I've played FIFA since 04 till 17, and I've always been so dismissive of PES without giving it a go. Recently, I played PES 2017 and the PES 18 Demo and they were both the best football games I've ever played. There were so many new things that I could do. Passing the ball by chesting it, controlling the ball with the thigh, turning my man inside out, dictating which player makes a run and where to. The passing feels heavier, slower and not as perfect, like an actual football. I tried so many forward passes which would've worked in FIFA but just got intercepted, or my player got pressured and lost out on strength to the defenders. Made me realise I have to work the ball around more before finding the gaps, like an actual football game. Unlike in FIFA where it just pings to your teammate so quickly, so perfectly and so well controlled that it's like pinball. The shooting also feels different, with every shot having a different feel to it. The first few games I played, I missed almost 60% of my shots. Unlike in FIFA where I know it will always be a goal or at least force a good save, if I kick it from this position at this angle, with my joystick pointed in this direction. It makes every goal feel the same. The only players in PES using Barcelona that I can pick up the ball with and run at the defender with ease is Messi and Neymar. Unlike in FIFA where almost every player feels capable of doing that. Not to mention the tactics and game plan before the game starts, which is so much more complex in PES with attacking instructions and defensive instructions that I could never do on FIFA. Having inverted wingers with fullback pushing up, and busquets dropping deep between the two CBs while in possession, and counter pressing immediately after losing possession. Whereas in FIFA, 99 pressure feels the same as 40 pressure. And even at 99 aggression, your AI teammates never tackle, just hovering around the opponent without ever challenging them. Whereas in PES, my AI teammates often tackle better than I do! I was so surprisingly delighted with my experience in playing PES. After getting so bored of playing FIFA for 13 years, with every game feeling the same, and winning every team on legendary using the same formation every game, I'm so glad I gave PES a go. Even though it's difficult to play at first because there are so much more commands, tactics and just things you can do on and off the ball, I enjoyed it. I never raged when the opponent score cus it was always my fault or bad plays. Whereas in FIFA I got so mad so often. I really hope that FIFA players would give PES a fair go before slamming it. Because honestly, I'm never going back to FIFA after trying PES. Sincerely, a former fan of FIFA of almost 15 years.

PES 2018 will be getting my money this year. FIFA consistently chooses "style" over "substance" and frankly, there haven't been enough improvements to the gameplay in recent years. Career Mode is dead.

Now FIFA is different, is faster than it should be, but tactically it's better than PES I think, but in general PES gameplay feels more realistic. At the same time I want to give PES a chance again I'm really addicted to Ultimate Team, Myclub is so far behind.
Just bought PES 18 and so far I don't regret my decision one bit. The gameplay is miles ahead of FIFA. I've played the 10 hour access of FIFA and it is the same game as 17, I almost feel like I'm playing the exact same game and not even the menu had changed in years. Seriously if you are considering buying PES...do it.

i play both fifa and pes but have been a FIFA fan boy for years now. So i thought about purchasing this game the other day because i was sick of fifa 17, and once i got started downloading the custom files for licence kits etc, i have to say pes gameplay has improved over the years... i'm not saying i will pick pes over fifa but i will be playing it a lot more from now on.
Here's my 2 pence worth. I used to be a PES player through and through. Until about 2009/10. FIFA simply got better, and was better than PES. However, FIFA 16,17 and from the demo, 18. Are rubbish! 16 was ok... So this year, after all that time. I went back to PES. Honestly, I'm still not sure... It plays good, but feels really "arcadey" ... Maybe I'm just learning from scratch again, and just aren't used to it. I dunno. I'm enjoying it, but there's so many things bugging me about it.... For one... Headers. I literally cannot header the ball. No matter what I do, how I time it, whatever. My player ALWAYS tries to volley it. It's pissing me off and have no idea what I'm doing wrong. If anything... I'm gonna persevere with PES this year because I've made that choice. Just hope I start enjoying it more than I have.

Well then the demo failed to do its job in enticing potential buyers. I usually alternate between the two so they feel like actual purchases every other year

pes 2018 isnt played by hands, but by brains. at first, i hated the way the applied com marking isnt a nearest man thing, but as times goes by, you will surely love it, its a kill joy for those who just mark with both buttons tho, but it really makes defending not a one way thing anymore. pes will make you feel like you had an orgasm if you win against a very good opponent. it makes you think like a mad man, makes you plan like you are about to fight a war. then licensing? lol, i play on xbox, you know there isnt a patch, but as soon as i learned the game, it gave me the inspiration to edit the teams myself. if you like fifa, please buy it, but if you like football, buy both, and play with friends, you will be amazed how pes really is. adios
I hate it when people complain about the licensing not being in PES. Just buy the cheapest USB stick and get a patch, boom no more man blue and you can add the bundesliga. Also PES having the champions league license is huge.
It would be nice if the same game reviewer reviewed Fifa and Pes to give us an accurate comparison. However if both games are released almost at the same time this becomes almost impossible
Been a pes fan for years but the sheer unwillingness of konami to fix details like online play, myclub, commentary, soundtrack and menus mean I have to give this a miss. Yes the gameplay and graphics are great but when you buy a game (at these prices) you want all aspects to be at a certain level. To sum up: FIFAs gameplay isn't bad enough to make pes the better option
Damn, good for PES! I always knew that their focus on tactics would help them beat FIFA. I think FIFA's focus on flashy dribbles and attacking ruined their product. I wonder if EA's team are actually football fans or played football when they were in high school or in college, because Konami seems to better capture how teams and players move, and accurately get the gameplay mechanics of passing speed, player acceleration and body turn. I always want to play a more deliberate game of FIFA where I build from the backline and find holes in the opponent's positions to create my scoring chances, but I feel like I'm just forced into sprinting and dribbling my way to the goal, and also crosses are such a pain and impossible to score.
I love pes and fifa, like them both id choose pes for gameplay but fifa for online matchmaking! Pes puts me off every year on how they never seem to make one the main things better!
oh one thing, standing tackle, its FIFA's first then PES tried to apply it. I used to be a PES fan, but Konami stay too long in his Comfort Zone. I will try these two and still decide to play FIFA instead of this masterpiece.
The only thing keeping me from getting PES is the lack of licensing once they can license more stadiums and team kits and logos I probably will make the switch from fifa
At first I thought that the UA-cam Resolution was playing at 480p and I tried to change it, then came to realization the video is playing at 1080p... explains a lot about the game right there... what a shame :-/

Does this game have loot boxes, P2W or otherwise? My internet searches are doing EVERYTHING they can to prevent me from finding out, to the point that if I find a website that seems to talk about the MTX in PES 2018, the page won't load. I found four that said it discussed the MTX, and all of them refused to finish loading, never even getting an error message.
I wish it still had the mode where matches were played out by itself and you we're cheering for your team to make goals. Now it's just another fifa game. (Last time I played pes was like 10 years ago)
Got to give it to PES, they make an effort with every players face, not like FIFA. Players who have been starting for clubs like Madrid and Atletico should have their faces in the game...

Basically PES is for the more hardcore football fans, who enjoy a pass breaking the opponents lines just as much as a long shot goal.
Is it me or the goalkeeper just get incredibly better compared to previous previous game
only ever played PES/ISS or Winning 11 here since SNES,PS1,PS2 etc LOL. PES is a much deeper game. Japanese programming. Deep.

I wonder if EA's team are actually football fans or played football when they were in high school or in college, because Konami seems to better capture how teams and players move, and accurately get the gameplay mechanics of passing speed, player acceleration and body turn.
I always want to play a more deliberate game of FIFA where I build from the backline and find holes in the opponent's positions to create my scoring chances, but I feel like I'm just forced into sprinting and dribbling my way to the goal, and also crosses are such a pain and impossible to score.
Just played the PC demo and my god it's more impressive than FIFA, both gameplay wise and graphically.

I love pes and fifa, like them both id choose pes for gameplay but fifa for online matchmaking! Pes puts me off every year on how they never seem to make one the main things better!

oh one thing, standing tackle, its FIFA's first then PES tried to apply it. I used to be a PES fan, but Konami stay too long in his Comfort Zone. I will try these two and still decide to play FIFA instead of this masterpiece.

The game 'flickers' on my tv. Like it zooms in and out off focus or changes resolution. Does anyone else have this problem?
At first I thought that the UA-cam Resolution was playing at 480p and I tried to change it, then came to realization the video is playing at 1080p... explains a lot about the game right there... what a shame :-/

I played the demo and I loved it. Im picking uo FIFA 18 tomorrow, and I might end up picking this one up as well.

I'm trying to decide whether to buy this or Fifa 18. What does everyone mean when they say PES doesn't have all the licencing?
Does this game have loot boxes, P2W or otherwise? My internet searches are doing EVERYTHING they can to prevent me from finding out, to the point that if I find a website that seems to talk about the MTX in PES 2018, the page won't load. I found four that said it discussed the MTX, and all of them refused to finish loading, never even getting an error message.

I wish it still had the mode where matches were played out by itself and you we're cheering for your team to make goals. Now it's just another fifa game. (Last time I played pes was like 10 years ago)
Got to give it to PES, they make an effort with every players face, not like FIFA. Players who have been starting for clubs like Madrid and Atletico should have their faces in the game...
