, so it's very special to me. I'm glad you enjoyed it. And yes, this is definitely one of their heaviest songs instrumentally but it also has very cute vocals and choreo, including my personal favorite movement: the infamous "Moa slide". The song is still on their top 10 most performed live songs, despite not being played live since August 2017. So, from now on, I'm calling for it to return on Legend MM shows. And I will be there to see it in person. 😁 Until next time! 🤘🦊
Great reaction. Yes you got it right, this was all one live performance (well done, there are a couple of horrible compilations for this song).👍 Budokan 2014, early March, Su just 16, Yui and Moa still only 14. The Kami Band that night were Takayoshi Ohmura and Leda Cygnus on guitars, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums. 'Catch Me If You Can' is the best metal song about playing a game that's a sort of cross between tag, blind man's bluff and hide & seek I've ever heard. It is the perfect mix of the two extremes with the brutal instrumentals and the sweet vocals - and the game they are playing, they're playing with an Oni 👹(a sort of Japanese ogre popular in regional festivals and used specifically to frighten children ... which amuses me probably more than it should😁). The growling vocals (they are on a backing track, there are very few songs where we might know who does them) are the Oni👹 asking things like "Are you ready?" and the best response has to be "Maada da yo" (No, not yet) while doing a running away from an Oni dance.🏃♀🏃♀🏃♀👹
This was the song that got me. The first BM video I saw was Gimme Choco but I didn't get it at the time. This one though grabbed me by the neck mainly because of the choreography. After that I binge watched all their videos (they had only 2 albums back in 2017). Now I only listen to Babymetal exclusively in my car wherever I go. 😊 ❤❤❤ 🤘
This song was my first experience with BM, I remember being awestruck by what I had just seen and heard. It's been several years since they've played this live, but Moa recently said that now that they're once more a trio she wants to perform it again. I think that when they play the Legend MM show's next March we'll probably see that and a other BM classics return to the setlist. Hopefully The Fox God will see fit to make it happen 🦊🤘
I still recommend that you react to BABYMETAL's first two music videos "Doki Doki Morning" and "Iine!" then you'll see them when they were even younger than in this video! Keep rockin’ BABYMETAL!!! KITSUNE UP!!! 🤘🦊🤘
This performance they are 16 and 14 and 14. A few months before their 15th birthday. Babymetal had the record of this famous venue in Japan: youngest average age group ever to perform at Budokan, Tokyo, Japan. Youngest person (regardless of group) was actually Michael Jackson when he was part of the Jackson 5. First every performance of a band at Budokan was the Beatles.
_Maada da yo!_ 🦊🤘👠 Heavy metal: You know there's a Beast. Doom metal: You preach about the Beast. Black metal: You obey the Beast. Death metal: You ARE the Beast. Power metal: You fight the Beast. Viking metal: You fight the Beast for Odin. Thrash metal: You're going to fucking kill the Beast. Metalcore/Nu metal: You crab with the Beast.🦀 Glam metal: You're too drunk to care about the Beast. Kawaii metal: You play hide and seek with the Beast.👹🤘🔥
I told you bro. This performance is simply Amazing! You really need to see "iine" live. 3 different styles in 1 song. As always a great reaction. See you, Kitsune! 🤟🦊🇯🇵🔥🔥🔥
Great fun song it's an all seater venue, but the fans were doing little circle pits on spaces in between the seats at the back 🤣 wish they performed this again, even if just once . Preferably on tour, and I was at the show 😁🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼
this was the song that hooked me on the band's vibe. the two sounds always seemed at odds with each other, but the way this song makes the sounds battle each other in the hide and seek game really made it click and their whole discography just made more sense
My all time favorite of theirs. I didn't think they'd ever play it again after Yui left but in a recent interview Moa said she really like to perform it again so here's hoping it makes a comeback with Momo, would be awesome for LEGEND MM in March
I love the glee in your face throughout the video as you realise where it's going. Your reaction totally reflects mine and many other new fans feelings experiencing Catch Me if You Can, and frankly much everything else BM were doing at that time. ❤🦊🤘
Haha, an absolute banger! Only Babymetal can do such a heavy song in such an adorable manner about hide and seek. In fact, if you told me a few years ago that I will be repeatedly entertained by a couple of early/mid-teen Japanese girls sing about hide and seek to metal, I would have scoffed at the idea, but little did I know… 🤘🦊
@@TRMReacts62812 😂 Okay, I got a fun one for you, of course, whenever you get around to it. This may be worth a "double feature" since the first video is only ~2.5 min long. Song: Doki Doki Morning - Babymetal's very first song ever. Link 1: ua-cam.com/video/lN-RlqEHFIk/v-deo.htmlsi=jcLF8tGNhqrEbbIO A short segment of Babymetal recording, rehearsing, and then performing live for the first time ever as a group in 2010, with this song. At the time, "Babymetal" was still the "Heavy Music Club" of an all-girls, school-themed idol group called Sakura Gakuin, which Su, Moa, and Yui were all part of. Think of this group as a "trade school" of sorts, designed to teach kids how to be prepared for a future career in the entertainment industry. Members will graduate from the group at ~15, and they still attend normal school as well. Link 2: ua-cam.com/video/gLZmu_NV0KY/v-deo.htmlsi=TSD3JBty4hX1saoi Their 2021 live rendition, ~10.5 years later, when they're in their 20s. Babymetal took this song out of regular live rotation since 2017 as they "aged out" of it and has only performed it on special occasions, such as the 10 Babymetal Budokan show (this link), celebrating their 10 years as a band.
On one interview with Su, she talks about the intro to this song (I'm guessing from the studio version) scaring Yui, to the point where she asked them to stop playing it. Su said, "So that made us want to play it even more."
This was the MV that got me into babymetal! Already blown away by the Kami band intro, then the girls come out with the hai's! The girls are playing hide and seek with a demon troll, or Oni from Japanese mythology. That's why the demonic voice keeps asking if they are ready and girls respond no not yet.
This is a great song. It's about Oni which are Japanese mythological creatures. They are often translated as Demon or Ogre. Neither are exactly right. They are Oni. They are their own thing. But specifically it's about children's games involving Oni. It's ambiguous whether the Oni are real or it's just children playing. Maybe it's just children having fun or maybe it's children running and hiding from a monster that wants to eat them. ;)
Yes, but it is very well explored in this song. The "demonic" voice and a moment in the choreography where Yui and Moa use their index fingers to imitate horns on their heads suggest that it is a game of hide and seek with a demon (or monster)... Three girls playing with a demon... And there are people who say that "this isn't metal"...🤘🦊🤘
@vanderneimarx9275 there is an anime with basically the same story as the song 'The Promised Neverland' Season 1 was fantastic. It ends in a pretty good place there is no need to watch Season 2 it's bad.
In Japan, adults would dress up as Oni and visit houses to terrorize children into behaving (hence the growling Oni references to "crybabies" and "naughty kids"). Think of Halloween in reverse. I'm not sure that's still practiced as I've seen Oni leading parades as a way to ward off bad luck. Yes, it's a single performance from the 2014 Budokan shows. So was "Rondo of Nightmare" you reacted to. The performance of this song always makes me smile...and laugh like a madman when I imagine other bands playing hide-and-seek. Although, I think Ozzy could pull it off!
Kami Members here in order are: Takayoshi Ohmura Leda Cygnus BOH Hideki Aoyama. The solo intros by the East Kamis ended in (Fox Festivals 2017). Their last solo intro was for "Yava". Also, this song hasn't been performed since 2017. Later on the West Kamis (American members) started doing solos for songs "Kagaru" and recently for "Metali".. But they are so much weaker than the original East Kamis intros.
